Best vegan restaurant in London - Edit
We have visited several times when in London. It's great to eat in a fully vegan restaurant knowing the profits all go to helping the animals at Surge Animal Sanctuary. Their tofish with chips, mushy peas, and tartare sauce is absolutely brilliant. Their burgers, sides, small plates, and desserts are all delicious, too. We have also tried a few of their wonderfully named cocktails. Portion sizes are generous, and we are always stuffed by the time we leave. The service is friendly, the food arrives quickly and isn't expensive. It's a must for any vegan visiting London.

So pleased we finally made it to unity diner. Food was incredible. Tofish and chips was off the scale. Calamari rings also lovely. Mushroom skewers very nice too.

Disappointing - Edit
We were really excited to try here but disappointed with the food. Was nothing special. Will perhaps try the carvery but the main menu isn’t worth the price.

Great place. Do not try the 3d steak - Edit
I recently read the book of Ed Winters and loved it. So probably my expectation to eat here were a bit too high. Great place, service, taste, ambiance. But do NOT try the 3d steak since quite disappointing.

I'm sorry, but... 🤨🤷🏼♂️😬 - Edit
I obviously don't like giving poor reviews to purely vegan establishments, ESPECIALLY ones that fund an animal sanctuary, but since this place is now shut down, I feel like I owe an honest review to those who ran this place.. in case it re-opens someday?
Read moreIt might be a British thing (sorry, this is consistent with most restaurants I go to in England), but I found the food to be incredibly underwhelming and bland. Prices were on the steep side. I was the only patron when I went in a bit later in the afternoon. (14:30). The staff were all sitting at a table, chatting amongst themselves. (I mean, what else is there to do when I'm the only patron?). It wasn't particularly clean in there.. my table was sticky; the bathroom I used to wash my hands was dirty..
I visited in January of 2024, and I'm afraid at that time, everything about the place oozed an overwhelming feeling of a doomed business.
When the waitress recommends a side of potatoes as her favourite option, you know that the other menu items won't exactly be amazing. And they weren't.
The Heura burger was definitely lacking flavour and its brioche bun was dense and dry. The gnocchi was dry and bland, the Mac 'n Cheeze (forgive my naming - I don't have an accurate menu to look at) was mushy and flavourless and the breadcrumbs on top were dry and bland like sawdust. The dip included with the Southern Fried Drumsticks tasted like whipped up oil. 😅
I really wanted to love this place, because vegans from around the world literally raved about it, and I truly do respect Earthling Ed - he's an absolute legend who has done more for animals than most of us (by far) - and the Surge Sanctuary is more than a worthy cause, but as far as vegan restaurants go, Unity Diner just didn't do it for me. Perhaps I've been to too many *good* vegan restaurants and have unrealistic standards. Perhaps other countries use more salt to enhance flavour, and/or perhaps my palate just isn't compatible with British fare?
If Unity Diner does re-open in the future, I'm game to trying it again, because I may have just ordered the wrong things off the menu. ☺️

Last call! - Edit
The venue was busy and a little loud, but I hadn't tried this diner yet and didn't want to miss it. My partner had their star dish, tofish and chips, and I chose the lobster roll. The roll was really good but it's true that their fried fish is the best–very much like fish in both taste and texture. Dessert was less convincing as the tiramisu tasted like custard instead of creamy mascarpone. Too bad the place is closing down; I would give it another try!

Really sorry but not good - Edit
I admit I’m a tough customer, but was disappointed to find most of the menu was off limits when I told them I’m intolerant to mushrooms. I ended up having the steak with a special sauce and honestly it was just bad. The sauce was pure oil, the steak seemed to be juicy marbles as opposed to the redefined advertised, and the veg portions were very small. And all for £27.50 including service charge. I think that’s the most expensive single main I’ve ever eaten and not even close to one of the best.
Read moreI love their ethics and want to support the sanctuary but the meal and its price really weren’t good.

Great intro for non vegans - Edit
The vibe was good, staff friendly. Great menu for introducing some fav dishes to people. Not really my taste though. The tiramisu was just a glass of cream. The steak was amazing. The cocktails whilst brilliantly named, were not very nice to drink. Sure if you like fish it is a good place to go.

We made a reservation in advance to make sure it would be possible to visit this restaurant. It was a must for us, and we planned to include this in our trip, specially after reading the amazing reviews, and also it was very meaningful for us.
