Amazing - Edit
We ordered Arancini balls to start, which were crunchy and delicious. Then I had the tonnarello pasta with asparagus, hazelnuts, and lemon sauce, which was unique, fresh, and flavoursome. We also had a side of green beans which was tangy and protein packed after days of pizza! The star of the show was definitely the chocolate pistachio cake, which I am still thinking about today as it was that good. All reasonably priced, tasty and served by friendly staff. 100% go if you get the chance!

Third time didnt meet the expectations as the other two - Edit
This was my third time at Rifiugio Romano over 5 years and I am so sad to say the level of food has decreased! The tiramisu wasnt really a tiramisu not sure how they changed the recipe. The pistachio cake instead was 5/5!

Piatti abbondanti e prezzi onesti per una zona centrale di Roma. Molto comodo da Roma Termini. Meglio prenotare anche a pranzo, il locale è piccolo

Authentic, hidden gem, non-touristy - Edit
We finally found a place with unique authenticity and a very well crafted menu. The location is excellent, it is just 2 minutes away from Rome Termini station. There are no tourists here, only locals. Menu items were far from the usual expectations of a typical Italian restaurant and we were delighted with the variety of dishes.

If you go before 6:30pm you’re not able to order pasta and most of the menu as the chef is on break…

I ordered the supplì and the carbonara, and both were perfect. I was also looking at other people's dishes, and I was sad I couldn't try their food too cause every dish looked awesome! and I am sure it tased awesome as well. I will definitely come back to try more of their dishes!

Authentic vegan Italian food - Edit
The restaurant was quite full and I was lucky I got a table without a reservation. However it was an outside table (at 9°C), but they had a heater so it was okay even for a person getting cold as quickly as I do.

Delicious and in Demand - Edit
The lunch was excellent. We ordered purple gnocchi, pasta carbonara, and tiramisu. It is comparable to Pura Vita WeHo. We took a couple of panna cottas to go: salted caramel and Nutella for after dinner. They were both great. But the salted caramel panna cotta is literally the best dessert I’ve ever had. Omg.
Read moreI could only give 4 stars because there was no printed/posted menu, we were forced to use a QR code which in practice I try to avoid. I couldn’t easily connect and had to use their WiFi. I also want to minimize taking my phone out in public as much as possible due to pickpocketing. Finally, I’m on vacation and want to reduce my screen time as much as possible and would have preferred a printed menu over my phone.
During our lunch an Italian family of 5 seated next to us complained they were caught off guard because they felt duped their meal was vegan. They finished almost all of it and called the owner out to loudly complain they didn’t like the vegan food. Note: the server explicitly tells everyone the food is vegan and it’s written all over the menu. The owner dropped the check in half. Not the restaurant’s fault but it makes me think this is not the mother’s first time trying to scam a free family meal.
Pros: Food, Service, Salted Caramel Panna Cotta (omg)
Cons: Inaccessible printed menu (phone only), Rude family dining in

Great! Will be back if I'm Rome again - Edit
I had the chickpea gnocchi, the 3D-printed tagliata, and the tiramisú. Everything was delicious! If I had to be picky, I wasn’t completely sold on the flavour combination of the tagliata with carrot cream and balsamic vinegar, but that’s probably just a matter of personal taste.
Read moreIt’s a shame I could only go once, but I’ll definitely return if I’m in Rome again to try more dishes from the menu.

Will go 3rd time as well! - Edit
Went there two times in 3 days, will go again tomorrow. Definitely one of the top vegan restaurants for me. Lasagna was amazing! Appetisers as well, especially the "seafood" one. Ensalada vegana has tofu marinated in some garlic marinade. Delicious!

Food selection, awesome. Taste, great. Price, very decent for what you get. Ambient is lacking, especially if you book late and get seated next to the toilet, but even with that in mind, of visit again. Staff is great and veeeery educated on an things vegan. Go try

Nice food, but unfrienfly staff, dirty toilet - Edit
Had made a reservation, and that's absolutely necessary, as the place soon filled, and we saw people being turned away.
Read moreThe menu is quite extensive, and its good that there are photos included, although still hard to choose.
The food was ok-ish. Traditional Italian/Roman dishes. Fair price, but also rather small portions.
We had
- arachino 3€
- bruschetta with gorgonzola and mushrooms 8€
- crepes with spinach and potatoes 14€
- calzone campagnole 13€
Desserts:
Panna cotta with caramel 6€
Cheese cake with figs 7€
What killed it was the unfriendly service.
The waiter didnt say hello or anything, just a sort of nod in our direction, and after I said our reservation name, he checked on his screen, and then just pointed at at a table. No welcome, no 'have a nice meal', grumpy looking, no asking how the food was, very difficult to grab their attention to order etc (they dont seem to look around).
After the mains we waited to check whether at least someone would come and ask if we wanted any dessert. After 20 minutes it was clear they wouldn't, so then it took another 10 min before we could grab one's attention to order dessert (by in the end both waving our arms up high!! 🙈).
Tables also VERY close together, you can practically eat from the plate on the table next to you. Small tables, cramped sitting.
No relaxed atmosphere.
One toilet. Which needs a good wash. Toilet seat was very dirty (this was not from one day, but clearly had not been washed in a while, like - with a sponge!). Eek.
Not accessible, step to get in. No room to manoeuver inside.

Absolutely horrible! - Edit
Arrived promptly when they opened. Acted super sketchy. Asked if we knew it was vegan? Yes, we know. Cue weird looks. Went inside to check something. Came out and said we could sit for 25 mins. Just got an overall ick and left.

On the website, customers are informed that a reservation is mandatory. From my point of view, this reflects that a very popular restaurant is also very good.

We’re sorry for the bad experience but if you see that the restaurant is empty it doesn’t mean that it will be for long time. We need reservations, I’m sure that the waiter told you that you could have just 25 minutes because you came in the weekend and the time slot for lunch starts at 12:30, it was all fully booked at that time. That’s the reason. The reviews for a vegan restaurant are really important and I think it’s not fair to make a bad review because you didn’t book for lunch. If you did it, you could have the chance toto read online all the time slots info. The restaurant is too small to come without reservations, sorry for that. :(
