So much more than words can transmit

One of the ultimate stand out vegan places I’ve ever been to in my life. The three of us had their famous £22 Sunday Roast extravaganza each selecting a different meat (roast chicken, lamb and turkey). You are also provided with a Yorkshire Pudding then it’s self-service vegetables and all the usual trimmings such as sauces, stuffing and lashings of gravy. I had a bit of everything, piled my plate high then proceeded to devour the whole feast with a pint of their delicious Posh Lager overlooking Petticoat Lane Market. Not a bad way to spend an early Sunday afternoon before hitting The Oval for some T20 cricket action.

Pros: Amazing food , Wonderful staff , Ethical interior

Excellent Diner

Great Diner and Staff manager Paco. Variety of foods, many meat like. Huge variety of drinks and mocktails.
Advice, recheck your order with staff, few mistakes noted

Pros: Surf and Turf, Gin Mocktail, Great vibe

Cons: Recheck your order , Chairs not very comfy

Cool place, nice food

Great food, I had the burger and my wife had the hotdog. We also had chips that were lovely.
I also had sticky toffee pudding that was awesome.
Staff were lovely and the price reasonable.

Vegan fast food

If you are looking for plant based fast food replacements, this is a great place for you. Too much fried stuff and too little greens for my taste. Also quite one-dimensional in flavour. Lots of oil, salt and pepper.

Great vibe, chips and lemonade

We had some tofu fish bites, popcorn chicken and fries. 7/10 fish bites and popcorn chicken and fries and lemonade drinks were 9/10.

Will go back and try the Sunday roast.

Pros: Chips, Lemonade, Friendly staff

All in all very good

The food was good, we had the vish and chips and a Caesar salad. The chips were crunchy from the outside and soft from the inside 👌 really good. The vish was also good in my opinion, my companion felt it was a bit too much sea taste (I guess it depends on personal preference). Usually I don’t like Caesar Salad, bc I prefer a more fresh and less fatty dressing, but this one was really nice, of course still a bit fatty, but the fresh kale 🥬 somehow balanced it out for me. The “Helles” beer 🍺 was not how it taste in Germany, but I still liked it a lot 👍👍 The staff was also super nice 😊 we felt comfortable being there.

Pros: Caesar salat, Fries and Vish, Helles 🍺

Cons: Toilets could be cleaner, but wasn’t a mess either

Meh

Updated from 3 to 2 stars after having severe stomachache couple of hours after eating there and also comparing it to all other places we went, this one's just waaaay to expensive.

Nice staff, pretty big portions but way too expensive and nothing special.

Had the popcorn chicken and fish & chips

Popcorn chicken was rather bland and not worth the money.

Fish and chips were good but again too expensive for what it is.

Top notch Sunday roast

Just wonderful to have a vegan carvery and to not have to worry about what you can choose. Ate here with my omni family and all loved it. Just a shame I didn’t have room for dessert! 🌱💚

Pros: Fully vegan carvery , Choices, Friendly and pleasant atmosphere

A lovely treat

I have wanted to visit here for ages and happened to be working close by.
I’m a tricky vegan as I’m gluten free as well.
I was not disappointed, I had a very tasty Surge burger on a GF bun and fantastic cheesy chips.
The staff are so friendly and couldn’t do enough for you.
I would definitely visit again.

Pros: The food was ace

Love this place

Delicious food, friendly staff, cool background music that isn't too loud to disturb, but loud enough to add to atmosphere. For me, that's enough for a good review, but there's more to what makes Unity my new fave London vegan. It's a non profit that puts the money into running a sanctuary in Nottinghamshire. It's licensed and has a range of cock/mocktails. I didn't try these though. The coffee is good too. And being just off Brick Lane puts it in a zone worth visiting.

Pros: Food, Staff, Ambiance

Good food

One of the must visits in London (or so I’ve heard) but I think I got my hopes up a little too much. The menu consisted mostly of fast food (mains: burgers or hotdogs) and nothing appealed very much to me. I ordered the loaded fries which was a nice snack and did exceed my expectations. Vegan fish was okay, not mind blowing. Mocktails on the other hand are definitely amazing. Overall good food, but I’m not sure it lives up to its reputation.

