I have been to SOIL twice now, once for lunch and once for dinner. Both times, it has been quite crowded, and they've turned people away, so it's best to make a reservation.
Read moreWhile the food has been decent, I find the flavors to be on the mild side, and which could use some acidity or some brightness. Some of their dishes are quite heavy on meat-subsitutes, while others don't have much protein, so I think they could be better balanced. Both times they have been out of something from the menu, so don't get too attached to a dish if you look at the menu before coming.
The service can be quite slow as there aren't many people working there, but otherwise, a good spot to get a good bite.

The dishes can be hit or miss, but that is solely based on one time I‘ve had a barbecue sauce taste like bubble gum. Every other visit was great, albeit not exceptional. Their meat alternatives are diverse and tasty and I‘ve had the best ever tofu scramble here.
The atmossphere is cozy enough for you to find some rest. The interior looks interesting and you will study all the little details as your gaze glides across. The staff is friendly and makes sure to check on you, even if it is full.
Since they have two locations and such a diverse menu, it is an easy choice if you feel overwhelmed by all the options in Amsterdam.

Nice, cozy looking restaurant but thats about it. Understaffed on a saturday night, forgetting our tap water at the end on our dinner (we've bought plenty of other drinks before said tap water). The food was expensive and the portions were small. My jackfruit burger contained more cabbage than jackfruit and the brioche was thin, didnt fill up at all. The fries were also meh and that portion was small aswell. There are plenty of other, better restaurants to find in Amsterdam. At least the apple pie was good and was a large chunk (and more filling than my jackfruit burger). I wont visit again.

Read moreThe “Ribs” came in a whole pierce like a steak. But it tasty and good texture. The ramen broth was good but the mushroom has a bit acidic and bitter taste to it. I think they might had marinaded in vinegar and somehow turned bitter. Another possibility is the mushroom is the same preparation as the bitter mushroom balls. Anyway, either way, I didn’t care for it. I love mushrooms because of their earthy taste.

Cons: Didn’t live up to the hype for me

Soil put emphasis on vegan food, which is seasonal and locally produced. We tried the bitterballen, they were made out of mushrooms and were very good! I had also the Reuben Burger with Tempeh and homemade Kimchi on a Sourdough bun. The Kimchi was very spicy, but all in all it was delicious! As a dessert we tried the cheesecake, also very good!
