Super Preis-Leistung - Edit
Sehr zentral in Bahnhofsnähe gelegen. Gute Auswahl & leckeres Essen. Arancino war sehr gut. Bruschetta ok.

Highly recommend - Edit
We read a few reviews here, and some say the restaurant is overrated. We don’t see it that way.
Read moreWe thought the food was very good. For starters, we had an arancino and a stuffed, fried zucchini flower.
For the main course, we had a Pizza Bomba and pasta with zucchini flower pesto. The vegan cheese was also good. The pizza had spicy vegan sausage on it and was a bit spicier.
The Tiramisu was also perfect.
We really enjoyed everything. The service was good as well. We would come back again.
Be sure to make a reservation. We saw guests being turned away because they hadn’t reserved, as the restaurant was full. It’s not a large place.
Pros: Everything is vegan , Nice restaurant , Good food
Cons: You need a reservation

Uneven and overrated but fun - Edit
It’s fun to have a place where we can eat roman dishes in vegan version and if you’re around (which is easy cause they are by termini station), it’s worth a try. This said, this place is SO overrated! I have been there 5 times and I can say: food is ok, nothing special. Some things are better than others and depending on who’s cooking, the difference can be huge. The carbonara is amazing but lots of “secondi” are awful for example. The atmosphere in the place is not the best. It’s very small and the decoration is sooooo ugly. Until some months ago they had a quite well known chef but now he’s gone so we’ll have to see what happens.

busy city-spot - Edit
I had a very yummy and fishy(!) vegan tuna pizza at Rifugio. If you love the ocean-taste, that pizza is for you.
Read moreSome of the pasta-dishes I saw looked pretty good, too.
Luckily the menu features pictures of most dishes, so I could e.g. exclude the cordon bleu, which didn’t look very appealing to me.
The space is located at a crowded street and very tiny. The tables are very small and placed very close to each other.
It’s not suited for a more intimate or relaxed dinner. You pretty much eat and leave. Toilets semi-clean.
I was happy with my pizza-choice, but probably wouldn’t come back, instead I’d check out other v-spots in Rome.

Great all vegan restaurant near Roma Termini Train Station! - Edit
We were staying just 3 blocks from the restaurant and booked a reservation for 6:30 pm. Small restaurant with outdoor seating but we were seated outside. You click on a QR code for the menu, and it took a bit to look at the various pages on the extensive menu. We ended up ordering a bruschetta with a spicy tomato spread, the eggplant Rollins and vegan salad to start. The menu is a little confusing as it doesn’t clearly state that everything is vegan but it is! For our main plates i had the spaghetti carbonara and my husband had the pasta with black garlic. Both were great but we both preferred his dish. The carbonara was similar to a mac and cheese I make with cashews and nutritional yeast and the “bacon” seemed a little chewy. We save room for dessert, and the Cheesecake with caramel and salt was out of this world amazing. My husband said best dessert he ever had! Portions were large and we have leftovers of the pasta for lunch on the train today. Wehope we can make it back soon!

Strepitoso - Edit

Not worth the hype - Edit
We went into this restaurant expecting our best meal of a 3.5 week trip around Italy. However we were much disappointed.
Read moreThe arancini balls were fine, but a bit lacking in flavour.
The carbonara was underflavoured as the sauce just tasted like blended tofu. It only had like 3 pieces of 'bacon' in it.
The pizza was also bland, undercooked aubergine and strange mounds of crumbled tofu.
The crepe with nutella was okay, but had a strange vinegar undertaste.
Given it is one of the highest rated Vegan places in Rome, we had much higher expectations but it was not worth the money. The extensive menu was also probably a red flag too.

Great carbonara and tiramisu - Edit
Visited as its top rated for vegans. I really liked my carbonara and tiramisu, very decadent. My partner's calzone had a delicious crust, but the filling was not cooked through - raw mushrooms inside. The restaurant is very small, cramped and hot. The service is OK, not the usual friendly vegan vibes you get from 100% plant based places. Probably wouldn't go again, but good to try.

Awesome - Edit
The food is absolutely delicious and the restaurant offers priceworth portion size. One side dish (like foccacia) and one main dish is enough to satisfy people who eat rather bigger portions (like me). I would definitely recommend eating there.

My favorite restaurant in Rome - Edit
Rifugio Romano serves veganized versions of traditional Roman dishes.
Read moreWe tried:
-carbonara-wow, honestly couldn't believe it was vegan. Tasted just like real egg and parmesan and didn't have the "yeasty" flavor that vegan cheese usually has.
-pizza reginella-usually not a huge fan of white pizzas, but this was delicious, great crust, vegan stracchino and a loot of pistachio on top!
-amatriciana-really yummy and flavorful sauce and nice crispy vegan bacon
-tiramisu-very creamy, delicious, must try
-torta mimosa with strawberries-it was okay, but not my favorite, the strawberries didn't taste super fresh
The staff is super passionate about vegan food! I recommend making a reservation as this spot is really popular.
Pros: Large choice of traditional dishes, Nice pizza, All vegan

The food here was so good the first time we ended up going twice during our stay, the food is amazing!! I would eat here every day if I could! I wish we were here longer because there was so much on the menu I wanted to try. Will definitely be back if we find ourselves in Rome again 💗

