Ok but not the best - Edit
The place is quite small, we had booked a table and were seated right in front of the door which was being opened every 10 seconds so we asked to change table...
Read moreThe place is very small and very crowded so it feels quite cahotic and loud... Not a place where you would stay longer after your food and chat..
Wr tried the pizza "Bomba" and it was good, even though some of the crispy seitan was a bit chewy.
The supplì was very good!
The cacio e pepe pasta was disappointing as it was quite dry and tasted a bit like pasta with philadelphia cheese🥲
The cannolo with pistachio was good

More like a Monopoly Romano - Edit
I think the lack of real competition around has made this restaurant more popular than it should be... Reservation is pretty much mandatory at dinner and you might still have to sit outside anyway.
Read moreThe menu is only qr which is a bit annoying but fine. It does have pictures, but they're pretty misleading in my experience. I attached the pictures of my dishes for reference.
For starter, I had the bruschetta with pumpkin which was okay, although the bacon and the pumpkin didn't work together, there was not enough pumpkin and it was not even baked like it shows on the menu.
For the main dish I had the mushroom and chestnut risotto. Now that one disappointed me. I had chosen this one specifically because of the chestnuts, it's what made this dish shine on the menu over mostly ordinary pastas. There were hardly any chestnuts. They were brutally chopped and maybe re-roasted/fried? They looked sad and I didn't feel them at all. The whole point of the combination between mushrooms and large chestnuts is their similarity in apparence but not in taste and texture. They complement each other perfectly. They make dishes interesting. Here, chestnuts was used like a decoration or a condiment. Or maybe as a menu bait... Even the amount of mushrooms was much less than the menu picture.
The mozzarella cheese was meh. Too sweet for some reason. The cream was not really salty, so I expected the cheese to give it a salty contrast but it didn't. Only the rosemary oil was great. Otherwise it was just a very plain risotto, cooked well, but still not worth 14eur.
The menu itself feels too simple for the prices. The pastas are mostly cream&mushrooms or tomatoes without any surprise. I also had a pizza here a few months ago and it was also just OK. Maybe the seconds are the way to go here? Idk. It's super famous and I wasn't convinced.

Rifugio Romano (a vegan tourist trap) - Edit
We had high expectations for this restaurant given all the positive reviews, but the reality is the food was OK and the service was not great. The artichoke was the best part of our meal. The service was odd most of our time there, for example, we were seated then asked to sit somewhere else after we ordered. One employee was abrasive when we asked about an ingredient. Another employee brought us our food when they were holding a phone up to their head talking. And the most annoying thing is (as they heard our American accents) they had the audacity to ask and pressure us for tips when this is not common in Europe AND we received poor service. I really don’t like when people try to take advantage of Americans tipping in Europe, I know better after living in Europe so long at this point, but it’s frustrating to know they are doing this to people. I didn’t hear them ask or pressure any of the Europeans for tips when they were paying. Anyway, I dropped my rating because of this and the poor service.

Overrated - Edit
I had heard excellent opinions about this small vegan restaurant with typical roman cuisine. So I went with my partner (we had to book one day in advance) with big expectations. First problem, they don't have any menu on paper but just with QR code, I hate this thing since I don't have a smartphone... the waiter borrowed me his phone.
Read moreThe menu is huge, with so many options that you have no idea what to choose... maybe even too many options. Everything looks amazing, on paper.
In the end I had two appetizers: artichoke "alla giudia" (fried) and bruschetta with bluee cheese and porcini mushrooms; and carbonara spaghetti as main course. I was disappointed: the artichoke only tasted like something burnt, the cheese on the bruschetta was nothing like gorgonzola but actually quite sweet and out of place; and the carbonara spaghetti were definitely too salty!! My partner's "pasta alla gricia" was also too salty! And I usually eat very salty compared to a lot of people!!!
Finally, I had a dessert, coconut ball with salty caramello, good but not great.
In the end, everything was quite ok but average, really nothing special.
The prices are quite high, we spent 75 euros for 2 appetizers, 2 pastas, 2 desserts, 2 beers, 1 coffee and 1 grappa. I don't know if I will go again....
Pros: Good and fast service, nice staff, Enormous variety of options
Cons: Menu on QR code, Expensive, Not so good

