Just okay

This was our first meal in Osaka and we visited due to the excellent reviews on Happy Cow. The presentation of the food is excellent but the tastes were bland and underwhelming. The appetiser was by far the best part of the night, 4 chef chosen dishes which were all delicious and very well presented. We ordered the set menu for main which is very well sized with soy meat, salad, rice, miso and some avocado. The miso was tasteless, I did not finish it. We also ordered the veggie and 'anchovy' pizza which was smothered in a creamy yet tasteless sauce. It was impossible to cut with the pizza cutter provided.
Although the staff are friendly enough and they decor has such a raw and rustic feel, this venue is the first in Japan to receive a 3 from us. Very underwhelming unfortunately.

just go its worth it

Got the hamburg set and was the best vegan mock meat I've ever had. Seriously. Just get it. The whole plate was filling and delicious and customer service was rlly nice. The interior design is so cute and cozy. One of my favorite vegan restaurants so far. Sadly they ran out of their soy milk soft serve that I wanted but all in all a great place to stop by.

Pros: cool vibes, delicious hamburg, great soup too

Cons: ran out of soft serve :(

Vibrant, amazing tasting food

Great food, I had a "pizza" with veggies, soy meat and vegan cheese, it was very interesting, delicious, but didn't quite seem like a pizza haha! It was more like a circle of bread, conpletely covered with a selection of tasty treats, more like a pie without the edges. The decor is nice, fresh, cool, and cosy. The people were nice, service was great, the value for yen is good. They also sell a range of vegan foods, an interesting selection, but expensive. Highly recommend!

Pros: Food, Atmosphere

Paprika Shokudo, Osaka

In light of the useful info from the previous reviewer we rang ahead before visiting. No answer.

Cons: Poor communication. Is it still in business?

Wasted trip

Having seen good reviews for this place - and a negative comment on another local establishment where people had turned up to find it closed, without notice - we went out of our way to trek across town to Paprika on our last day in Osaka - in midsummer, with heavy luggage.

You've guessed, it was closed without notice. No sign on the door, no notice on their 'website' (i.e. Facebook page, which marked it as 'open now'), no response (let alone an automated message etc.) when we phoned, no reply to a Facebook message (even though they're marked as 'highly responsive'), the neighbours knew nothing...

We waited around for around half an hour, then gave up. Perhaps there had been some sudden emergency? I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt, But there was no apology or reference to this on their page over the following few days, so I can only assume that they were simply acting irresponsibly, with poor customer service & communications. YMMV but we won't be back.

Pros: Others say it's good

Cons: Poor communication, Unreliable

Loved Paprika Shokudo!

Visited Osaka, tried Paprika, and we had to come back several times!!! We love it that Paprika is organic, health-conscious and natural. The owner is vegan, and a nice guy. It's a short walk from the station and pretty easy to find. The staff are very nice, and some speak English. We loved everything we tried, and can't wait to go again :)

Delightful!

Wonderful! Great menu, great service and the organic wine was a big hit too. With ice cream and cheesecake for dessert we were more than happy. The fact that two of my guests were meat eaters and loved their dishes is probably the biggest compliment.

We had a table by the door which was lovely, although in the more usual humid summer this may have proved a problem. Love this place! Best vegan restaurant visited so far!

Hi there,

Thanks for taking the time to provide such an up tempo review of this place?

if I can politely enquire... given your obvious passion for this place, did you intend to bring its ranking down by rating it at only 2 stars?

Very best wishes.

Why are you giving only 2 starts to the place that you said you loved and was "wonderful"? Did you forget to properly rate it? I think so. Please correct your star rating to fit your positive review.

Wow this place is stunning! I went here with 2 other friends and we shared a soy meat pizza with mochi cheese, 4 appetizers and the eel !! I was so full and couldn't get desert but I am going to go back just for desert alone!

If you are finding it hard to choose where to go in Osaka. Just go here you will love it

Great Food and Atmosphere!

Was pumped to try Paprika and was not disappointed. I had a salad which was incredibly fresh plus the soy meat pizza which was delicious.

Unfortunately they had sold out of soy soft serve but the cheesecake was served beautifully and tastes just as good.

The atmosphere is great, staff friendly and attentive, it's a must-try spot in Osaka!

Pros: All vegan!, Large menu, Great atmosphere

Fresh and delicious

Found this place on a sunny day. It wasn't at all busy and I was served very quickly. The atmosphere was nice with good music. I ordered the lunch set of the day- houmous pitta, soup, salad and some pickled vegetables. It came quickly and was great! The soy ice cream was also delicious, with a few oats and a little biscuit. I laid about 1200 yen, which I thought was good. Would definitely return. Pictures uploaded :-)

The best place in Osaka

Even meat people would love this place. The food is awesome, the atmosphere is relaxed and cozy and the staff is friendly and helpful.

