Tasty and authentic Japanese Comfort Food - Edit
I have patronized Obon for a number of years, well before they moved to their current brick and mortar location. That means I followed them around to various pop-up locations as well as special events where they offered their food to the public, even when I had to drive quite a few miles to get there, because I thought it was worth it. As someone who lived in Tokyo while working at the American Embassy for 4 years and who has traveled the length and breadth of the country from Sapporo in Hokkaido to Naha in Okinawa, I'm pretty familiar with Japanese cuisine. Obon Shokudo provides "inaka-poi" dishes, country food that would be familiar to any one in Japan. I recommend virtually every item on their menu but I'm especially fond of the kabocha croquette and the Japanese style curry. The menu is completely vegan so you never need to worry about fish sauce or fish broth in any of the dishes. For authentic Japanese food with very pleasant hosts, Obon Shokudo cannot be beat.
