Excellent 😋

The Best Vegan Restaurant in Lisbon

Finally I found a place in my beloved Lisbon that caters to the Mediterranean diet and my picky and sensitive stomach. By far, the best restaurant I've ever been to. This is an all time favourite and whenever I'm back in the city, it'll be my go to place.

Pros: The Menu is varied and very sophisticated.

Cons: The space is small, which isn't actually a cons 😉

Delicioso

Mind blowing

One of the best vegan restaurants I have ever been. Hard to believe that it was all vegan. We tried traditional Portuguese cuisine. Great service, delicious food, and sooo a bad mood that we was only one day in Lisbon 😭

Highly recommend for a 'fish-style' meal

We went there in 2020. The 'sardines' were extremely good! We had several other dishes like the "choco frito" that also tasted amazing.

My bf had the francesinha for the main and was a bit disappointed.

We however totally recommend this place!

They have gender neutral toilet btw :)

Pros: Many fish-like traditional dishes, Amazing sardines, Nice place, gender neutral toilets

Cons: Francesinha was nothing special

Highly recommend

So good

We went there on Sunday night and got really lucky to get a table last-minute, so be sure to book a table in advance!

The food was so delicious we forgot to take a picture before getting started 😅 the seitan steak was great, the francesinha was really good as well, but a bit heavy. The portions are definitely big enough, but getting your leftovers as takeaway is possible. We got our desserts to go as well, as we were too full from our starter and main, but didn't want to miss out on the peanut butter and chocolate pie.

The staff was super friendly as well! I'd definitely recommend going here!

Yes

Food is so goddamn good, the sardines omg! The only thing for me is that sometimes it really feels like you’re eating real meat and I’m not a fan of vegetarian food that really tastes like meat.
BUT THE PEANUT AND CHOCOLATE PIE THAT TASTES LIKE REESE CUPS ON STEROIDS I-

Avoid if you haven’t been vaccinated in the EU

The place seems very nice but we got rejected at the door because we had our COVID-19 vaccines in the UK, even though they were Pfizer and happened more than two weeks ago. Lots of places only check that to let you in, I would recommend the owners to do the same and avoid loosing customers.

Comida sensacional

Great place, great food

If you want to try a tradicional portuguese dish (from Porto), but you are vegetarian, you must try their Francesinha!
As a Portuguese person, I can tell you that it tastes the same!
Also the staff was really nice, and the rest of the food was delicious.

Below average

We chose this place due to its high rating and amount of good reviews but we left disappointed. The seitan steak for 12 euros was just a big greasy steak with underseasoned veggies and potatoes. The Portuguese traditional starters board was a bit tastier but still average. The bill was 43 euros so we felt like we could have cooked something yummy at home and still have 30 plus euros to spend on drinks. The cockroach on the wall did not improve the impression. Overall below average and underwhelming.

Best peanut butter cake ever

Best peanut butter cake ever, really addictive.
I didn't like the Francesinha very much, the bread felt old. But in other occasions I tried their seitan and it was the best I'd ever tried in my life, so the place still deserves 5 stars.

Pros: Good food and good portions

Cons: No outdoor seating

Delicioso!

We had a lovely lunch at Ao 26. The beet risotto was delicious and elevated to excellent when the cream (seen in the center) was mixed into the rest of the dish. The seitan steak was fine, but felt boring to me. (The seitan steak was fluffy and not a hard/dense puck, so that's a positive. If you're craving seitan, then this is the dish for you.) The appetizers were delicious and all the food was presented beautifully. Definitely a place to check out during your visit to Portugal.

Amazing food and very generous staff!!

Must try the traditional Portuguese dish of bread with tomato sauce & Seitan & vegan cheese (we forgot the name of the dish)!
Also, amazing desserts!

Cons: Expensive but worth it😉(12~15€ per dish).

One of the top vegan restaurants in international comparison

I was really stunned by my experience at Ao 26. First of all, they are promoting vegan cooking all over Lisbon and supporting omnivore restaurants to add vegan options, which to me personally already deserves a 5-star rating. And then of course the food itself was incredible. They over a creative and flavourful menu inspired by the Portuguese cuisine, which is usually based on fish. Anyway, Ao 26 creates the flavour of seafood without just copying the original and every dish is a taste symphony. They have a changing menu but I recommand trying the Portuguese inspired dishes, having a burger here would really be a waste.
