Full on a Monday night we got the last seats at the bar so we could see the chefs. the burgers we tried were awesome! My omni boss said he couldn't tell it wasn't beef and will now eat more vegan food. Please please please come to Edinburgh we are thousands of vegans who would love your food and cool vibes :)

Fantastic Place, But You May Have To Wait - Edit
I love the Vegan Junk Food Bar! The decor is awesome, the music is fun, the food is filling and fantastic! However, Amsterdam is a busy city and the premesis is quite small.
Read moreFirst time I visited, we had to wait an 45 minutes for a table, but it had recently opened to great fanfare so it was expected.
Over a year later, I went again recently and we had to wait 1 hour 30 minutes! This was on a Thursday! The staff member was quite blasé about this, I assume it's a regular situation for them, but we weren't happy. They took my number and said they'd call when a spot became available. We turned up 90 mins later, no phone call, and then we were seated.
Luckily it is worth the wait, the entire culinary experience from beginning to end is interesting as well as delicious. Still, they walk a fine line and I'd think twice about going if such waiting times continue.
Pros: Unique decor, Hearty, filling food, Vegan alternatives to Dutch junk food classics
Cons: Quite expensive, Ridiculous waiting times

I was really looking forward to coming here and we’d been on a lunchtime flight with no vegan options so I was hungry. I ordered the loaded fries (kapsalon) which I thought was ok but I did get sick of them towards the end and I did think that the topping of red, spring and fried onions were over the top. It took ages to get to the chips. I had a chocolate cake with a baileys infusion. I thought it might have been bigger after the massive cakes I’d been eating in Lisbon but this cake seemed small. It also could be because we’d opted to sit at the bar rather than wait 45 minutes for a table that I felt a bit uncomfortable. Anyway, I would like to try it again (but I won’t have time) but I wouldn’t have the loaded fries.

I didn’t know it could be possible to cook junk and vegan food. And it is surprisingly awesome ! We had a huge plate of French fries with guacamole and toppings. Then, we ate Mexican and bitter balls. Great place ! We loved it.

Mijn eerste vegan ervaring buiten de deur toen we vegan waren geworden. En nog steeds heb ik het idee dat ik voor de gek word gehouden. Hun burgers, kaas en nu sinds kort hun sashimi van "tonijn" en "zalm" zijn zo goed, zo lekker, dat ik soms het idee heb toch stiekem non vegan te eten.

My first vegan experience outside the door when we became vegan. And still I have the idea that I am being fooled. Their burgers, cheese and now their sashimi of "tuna" and "salmon" are so good, so delicious, that sometimes I have the idea to secretly eat non-vegan food.

We waited 2 hours to get in to this place. On a Thursday. After 2 hours we went to the waiter and asked how long until we could get in. Apparently he had tried to call us like 10 tables earlier. But he called the wrong number and when we pointed that out (he had the right number written down), there was no excuse from him. I think that's what he at least could've done.

If junk food is your vice, you are in for a treat. Amazing selection, and this branch has a quite good range of gf options too - although no burger. Hope that this will change, but even with current menu we would happily visit again. Service was good and the inside and outside space had a good feel about it.

We had the bitterball, hot dog croissant and chicken tortilla. Both entrees had similar tastes, because they very generously use a mix of onions in just about everything, so beware if you’re not into a ton of onions. Very casual place, nice servers, seating indoors or out.

Of all the places I visited in Amsterdam, this one was perhaps the biggest let-down. They have a large menu, full of dishes that sound exciting. I ordered one for dinner and another for breakfast, but both turned out to be mediocre. The service was exceedingly slow throughout, and the prices were decidedly high for junk food.

My husband and I split the Daddy McChikn, and it was probably the best vegan burger I've ever had. We also split the Loaded Fries (Kapsalon) and I got to taste our friend's Loaded Fries (Fishy) and I thought they were good but not great. I'm not huge on fries, but the pictures looked so good we got them. If I went back, I would just have a burger all to myself!