Roman style plant-based options - Edit
I am not aware about what roman-style food means. I have no relation to such cuisine. Therefore, I thought this was a good opportuniity to try it out. Initially, I couldn’t reserve a table through their website. Was marked as fully booked months ahead. I forgot about the place altogether for a while.
Read moreLater during my Rome trip, I found myself in the area and just walked by to try my luck. Got a table outside. Fair enough, they have infra-heaters above the table and I was in a hurry anyway.
The menu was big. Many options. I had problems selecting what to eat. In the end, I ordered a tempeh plate with some mashed potatoes (?). Not too bad, but lacked flavor.
Dessert was sweet (as I expected), but not too memorable.
I have to revisit another time. Great service.

nice pasta and pizza - Edit
The carbonara was very tasty. However, the bacon pieces were a little dry. The tiramisu was very good, but there was a little too much cocoa on top. The pizza with figs was an incredibly delicious combination, even though I didn't really like the dough. It was very crowded when I visited, so reservations are recommended.

When in Italy... - Edit
Everyone says the food in Italy is amazing but i was a bit scared because is not so easy to find vegan traditional options around. Thank you to the team for taking me without a reservation, had just arrived after a long trip and the food felt like a warm hug lol is, honestly, on the top. the staff were super nice and gentle as well

My favourite restaurant from my whole trip - Edit
The food was wonderful; the arancini was really good, and the pasta dish I had was cooked perfectly. I opted for a seasonal dish, and the flavours of the pumpkin cream and sage were great! Whilst I was really stuffed and contented, my partner did talk me into sharing a tiramisù, and it was the best one we've had after a week in Italy.
Read moreIt was very busy (and it was fantastic, so that makes sense), so make sure you have a reservation to avoid disappointment. Fortunately, they were able to squeeze us in, but we recommend making a reservation.

🤌🏻 - Edit
This was first first stop in Italy, and I’m glad it was my first night dinner. The food, of course, was very delicious. I had to get the carbonara, and it was my favorite pasta I had gotten in Italy. The bruschetta and croquette were delicious, as well. My only regret is not going back a second time😒and also not getting a dessert, but I was way too full

Perfect for our last night in Rome - Edit
Cute place. The weather was gorgeous and they sat us outside. Everything we had was so good. The pasta was perfect, and the 3-D printed meat was a special treat. We had it a few years ago in London and it’s nice to see the trend is catching on. The desserts were scrumptious. Make reservations; the place is busy and we saw several people turned away while we were eating. We found the service to be good and our server was very friendly. This is within walking distance from the main train terminal in the center of Rome.

Stunning food- service somewhat rushed - Edit
The food from here is absolutely outstanding.
Read moreThe cannelloni was one of the best things we'd tasted in Rome, filled with a delicious meaty ragu. The gnocchi was also very good, with some wonderful attention to detail in aspects of the dish, notably some deep fried aubergine pieces which were delicious.
The tempeh parmigiana was like nothing I've had before, the tempeh was so soft and really tasty. The steak (redefine?) was the most realistic meat taste I've ever had- more so than Juicy Marbles or Chunk (although I preferred the taste of those other two).
One thing I will say here is our second plates came out less than a minute after they'd cleared our primi, and with the well put together presentation on the plate, there's no way that could have been done in that time- meaning the plates must have been sat under hot lights for at least a few minutes before coming out to us- potentially longer. I feel the steak would have been ever better if it would have been prepared once our first courses were cleared, and I did think overall the service was a little rushed- although the waiters we're friendly and chatty, it felt like there was a priority on getting through as many covers as possible, which is sort of a shame given the food itself is so great and deserves the time to enjoy each one with the break you'd expect between courses
Pros: Cannelloni, Tempeh parmigiana, Gnocchi

Perfect birthday meal - Edit
We went here for my birthday meal - we split arancini and croquettes for starters, and then the woodcar pizza and mushroom pasta for mains. All of it was SO tasty!! The staff were lovely, we could book in advance and had a nice table. The decor is nice and theres a nice bathroom. The bill was even less than we were expecting!! I wish we were here for longer so we could go back - a much better experience that the Buddy Roma trip we had on our first night.

Good gnocchi but a bit pricey - Edit
Enjoyed the gnocchi and 3D printed steak. The starter (moscardini, fried mushrooms) and tiramisu were a bit disappointing though. It was also expensive compared to other restaurants in Rome. So would recommend it, but there are hits and misses on the menu.

Just amazing! - Edit
Great vegan versions of traditional Italian food. The carbonara was super good and we had the 3D printed meat which was mind-blowing (a bit too close to the real thing). Also had some starters and dessert. Not my favourite one, but a very solid and tasty option in Rome.