Good, not great. A little pricy. - Edit
I expected this restaurant to be better. We ordered two appetizers, and both were just okay, nothing special. For example, the cheese they used in the baked provolone tasted homemade but lacked flavor. Then we had two pasta dishes, which were really good—the highlight of the meal. Finally, we shared a plate of meatballs, which was also neither bad nor great.
Read moreI got the impression they aren’t very up-to-date with the latest plant-based meat and cheese alternatives. The flavors were lacking—nothing stood out. They could even reduce the number of options and focus on making better dishes.
The service was particularly weak. The waiters didn’t engage with us, which is not ideal in a restaurant where all the dishes are vegan versions and customers might not know what to expect. They barely spent a second at the table and wouldn't let us place an order unless we ordered everything at once. I prefer to order appetizers first to try out some ingredients and then decide what else to eat, but they didn’t allow that. When we ordered a dish to share, they didn’t provide an extra plate, so we had to eat from the same plate.
The price is higher than other vegan places I’ve been to in Rome, and I found those places better.
Pros: The pasta was great
Cons: Service was not good enough , Starters were medium

Good traditional food in Rome - Edit
This was my second time visiting Rifugio Romano on a trip to Rome and it was slightly disappointing.
Read moreI’m not sure if it’s nostalgia speaking but it seemed that the quality nor serving size was quite as good as the last time I visited, the last time I came I walked away thinking that it was my favourite vegan restaurant in the world but I can’t say it holds that title anymore.
It almost seemed like it had lost some of its soul somehow, the staff were cold but helpful and the food came out suspiciously quickly. The tiramisu were all premade in plastic containers etc.

Best meal in Italy! - Edit
Absolutely loved our dinner at Rifugio Romano. Everything was amazing, from the apps to the entrees, desserts and wines. We ordered a glass of the more expensive wine, then their house wine and their house wine just as good! Definitely recommend for traditional veganized Italian dishes. It was me and my husband’s favorite meal in Italy- we also went to Florence, Venice, Naples and the Amalfi coast (and my husband isn’t vegan)

high hopes and expectations, and perhaps this is why I was underwhelmed!!!! I really wanted to be able to tell all my friends.....yes...go, this place has the best traditional veganized Italian dishes eveeeeer. Sadly both the carbonara and even less the tiramisu were just.........ok! More so, if I am expected to pay 13 euros for pasta, being italian, I demand top notch quality/portion size.

Bad service, decent food - Edit
The woman server was very unhappy to work here, cold with us and not friendly at all when we arrived.
Read moreAnother server made a "mistake" which would make us pay a panna cotta that we didn't order (the first time I see it).
The food tastes good fortunately, but I dont recommend the moscardini fritti vegani, with too much fried stuff it isnt actually worth the price. The pasta were very realistic and enjoyable.
We didn't really like the tiramisu as there was not enough coffee and too much creme patissiere. The Flower Burger one is better.
Overall I wouldn't recommend a lot this restaurant, which is a bit overrated to me. Buddy Veggy is probably a better alternative if you didn't try.

Decent but not stellar - Edit
Moscardini starter was so greasy I actually gave up on eating it, even after copious amounts of lemon juice and some added mayo to dip. Tasted a bit like old oil, not really enjoyable at all. Cannelloni was quite good, and I’d eat it again, but I’d definitely pick a different starter next time. Didn’t have the issues with the staff others have reported, I found that bit to be totally fine.

Food with drama, and not in a good way - Edit
I stopped here when there were almost no customers. The lone server did nothing to persuade me to try it as I looked at the menu before deciding, and after I asked if I could have a table for one, he abruptly said that they were fully booked at seven even though I was asking for right now. Then he took a call while I was standing there without so much as saying excuse me. After he finally seated me, left me alone, and returned to take my order, only then did he inform me the chef was currently on a break so they could only serve me certain categories of food from the menu. I was starving as I just flew in today and hadn’t eaten a full meal in almost a day, yet when I tried to ask if the Parmigiana di tempeh del Rifugio that I wanted to order was large enough to eat on its own or I should order an appetizer too, he actually talked me out of ordering anything else and said I could order more later if I wanted. He also didn’t ask me if I wanted to order a drink. At that point I thought maybe he didn’t like lone customers, which I’ve experienced before. He seated a couple behind me and he told them that the chef would be returning shortly so he suggested ordering appetizers now and waiting to order pasta later (he had told me I couldn’t order pasta). At the time that solidified my opinion, but then he was very friendly to the other lone customer and told a couple that arrived as I was finishing eating about how they were fully booked at seven like he had said to me, as he was seating them (he had not said that to the couple he seated behind me). I came to the ultimate conclusion that he treats customers based on his initial personal feelings about them. And after all the drama, my meal was decent but not great, and a small portion for €14. After yet another poor experience at a restaurant with mostly stupendous reviews on here, I guess I should give up on trying trendy restaurants.

Carbonara superlativa. Tonnarelli ai fiori di zucca molto buoni. Tiramisù compatto, ma buono.

Best food in the city - Edit
We spent two night in Rome and found ourselves at Rifugio Romano both nights. I had been hoping to get fresh vegan pasta during our trip and this place had so much on offer, alongside pizzas and many other options. The online menu was very detailed (and extensive!) it was hard to decide on what to have each night. During my first visit I got the carbonara, and I will be thinking about it for a long time to come. Absolutely delicious - please make sure you go here, but book in advance as it did get quite busy
