Excellent Vegan Italian Restaurant

We are so happy we booked in advance as it was super busy when we arrived on a Tuesday night, there wouldn’t have been space for us! The menu is huge, so much to choose from. We are just gutted we were too full for dessert. Would definitely go back to try more if we come to Rome again.

Large menu of typical Roman dishes

There is a lot of choice on the menu, we had some arancini, pasta caccio e pepe and a tiramisu as desert. The place is cozy and the restaurant is quite central. The food was really good and the staff nice: we came twice!

Very atmospheric place

We visited this place without reservation, but the waitress was very friendly, and she found a free table to us. We ordered pizza and canelloni, and tiramisu for dessert. Everything were very delicious.

Pros: Friendly stuff, Delicious food, Good music

Lots of vegan choices in Italian cuisine

Amazing vegan places near Termini station! A lot of vegan options of typical and adapted italian dishes, everything good and well thought. Not expensive considering the quality! We took one antipasto del rifugio, one primo and the dessert.

The place to go for Italian vegan dishes

This place has all the typical Italian cuisine made vegan. Everything I tried was excellent: the dishes are not fancy but earthy and you really feel at home. Make sure to book ahead on their website and you'll be more than happy once you try it.

Eccellente

The Rifugio has a huge menu with a huge selection of foods. The restaurant has a cosy atmosphere with a young, modern vibe. The food was so delicious that we came back a second time and were welcomed with a warm „Welcome back.“
A reservation is required.

Delicious

Their menu offers a variety of options, all of which look fantastic. We ate bruschetta nduja, spaghetti alla carbonara, and pizza boscaiola. I was pleasantly surprised, and I wished I had also tried their desserts.

Pros: Friendly staff

Good but overrated

We went here because of all the reviews claiming it to be the best restaurant ever. We arrived a bit ahead of our reservation but we're seated immediately. Unfortunately an outdoor table with the heater not working at 7 degrees temperature.
The menu is huge and carries loads of amazing sounding options. We went with 2 starters first (deep fried potato dough with pizza sauce filing, breaded pumpkin flower with "mozzarella" filling), which both were good I taste but pretty small.
As mains, we had Carbonara and a pizza (can't remember the name). The pizza dough was amazing and so was the sauce. The other ingredients were, well, let's say a bit unconventional. Mayo and beyond sausage - didn't taste bad but probably wouldn't order on a pizza again. They use beyond sausage in a LOT of dishes, which I find sad as it has this very distinct taste that is stronger than most other flavors in a dish.
The Carbonara was a disappointment. While the pasta itself was good, the sauce was VERY starchy and rather bland - as if it was made with a lot of flour. Also, the "meat" on the carbonara was very chewy, partly too hard.

Not a bad experience, but in my opinion cannot hold up to the praise in some reviews. The prices are...well....Roman! 🙃
Expect around 25-30€ per person including tips.

Best meal of my life

Kitchen open late- I came at 22:00 and there was no problem. The pizza was perfect and I've never had better vegan cheese.

Pros: Pizza, Large portion, Penna cotta alla nutella (to die for)

Cons: Nothing

delicious food!

Rifugio Romano is one of my favorite vegan restaurants in Rome.
Here you can discover the typical roman cuisine through a 100% vegan menu.
I ordered a supplì, a crocchetta di patate, a vegan carbonara and i can guarantee you that it was all delicious!

Plus, the restaurant is located near Termini station, so it’s easily accessible by public transport.

Exceptional Vegan Food in Romantic Rome

My husband & I visited this magnificent all vegan restaurant for my Birthday in October 2024. The food, hospitality & atmosphere was excellent, & I would highly recommend vegans & non vegans alike to book a table & experience it for yourself.

We went for the vegan shrimp with a beautiful lemon tempura batter for starter. Followed by the vegan carbonara which was excellent too. We had to end with the vegan tiramisu and vegan caramel desserts. The vegan caramel was the best dessert I've ever eaten in my life.