Pros: Good food, Great mocktails

Cons: Very average menu

Lifechanging

Wow. If you want great food look no further than Unity Diner. Honestly had the best meal I’ve had in a long time here! Their tofish and chips was lifechanging, better than anything I’ve ever had. That is not an exaggeration. Way better than any non-vegan fish and chips I’ve ever had prior to going vegan. You’re missing out until you try it. The caesar salad, the same, incredible! The chocolate tart was so so good, couldn’t stop ordering them. The service was exceptional. Fully vegan menu. Non-profit too. Not to mention, cofounded by the one and only Earthling Ed.

Pros: The food is incredible , The service is outstanding, Non-profit

Emblématique tofish and chips 😲

Pros: La revisite du (to)fish and chips, Une carte composée de classiques, L'ambiance diner

Cons: Les frites ne sont pas extraordinaires

?2018 visit - All the staff were nice, the food was well presented and yummy, the deco was beautiful. The portions were a bit smaller than I'd hoped and I thought perhaps the brunch menu was alongside the regular menu however they were the only options which was a bit disappointing.

Update for 2025 - We went specifically for the new sunday roast which was AMAZING! It was serve yourself so you could make portions as big as you wanted, and pick and choose from the sides options. Some were sooooo yummy (potatoes and brussel sprouts im looking at you) while some of the bigger veggies maybe could have cooked a big longer e.g. the caulflower cheese. But we would 100% come back just for this!

Excellent food

We wanted to try the fish & chips, but on Sundays the restaurant only serves “carvary” buffet style. We returned on a Tuesday, but were told that they were out of fish. Asked for a burger, only to be told they were out of those as well. Settled on a Caesar salad, which was excellent. Service was good as well.

Underwhelmed

As I sat down to eat at Unity Diner on Sunday, my heart sank - the menu wasn’t what I expected. They serve a Sunday Carvery on that day, not their usual menu. As a long-time fan of Ed Winters, I had visited Unity Diner when it was still in Hoxton years ago and absolutely loved it. I was genuinely sad when it closed, and thrilled to hear it was reopening, just in time for a trip I had planned to the UK.

This was meant to be the final, perfect meal of my trip - the climax after some fantastic days. Needless to say, my expectations were very high, and I’m sure that played a part in how I felt.

But being honest: I left disappointed. The food was good, but it wasn’t the Unity Diner I had been dreaming about revisiting. On top of that, I didn’t feel particularly welcomed by the waiter - maybe because it was the last seating of the day, maybe something else, I really don’t know - but it just added to the feeling that the experience was falling short.

I also think the communication around the Sunday Carvery menu could be much clearer. I saw a mention of it, but honestly thought it was an option, not the only option available. When I booked in advance, there was no warning about this, and it’s certainly not obvious when browsing the website. It’s something that should really be made much clearer to avoid future disappointment.

As I sit here writing this, a Steve Jobs quote comes to mind: “I had been rejected, but I was still in love.” That’s exactly how I feel. I’m giving it three stars out of respect for what Unity Diner stands for and what it has meant to me. If I had to match my true feeling when I walked out, it would have been closer to a -1. But despite this, I’ll remain a fan and I truly hope for a better experience next time.

Pros: Sanctuary Donation

Cons: Sunday menu, Service

In the heart of ethical veganism

Consistency.
It’s not rocket science.
All profits from the diner go towards creating advertising platforms for pro-vegan messages around the UK.

“Eat, Drink, and Make a Difference”

I had never been known to refuse good food. I love the thought that I made a lot of difference, since for the time being I’ve tried more than half of their menu.

I feel like I freed two birds with one stone at each of my visits.

Will I return?
Absolutely!

Pros: Tasty, delicious starters, dishes, sides, desserts, Vegan Vibes, Service

Disappointed on my third visit

I’ve been here three times and honestly it has gone downhill. I know they had some issues earlier this year as they almost closed but the quality of the food is now extremely awful. The tiramisu was barely edible and yet costs £9. The ceaser salad with “chicken” pieces barely had any pieces and lacked dressing. Given there are other options for vegans in this area, I definitely won’t come back again.

Cons: Tiramisu was gross, Salad lacked flavor
