Best vegan restaurant in London - Edit
We have visited several times when in London. It's great to eat in a fully vegan restaurant knowing the profits all go to helping the animals at Surge Animal Sanctuary. Their tofish with chips, mushy peas, and tartare sauce is absolutely brilliant. Their burgers, sides, small plates, and desserts are all delicious, too. We have also tried a few of their wonderfully named cocktails. Portion sizes are generous, and we are always stuffed by the time we leave. The service is friendly, the food arrives quickly and isn't expensive. It's a must for any vegan visiting London.

Love this place - Edit
Delicious food, friendly staff, cool background music that isn't too loud to disturb, but loud enough to add to atmosphere. For me, that's enough for a good review, but there's more to what makes Unity my new fave London vegan. It's a non profit that puts the money into running a sanctuary in Nottinghamshire. It's licensed and has a range of cock/mocktails. I didn't try these though. The coffee is good too. And being just off Brick Lane puts it in a zone worth visiting.

Good food - Edit
One of the must visits in London (or so I’ve heard) but I think I got my hopes up a little too much. The menu consisted mostly of fast food (mains: burgers or hotdogs) and nothing appealed very much to me. I ordered the loaded fries which was a nice snack and did exceed my expectations. Vegan fish was okay, not mind blowing. Mocktails on the other hand are definitely amazing. Overall good food, but I’m not sure it lives up to its reputation.

Wow. If you want great food look no further than Unity Diner. Honestly had the best meal I’ve had in a long time here! Their tofish and chips was lifechanging, better than anything I’ve ever had. That is not an exaggeration. Way better than any non-vegan fish and chips I’ve ever had prior to going vegan. You’re missing out until you try it. The caesar salad, the same, incredible! The chocolate tart was so so good, couldn’t stop ordering them. The service was exceptional. Fully vegan menu. Non-profit too. Not to mention, cofounded by the one and only Earthling Ed.

Emblématique tofish and chips 😲 - Edit
Pros: La revisite du (to)fish and chips, Une carte composée de classiques, L'ambiance diner
Cons: Les frites ne sont pas extraordinaires

?2018 visit - All the staff were nice, the food was well presented and yummy, the deco was beautiful. The portions were a bit smaller than I'd hoped and I thought perhaps the brunch menu was alongside the regular menu however they were the only options which was a bit disappointing.
Read moreUpdate for 2025 - We went specifically for the new sunday roast which was AMAZING! It was serve yourself so you could make portions as big as you wanted, and pick and choose from the sides options. Some were sooooo yummy (potatoes and brussel sprouts im looking at you) while some of the bigger veggies maybe could have cooked a big longer e.g. the caulflower cheese. But we would 100% come back just for this!

Excellent food - Edit
We wanted to try the fish & chips, but on Sundays the restaurant only serves “carvary” buffet style. We returned on a Tuesday, but were told that they were out of fish. Asked for a burger, only to be told they were out of those as well. Settled on a Caesar salad, which was excellent. Service was good as well.

Underwhelmed - Edit
As I sat down to eat at Unity Diner on Sunday, my heart sank - the menu wasn’t what I expected. They serve a Sunday Carvery on that day, not their usual menu. As a long-time fan of Ed Winters, I had visited Unity Diner when it was still in Hoxton years ago and absolutely loved it. I was genuinely sad when it closed, and thrilled to hear it was reopening, just in time for a trip I had planned to the UK.
Read moreThis was meant to be the final, perfect meal of my trip - the climax after some fantastic days. Needless to say, my expectations were very high, and I’m sure that played a part in how I felt.
But being honest: I left disappointed. The food was good, but it wasn’t the Unity Diner I had been dreaming about revisiting. On top of that, I didn’t feel particularly welcomed by the waiter - maybe because it was the last seating of the day, maybe something else, I really don’t know - but it just added to the feeling that the experience was falling short.
I also think the communication around the Sunday Carvery menu could be much clearer. I saw a mention of it, but honestly thought it was an option, not the only option available. When I booked in advance, there was no warning about this, and it’s certainly not obvious when browsing the website. It’s something that should really be made much clearer to avoid future disappointment.
As I sit here writing this, a Steve Jobs quote comes to mind: “I had been rejected, but I was still in love.” That’s exactly how I feel. I’m giving it three stars out of respect for what Unity Diner stands for and what it has meant to me. If I had to match my true feeling when I walked out, it would have been closer to a -1. But despite this, I’ll remain a fan and I truly hope for a better experience next time.
Pros: Sanctuary Donation
Cons: Sunday menu, Service

Disappointed on my third visit - Edit
I’ve been here three times and honestly it has gone downhill. I know they had some issues earlier this year as they almost closed but the quality of the food is now extremely awful. The tiramisu was barely edible and yet costs £9. The ceaser salad with “chicken” pieces barely had any pieces and lacked dressing. Given there are other options for vegans in this area, I definitely won’t come back again.

Underwhelmed - Edit
Was excited to try based on the reviews, but was a bit underwhelmed by the food. The lobster Mac & cheese was very coconut-y and sweet, and the Caesar salad for £14 was really small (but tasty). The surf & turf dog was good. Love that the proceeds go to a good cause!

I’d missed visiting here the first time round so it was good to be able to visit on their reopening.
Read moreWe’d already eaten across the road at Dauns so just had a dessert and drink in UD, we intend to visit again for a meal.
We both had the tiramisu, it was very rich so the small portion was very welcome.
B had half a Posh Lager and I had a cocktail, Piers Morgan’s Tears lol. It was served in two glasses and I was disappointed the server didn’t know why, or what the purpose was for it being served that way. She didn’t offer to find out either😒So, I just poured one into the other!

Best vegan food in London - Edit
Earthling Ed was the reason I went vegan, so I dreamt of coming to his restaurant for a long time. I was blown away by the quality and creativity of the food here. The “fish” in the Tofish and Chips is so convincing, it even has a layer of “skin”. The 3D steak is simply indistinguishable from real steak. If you find yourself in London, please do not pass up a meal here. I wish I could eat here all the time.