It's a bit off the main road which in it's way is great. Osaka can be very busy and hectic sometimes.

We had the deep-fried oysters - which was great. And the yakiniku set meal - also great. We have been traveling for a few months and the fake meat was just what we needed after so much real meat around us in Japan and NZ. Great ingredients and fresh veggies.

We had their organic red wine which was a bit cold but good.

amazing food, deceptive name

Great location, just a few blocks from the main shopping strip
Quick service and delicious food, will be attending a few times over my stay to eat everything on menu and chose to start my sumo training
It's called the paprika shokudou cafe but I haven't yet to get a whiff or hint of any paprika used in the food, that aside if you're in Osaka you need to come

Pros: great food , fast services

Great food, amazing desserts

We had a wonderful time at Paprika Shokudo with my non-vgl boyfriend. He ate a karaage donburi and I had a "deep-fried oysters" plate made from mushrooms and tofu. Both were delicious. But the cherry on top was the desserts. I had the best chocolate soft ice-cream and my boyfriend tasted the assortment, everything was perfect (I tasted everything and wow). I highly recommend this place, plus people were very friendly and helpful.

Pros: typical Osaka meals made vegan, Yay !, friendly staff , desserts to die for

Good food, not great opening times

We went there a couple of times for lunch and the food is great, so we were looking forward to trying the dinner menu. We turned up at 9pm-- a bit late for dinner, yes, but this is two hours earlier than close and 1 earlier than last order as listed on their own website and business cards. There was a closed sign outside and when we asked the waitress about why this happened early there was no explanation except 'we've already started cleaning up'. She seemed very apologetic, and obviously this is up to them, but it seems like they should at least update their opening times if this is a regular occurrence so people don't make a wasted visit.

Great vegan food, nice atmosphere

After a morning of watching the sumo, my girlfriend and I decided this would be a decent place to check out for lunch. After a longish walk, we found the place to have a pleasant rustic Mediterranean feel to it, and was clearly marked as vegan (always comforting in Japan, sometimes it can be difficult to be trusting).

They sat us down and gave us an English menu. We both had a main and a dessert. All the food was good and decent value for money.

There was a little shop corner in the entrance to the restaurant that sold a lot of goodies. If I had visited this place earlier in my (year long) stay in japan, I certainly would have left with a bag full of (admittedly not cheap) goodies.

Overall we were very happy with the experience at Paprika Shokudo Vegan. The food was good, and well priced, the atmosphere was great and the service was good. I would recommend people in the area to check it out.

Pros: Great atmosphere, Good food, Affordable

Good, but with some caveats.

I went to Paprika with some friends last week, and while the food we had was great, there were a couple of things that stood out as not being a great experience.

First the good- the atmosphere is great. It's a lovely, beautiful restaurant with really lovely staff. Most of us were foreigners, and while some of us are fine with Japanese, many were not comfortable with Japanese at all, so the staff being ok with English was great.

That being said, we were a party of seven, and there were some problems with service for us. The food is all made fresh (which is great), but the food didn't all come out together, which meant that some of us had finished eating before others had even been given their meals. They also had a little mistake where they forgot two of the mains (which again, can happen, we understand that). I think they are maybe a little more accustomed to having couples dining together, so I would advise that if you are going as a group I would recommending sharing dishes, so that way you can all be eating at the same time. Small plates were provided from the outset, so I'd say that this is probably their recommended way of eating.

I probably would go again, simply because the atmosphere is so pleasant and the staff were so great, but I probably would only go with a smaller group, or would specifically warn the group that we'd probably need to all just share.

Pros: Friendly staff, Great atmosphere, Large selection

Cons: Food didn't come out at the same time, Some dishes significantly slower to come

Delicious!

I had an amazing dinner at Paprika. Amuse-bouche, Chef’s selection of appetizers, deep fried oysters made from mushrooms and tofu, and baked organic banana and cinnamon cake. All their food is organic and vegan, with a wide selection of appetizers and main dishes. Good side portions. Beautiful, laid back space with good music. The service is friendly and efficient. There is a service charge for dinner. Menu is available in English, and the staff speaks English as well.

Pros: Food, atmosphere, wine

Really love this place

This is my favorite spot in Osaka. It's such a pretty restaurant, with lots of delicious food. Really friendly service (and they speak English), romantic lighting, nice music. The food is a mixture of rice bowls with veggies and various vegan meats, and pasta/pizza. I recommend the rice bowls (donburi), especially the soy meat yakiniku donburi.
