Really good !!! - Edit
We shared the combo plate and the tempura udon. Both were really good, great presentation, and unique flavours (buddhas hand onigiri!?) The strawberry red bean daifuku was insanely good!

Fantastic All Around - Edit
This place was delicious. I came back multiple times throughout my time in Portland. I was happy to find something close to the convention center that had such good food. It was much better than the vegan options offered for my conference, haha. That staff was really helpful and made some great recommendations. Make sure to try the desserts too!

Okonomiki in America! - Edit
My husband was thrilled they serve okonomiki. He grew up eating these in Japan, but they're never on menus in America. It was authentic and delicious. I had the combo which allowed me to sample seven different menu items, all delicious. We will definitely return next time we're in Portland. (Maybe I'll remember to take photos then!)

Awesome Vegan Japanese food - Edit
Second time eating in the restaurant and I've also had their food when they catered / vended at Pickathon. Outstanding! I had The Combo, which consists of two onigiri, one giant tot, one curried korokke and kakiage w/ sesame + a small salad. Ordered some chili crisp and it came with a few sauces for the various items. A wonderful melange of flavors and textures. Delicious. Enjoyed combining the flavors as well. Also tried a few bites of pickled veggie side dish and that was also sublime. Great spot!

We needed a light lunch on our vegan food-filled weekend in Portland. This place was perfect. My miso stew was wonderfully flavorful and full of tofu and other goodness.

Chill and delicious - Edit
Loved this place, the vibe, the staff. Came back to try more. They use many fun misos (pistachio, pumpkin… I suspect they make miso in-house). Favorites were the desserts, especially the cheesecake and the panna cota.

Good but greasy! - Edit
Kenchinjiru (ginger miso soup) was tasty, a bit oily. The giant tater tots and kakiage were delicious, though very greasy.

Excellent Onigiri - Edit
Got the Buddha's Hand with Hominy Miso Onigiri and the Udon Salad. The flavors of the salad were super tasty, very savory and flavorful. The crunch and textures of the salad were SO good, really recommend it!
Read moreThe onigiri is really good and I've gotten the Buddha's Hand one multiple times previously. The citrusy flavors keep drawing me back. There's so many other flavors to try but I get this one every time.
I've previously gotten The Combo (under Bento and Curry) and that was very tasty as well.
Also the restaurant gives away free yuzu sprouts occasionally! Very cute if you like plants.

Can’t wait to try more - Edit
We’ve heard good things about this place but needed to get back to Seattle, so we picked up some onigiri to have on the train. It was an excellent choice! The pickled plum was our favorite and I highly recommend. If you like spice, the Thai chili has the best kick. The Aleppo pepper one has a little spice and a whole lot of flavor. Our least favorites that we tried were the garlic and carrot-ginger. They weren’t bad but they just don’t stand out as much as the others. We can’t wait to come back to Portland and try more of their menu here.
Read moreEdit: We came back (twice) to try more things! The Okayu congee (with tofu misosuke) was handsdown my favorite. My partner loved the tempura udon. The broth is so flavorful! And their chili crisp has much more depth than what you find at the grocery store. The Okonomiyaki seems really popular, and it was fine, but not our favorite. (It reminded me a hashbrown.) Ilove how unique and creative their menu is, and this will definitely be a staple for us on return trips to PDX.

Good Japanese - Edit
Tried the tofu katsu sandwich with side potato salad. Potato salad was excellent. The sandwich was a little under seasoned and would have been great with a Japanese mayo and a sprinkle of sea salt. The kale and seaweed salad on the burger was lemony and light. The bun I think was made out brown rice .

We so enjoy this sweet place--it's exceptional on all the levels. First, the food is just so delicious and well-crafted. And then there is the service and the vibe: it elevates every visit from the sweet lust of the mouth/belly to the warmth of heart bliss. Choose anything that calls you from the menu--you can't go wrong! We'll be back as soon as we find Portland under our feet again!
