one of a kind experience! - Edit
I went there with high expectations as a local vegan recommended us the place and was not disappointed! Every meal sounded very unique and delicious but we wanted to try all the traditional portuguese dishes so we had the starters plate of petiscos (portuguese "tapas"), the francesinha and matiné das 5 for dessert. Everything was lovely but the starters plate amazed me especially as I really liked their creative ways to create natural vegan substitutes for fish, octupus etc. I loved all of it and was full and very satisfied by the end! I would go on a longer vacation to Lisbon just so I could try my way through the entire menu. It's the kind of place that inspires you to be more creative and brave with your own cooking at home, it shows you the greatness that is possible with vegan cooking.
Read moreAlso: we had booked a table for 7pm right when their evening break ends and nontheless we were served really quickly, there were no long waiting times and when we had to leave to get the tram we were also able to pay quickly and the staff was super kind the entire time. It was a really pleasant experience and I would recommend it to every person who wants to be able to taste portuguese cuisine while staying vegan!
I also think for the quality and uniqueness you get, it really is worth the price, we were actually surprised about how much we paid as we had been told how it's often booked out and expected a place that is more pricey. The person I went with who isn't vegan, said if all vegan food tasted as good as there then you wouldn't miss anything.

Poor service, attitude - Edit
We were looking forward to going here. Appetizer board was amazing and it went down hill from there. Go for drinks and that. Charging 15 euro an entree the tofu dish that was supposed to be like bacaloa tasted like cow and not beef. My husband who is Portuguese tried but barely ate it. One server for 15 tables but one hostess and another who barely bothered to do a thing. At 15 euros an entree they can hire more people. Zero consideration for people who have things to see or are on a working vacation. I'm not uptight if the restaurant bothers to have servers. The small water bottles also a sign that this place is it for the cash not because they love what they do. We sat there for 15-20 minutes after finished our meal unoticed. Got up to pay before desert and hostess attitude was we as appreciate feedback as I'm paying 75 euros adding the inedible dish was her favorite. Happy cow needs a one star bc this place is taking advantage of vegan tourists in Lisbon.

Fantastic meal, super-friendly and helpful staff. We loved the Starters Board the most - every single thing on it was amazing, so many delicious flavours and textures.
Read moreThe mains were also great - the seitan steak was huge and incredibly meaty, and the “islander” was delicious too.
For dessert: vegan crème brûlée. Only place I’ve ever seen do this anywhere in the world. And it didn’t disappoint!
We were so full we could hardly walk at the end😄

Try the Cuttlefish - Edit
Vegans unite, we cannot tell the omnivores about this place! It is small and we don't want the meat eaters to over crowd it.

We took a vegan food tour in Lisbon and AO 26 was one of the stops. The food options are all vegan and spectacular. They do an awesome job of incorporating the various tastes of many regions in Portugal and making them available to the vegan lifestyle.
TRY THE CUTTLEFISH!
Make sure to save room for the crème brûlée! It is wonderful! We also enjoyed the Francesinha. It is served with potato chips that you dip in the tomato sauce, so good!
TRY THE CUTTLEFISH!
All I can say is that we have tried numerous things and they were all quite good! The staff is super helpful if you want help deciding. And also in letting you know how the locals enjoy the dish. Bruna was our waitress numerous times and she is lovely. 💕

Excellent Local Cuisine - Edit
Excellent food whether or not you are vegan. I had the soup, which was creamy and flavorful and the bife de seitan, which was moist and had excellent texture. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I wish I had more time to return to explore more of the menu, they are that good. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area.

Best vegan in.. Europe? - Edit
Wow - rhe place to visit if you're vegan in Lisbon. Need reservation as it's a small place and won't be able to find a table otherwise. Truly fine dining with amazing recreations of famous traditional dishes. Definitely have to try the cheeses and the cheviche and the octopus. Lots of clearly marked GF options.

“Food was okay but great staff!” - Edit
Great to find a restaurant with so many vegan options!
Read moreI had the bife de seitan wich was ok. I did not like the sweetpotatoe cake simply due to personal preference, but my friend did! However I would recommend the Proibido burger made with black rice. The bread was perfectly cruchy and still soft.
We had chips for a starter (my mistake for thinking they were fries), this was alright but lacked salt.
Dessert was pretty good, I enjoyed the coffee dessert even though I don't like coffee. The chocolate and peanutspie was a little too heavy on the peanutbutter for my taste. If you want a delicious dessert I would recommend that you go down to Kong after dinner.
Pros: Good location, Many vegan options, Nice staff

Estava ansiosa por vir a este restaurante! E hoje foi o dia! Pedi de entrada o choco frito estava divinal parecia mesmo choco.
Read morePara prato principal pedi bife de seitan e o meu namorado o tofu à lagareiro! Estava tudo maravilhoso, sabor umami tudo ótimo temperado!

a must if you want to try traditional Portugese cuisine - Edit
Ate here twice in three days. Food was incredible, portions were great, vibe was very nice (open kitchen, all tables full for dinner) and even things like burgers or fries were done in a way that made them feel new and exciting for me. of note: this place is a must if you want to try traditional Portugese cuisine. also worth noting a reservation might be necessary if eating at night. arrived at 9 and had to wait 30 minutes which was great because for me its nice to have a packed house vibe in a restaurant.
