Good but overrated - Edit
We went here because of all the reviews claiming it to be the best restaurant ever. We arrived a bit ahead of our reservation but we're seated immediately. Unfortunately an outdoor table with the heater not working at 7 degrees temperature.
Read moreThe menu is huge and carries loads of amazing sounding options. We went with 2 starters first (deep fried potato dough with pizza sauce filing, breaded pumpkin flower with "mozzarella" filling), which both were good I taste but pretty small.
As mains, we had Carbonara and a pizza (can't remember the name). The pizza dough was amazing and so was the sauce. The other ingredients were, well, let's say a bit unconventional. Mayo and beyond sausage - didn't taste bad but probably wouldn't order on a pizza again. They use beyond sausage in a LOT of dishes, which I find sad as it has this very distinct taste that is stronger than most other flavors in a dish.
The Carbonara was a disappointment. While the pasta itself was good, the sauce was VERY starchy and rather bland - as if it was made with a lot of flour. Also, the "meat" on the carbonara was very chewy, partly too hard.
Not a bad experience, but in my opinion cannot hold up to the praise in some reviews. The prices are...well....Roman! 🙃
Expect around 25-30€ per person including tips.

Rifugio Romano is one of my favorite vegan restaurants in Rome.
Read moreHere you can discover the typical roman cuisine through a 100% vegan menu.
I ordered a supplì, a crocchetta di patate, a vegan carbonara and i can guarantee you that it was all delicious!
Plus, the restaurant is located near Termini station, so it’s easily accessible by public transport.

Exceptional Vegan Food in Romantic Rome - Edit
My husband & I visited this magnificent all vegan restaurant for my Birthday in October 2024. The food, hospitality & atmosphere was excellent, & I would highly recommend vegans & non vegans alike to book a table & experience it for yourself.
Read moreWe went for the vegan shrimp with a beautiful lemon tempura batter for starter. Followed by the vegan carbonara which was excellent too. We had to end with the vegan tiramisu and vegan caramel desserts. The vegan caramel was the best dessert I've ever eaten in my life.
We cannot wait to return when next in romantic Rome. Thank you for such a magical experience 💚✨🇮🇹

Incredible choice - Edit
I have spent the weekend in Rome and have been a little envious of my friends’ menu choices at other restaurants, wishing I could try more. So, I went to Rifugio and was so delighted to see the menu. I chose the mozzarella and potato croquettes and the Gorgonzola and porcini mushroom bruschetta. I can’t wait to return and try more!

Delicious food right in the city center - Edit
Honestly it was an an interesting experience as we have taken a number of meals since we felt adventurous. Some of the dishes were extraordinary (fx. Moscardini snack or scacciatora di seitan, they were just amazing!), but some were very disappointing and we sent them back (caccio e peppe was unedible and starchy… and the snitzel was so-so). So in the end I have difficulties evaluating the experience. But hey - if you want amazing dinner, I advise you get scacciatora of seitan and get yourself a panna cotta dessert with caramel sauce. These were very good😄

Favourite Italian Eats - Edit
If giving this restaurant 5 stars was an option, I would have done it. This restaurant has an EXTENSIVE vegan menu... in fact I think they might have more clearly marked and separated vegan options then other items on the menu. I ate here THREE times on my two week trip to Italy which was every day that I was in Rome. I actually made a special trip before heading to the airport and stopped with my luggage. The ravioli was amazing and I actually had to ask if they were sure it was vegan. I also had the vegan gnocchi, again very convincing. My non-vegan father tried all of my meals as well and was incredibly impressed with the place. The real reason we went back three times was actually for the vegan desserts. The vegan tiramisu was... INCREDIBLE. Do yourself a favour and order this, you will not be let down.

Best pizza in Italy - Edit
I ate here twice during a 4 day trip to Rome. My friend, who lives in Italy and is non-vegan, said it was the best pizza he ever had (quite high praise). Close to termini station, so easy to have before or after your travel connections #Veganuary

Tasty and Hearty Food - Edit
I love this place.
Read moreIt looks like a traditional roman restaurant and it surprises you with all the vegan alternatives of the typical roman food.
It's a bit heavy, true, but so it's the traditional counterpart.
There's pizza, pasta and a lot of super tasty seitan dishes.
The desserts are amazing too.
Perfect place if you are Italian and miss some of the traditional food.
Pros: Super tasty and hearty, Big portions

Really good food! - Edit
A trusted vegan friend recommended this place to me and I’m glad I tried it. It didn’t blow me away, but it was good. We got a pizza along side “Cannelloni Vegan” with rosemary and olive oil bread. The bread was great and actually one of my favorite parts of the meal. I would give this place a second try!

Amazing Italian spot. - Edit
We’ve been here twice and I loved the appetizer which imitates sea food and the tiramisu the most. Other food was also good. But to be honest I did not like the carbonara at all. It was too heavy and the sauce too thick for me. But that’s my personal opinion.

Erano mesi che desideravo venirci. Sono rimasto a dir poco entusiasta... (Quasi) Tutto davvero eccellente e impressionante.

Undescribably awesome. - Edit
Eating at Rifugio Romano is a true experience.
Read moreNever ever had such an amazing and delicious Vegan lunch in my entire life.
My forever reason to come back to Rome.
Rifugio Romano is a family runned restaurant. The place is a bit tiny but the quality and taste of its food is undescribable.
I got to know this place because I follow the Owners daughter, Fabiola who's a food creator but to me she's also an incredible and super creative Chef, just like her husband, Davide.
To sum it up Vegan cooking is in this Family veins.
My lunch started with some Moscardini, which, I swear tasted like "real" Moscardini (a type of tiny Octopuses), Olive Ascolane and two Bruschette then I asked for their famous Gricia and I took a bite of Carbonara from the person I was with.
You cannot understand the deliciousness and I have no words to describe it.
We then had a Tiramisù, best one I've ever eaten. It absolutely beats the original non-Vegan one, hands down.
The whole lunch was extraordinary, still craving all of the dishes I've tried. The portions were very generous, for sure you won't stand up hungry.
They deserve a larger space to be able to host more customers.
The price is really worth the experience.
You must pit stop there if you're planning to go visit Rome.
Pros: Food, Staff
Cons: The place is tiny, they deserve a larger space.

Okay food, fruit flies, rudeness - Edit
The salads were good. The pizza and canzone were good. There were fruit flies buzzing around our heads the whole time. The staff was not friendly at all. Before he would let us in the door, a man who worked there demanded to know if we were vegans or not.
