Must visit, must reserve - Edit
Reservation is a must do. Best 1-2 days in advance. But it Was worth it
Read moreBruscetta very tasty (good choice in their olive oil). Arranchini was on point and don't get me started on the pizza!
Crust was perfect and they had a good variety.
Only let down was the pana-cotta. It was a bit to firm for my taste. But that's a hard dish to create without gelatine.
It was really crowded and busy, yet the staff was splendid!
Tip them!!
Pros: Purely Vegan, Affordable!, Staff is very friendly
Cons: Crowded and busy, Must reserve a table in advance

Busy but delicious - Edit
Make sure to book in advance as it's hard to get a table without a reservation. The food was very delicious, even though I wouldn't recommend the panna cotta, as it was kinda too firm and didn't melt in the mouth. I guess it's kind of hard to get the right texture just with vegan ingredients, so I won't criticize that!

Was luckily able to walk in and snag a table for 2. If you have a bigger group, I would recommend making a reservation as it was very busy.

I had the vegan carbonara and it’s to die for! If you’re vegan in Rome you must go in Rifugio!

The tiramisu was tasty, but the portion is big, specially after eating a good pasta.

Pretty good - Edit
Excellent wine selection. I tried the vegan risotto, which was pretty good. Huge portion. Calzone campagnola vegan was ok: delicious bread and cheese but overall it was pretty average, besides that. I’m not the biggest fan of meat substitutes and beyond sausage was only ok in it. Good and prompt service.

Great vegan mains and puddings - Edit
6 days in Rome and we were desperate for something abit more substantial. Lots of choice, not just pizza, although the vegan pizza was delicious. I had a fritatta which was fab. My daughter had the vegan carbonara which was abit too strong for her but I liked it alot. For pudding we had "vegan [censored]", I kid you not check the menu 😂 and a caramel cheesecake. Happy kids and reasonable prices for central Rome

A must go for any vegan visiting Rome! - Edit
Rifugio Romano is a restaurant offering typical Italian food with vegan options (the vegan food is offered on a separate menu).
Read moreThe price is moderate but the food... well, the food is among the most amazing we ever had in our entire life!
Unfortunately, the place is *really* packed. We were able to have dinner two times there. However, this was only possible after booking a table through the restaurant's website. The first booking we requested *was not approved* and we did not the reason why (the reason was sent by email in Italian). Then, a couple days after we tried to go there without reservation and the waiter told us that it could take some time until we were served, so we gave up. In our third attempt we finally got to eat there after our reservation was approved (the same for the next day). Nevertheless, I must say the effort was completely worth it!
The staff was very kind in explaining the available options (shout-out to Romario, a very kind waiter who served us the two times we went there).
Don't overlook it just because it is "vegan friendly": Rifugio Romano is a truly must-go for any vegan visiting Rome!

Traditional dishes made vegan - Edit
This small and busy place offers the dishes of the Italian tradition in their vegan version; despite we went on a Monday evening the restaurant were full, so I recommend to reserve your place in advance. Even if it is not a fully vegan restaurant everyone inside was asking for vegan food… The reason is simple, everything we tried was scrumptious and the portions were very satisfying. We had a vegan supplì (a fried rice ball with tomato sauce and vegan mozzarella cheese, very nice!), vegan olive ascolane (fried green olives stuffed with minced soy), vegan cacio e pepe ( spaghetti with vegan pecorino and pepper), vegan carbonara (tonnarelli pasta with smocked seitan, smocked tofu cream and vegan cheese). Both kind of pasta were creamy, abundant and delicious. Than we had a seitan steak with porcini mushrooms and potato backed wedges… this was the best seitan dish I ever had, seitan was homemade, nicely flavoured, crispy… really tasty! For dessert we choose a vegan cheesecake with salted caramel.
Read moreAtmosphere was relaxed, staff was welcoming also with my little dog (they give him a water bowl and they cuddled him).
They also have vegan pizza.
I wish they will soon become fully vegan…
Pros: Large vegan menu , Friendly staff , Scrumptious food
Cons: Please turn fully vegan!

Super traditional Roman cuisine, vegan version - Edit
I am vegan. I went to the restaurant for lunch. on Saturday. It offers a traditional Roman cuisine menu and a vegan counterpart, from appetizers to desserts. What my family and I had (2 vegans and 2 vegetarians) was delicious and abondant. The staff super nice. Pricing good.

Taste the Tiramisu =) - Edit
This place was recommended by friends of us, they are not vegan.
Read moreWe had croquettes as a starter. I thought it is mozzarella, maybe there was also, but mainly potatoes inside. With a creamy Dip, it was good. For main dish we had Pizza, spicy and with baked seitan and cannelloni.
It was both very tasty.
For desserts we tried the Tiramisu, and it was absolutely amazing. Try it!
We didn't had a reservation (in February), we came when they opened so we got a table outside. The staff was friendly.
Very good options for couples or groups, when one part is vegan and the other omnivore.
Pros: Most dishes are also available as a vegan dish, Very quick serving
Cons: You need a reservation for good seats

Everything tasted deep fried - Edit
We came here, super excited to have some vegan Italian food. All the reviews were good and it's close to our hotel so we thought we'd probably come here a few times during our week long stay.
Read moreIt started ok, they had a separate vegan section of the menu so it was easy to see all the options. We went with arancini and something similar with cheese for a starter which I liked but my travel companion thought tasted like fish fingers.
Next, we got the spaghetti carbonara with seitan, and some ravioli. When the food came out it looked delicious! It was not. Have you ever had undercooked spaghetti that still somehow tastes deep fried? Because I now have, and it is not an experience I am keen to repeat.
To clarify, I like my pasta al dente so that is not the issue. This was legitimately undercooked and yet so greasy and disgusting.
We ended up having about five bites each and then asking for the bill because it was so gross we could not even finish the meal. If I had a choice between going here or not eating all day long I would just starve.
Pros: Separate vegan menu
Cons: Everything tasted deep fried, Insanely heavy inedible food, Could not even finish the meal

Its ok, but there’s better. - Edit
We’ve been to RR many times and to be honest, we were far more enamored of it 5 years ago. Whether it’s our expectations or the quality of their food that has changed, RR is now just a place that offers a lot of mediocre vegan options. Super awesome that they offer what they do, but I wish the offerings tasted better…?
Read moreThe arancini was really good. Crispy on the outside, moist and savory on the inside. The supplì was not. It was dry and largely flavorless. The cacio e pepe was ok (it’s a fine pasta but doesn’t taste anything like what I remember actual c&p tasting like); however, I found it disappointing that their carbonara was exactly the same pasta only with bits of dried seitan on top.
I ordered a pizza after trying some amazing vegan pizza in Florence and was truly disappointed. Great that they have vegan cheese but The crust tasted of cardboard and toppings weren’t cooked well. Much preferred the cheese less options we picked up from a random pizza by the slice place on via del corso.
We’ve loved the tiramisu in the past but we were altogether so “meh” with our meal we chose to skip dessert this time.
Also, the service is really bad. Like way worse than normal. It took us 2.5 hours to get through a meal b/c we could never flag down our server and then they rushed us out the door like it was our fault.

Hard to find a table without reservation. After waiting for half an hour we managed a table for two outside. They have a lot of vegan options and are easy to find on the menu. Expected more of the bruschetta al pomodoro, but the suppli vegan was good. The pizza was okay and the pasta tasted nice.