We cannot wait to return when next in romantic Rome. Thank you for such a magical experience 💚✨🇮🇹

Incredible choice

I have spent the weekend in Rome and have been a little envious of my friends’ menu choices at other restaurants, wishing I could try more. So, I went to Rifugio and was so delighted to see the menu. I chose the mozzarella and potato croquettes and the Gorgonzola and porcini mushroom bruschetta. I can’t wait to return and try more!

Pros: Menu choice, Gorgonzola bruschetta

Delicious food right in the city center

Honestly it was an an interesting experience as we have taken a number of meals since we felt adventurous. Some of the dishes were extraordinary (fx. Moscardini snack or scacciatora di seitan, they were just amazing!), but some were very disappointing and we sent them back (caccio e peppe was unedible and starchy… and the snitzel was so-so). So in the end I have difficulties evaluating the experience. But hey - if you want amazing dinner, I advise you get scacciatora of seitan and get yourself a panna cotta dessert with caramel sauce. These were very good😄

Pros: Normal prices, Some dishes were very delicious, Freshly made

Cons: Some dishes were simply not properly made , Full of people, a bit crowded

Favourite Italian Eats

If giving this restaurant 5 stars was an option, I would have done it. This restaurant has an EXTENSIVE vegan menu... in fact I think they might have more clearly marked and separated vegan options then other items on the menu. I ate here THREE times on my two week trip to Italy which was every day that I was in Rome. I actually made a special trip before heading to the airport and stopped with my luggage. The ravioli was amazing and I actually had to ask if they were sure it was vegan. I also had the vegan gnocchi, again very convincing. My non-vegan father tried all of my meals as well and was incredibly impressed with the place. The real reason we went back three times was actually for the vegan desserts. The vegan tiramisu was... INCREDIBLE. Do yourself a favour and order this, you will not be let down.

Best pizza in Italy

I ate here twice during a 4 day trip to Rome. My friend, who lives in Italy and is non-vegan, said it was the best pizza he ever had (quite high praise). Close to termini station, so easy to have before or after your travel connections #Veganuary

Fantastic!

I chose this restaurant for my partner's birthday and we were not disappointed! The vegan section of the menu is huge, we had 4 courses and all our dishes were phenomenal. I would go back in a heart beat.

Tasty and Hearty Food

I love this place.
It looks like a traditional roman restaurant and it surprises you with all the vegan alternatives of the typical roman food.
It's a bit heavy, true, but so it's the traditional counterpart.
There's pizza, pasta and a lot of super tasty seitan dishes.
The desserts are amazing too.
Perfect place if you are Italian and miss some of the traditional food.

Pros: Super tasty and hearty, Big portions

Really good food!

A trusted vegan friend recommended this place to me and I’m glad I tried it. It didn’t blow me away, but it was good. We got a pizza along side “Cannelloni Vegan” with rosemary and olive oil bread. The bread was great and actually one of my favorite parts of the meal. I would give this place a second try!

Amazing Italian spot.

We’ve been here twice and I loved the appetizer which imitates sea food and the tiramisu the most. Other food was also good. But to be honest I did not like the carbonara at all. It was too heavy and the sauce too thick for me. But that’s my personal opinion.

Emozionante

Erano mesi che desideravo venirci. Sono rimasto a dir poco entusiasta... (Quasi) Tutto davvero eccellente e impressionante. I sapori, le consistenze... È stata una gioia. Da migliorare forse i saltimbocca che non tenevano la forma, per il resto che capolavoro! I moscardini, le bruschette, i vari sughi e formaggi wow!!

Pros: Il servizio cortesissimo , Tutto davvero impressionantemente buono, Tutto autentico, locale e piatti

Cons: Il bagno aveva la porta difettosa (?), Il menù è solo digitale, non per tutte le età

Unfortunately not so good

A very nice menu, with lots of options. The staf was kind.
Unfortunately the food was not good.. I wouldnt recommend at all.. The carbonara had a very strong fake egg flavor and was very thick. We never had real carbonara, but this didnt taste good..
The cannelloni was bland. We couldnt finish our plates.

Pros: Portion size (if the food was good)

Cons: Taste was bland or bad, Fruit flies
