Great Vegan Food - Edit
Whilst this is mainly classed as street/junk food, don’t let this put you off. There is plenty of choice and the flavours are amazing. It was a little hard to find unless you know it’s below Hinterland Bar as it’s easy to miss the sign. Well worth a visit.

Visited these guys at VCO 2025, had the Korean Corndog and Korean poppers and it was all amazing, very delicious, nice combination of spicy and sweet and very affordable. Will definitely visit the restaurant if I am ever in the area!

Good food - Edit
I had their truffle corndog at VCO 2025. It was quite good but not easy to eat as it came without a stick.

UPDATE: Visited them at their new location at Hinterland Bar and again the menu was creative and all the food we had was delicious!
Read moreUPDATE: Had more of their food at Kendal Calling festival and it was again delicious! We had the chikn Truffle Burger, beefless Chilli Cheese Burger, Korean Poppers and Thai Fries. It was all excellent with fresh ingredients and amazing flavours!
ORIGINAL: This is listed as the most popular vegan restaurant in Manchester on HappyCow and I can absolutely see why – the food is delicious!
Wholesome Junkies is only a small restaurant - it’s located under a railway arch and actually doesn’t have a sign with its name outside. Inside the décor is lovely and cosy with lots of cute decorations and a really welcoming feel. Me and my fiancée came on a Sunday and were actually lucky to get a table as they had a lot of bookings, so I’d definitely recommend booking in advance.
The menu had a lot of exciting options and as it was Sunday they had a special Sunday menu including a roast and a roast burger, called the Smash Burger, both of which we ordered along with the Cauli Cheese Poppers and an extra truffle mayo dip.
We were served relatively quickly and the staff were very friendly but unfortunately we then had to wait for over 45 minutes to actually receive our food. When we arrived at the restaurant we had an hour and a half before we needed to leave to catch a coach but by the time we actually received our food it was over an a hour after we’d arrived and we were left in a bit of a rush to eat it. It was also not very warm in the restaurant which made the wait worse. If it wasn’t for this wait my review would have been an easy 5/5 because the food was absolutely delicious, but unfortunately the wait did take away from my experience.
When the food arrived the presentation was excellent and I was very excited to eat it. It was absolutely delicious! The burger had a really unique flavour, was a lovely texture and was just so full of flavour, I loved it! The roast was also amazing, with lovely crispy roasties, delicious vegetables and wonderful stuffing. The Cauli Poppers were also very delicious and moreish!
We also got a Biscoff brownie and a berry tart for dessert to take away. The tart was delicious and came with a little pot of ice cream, and the brownie was amazing. It was super rich and chocolatey and I loved it!

Great brunch! - Edit
Fabulous brunch menu with lots of options. We went for the breakfast burgers with a side of salt and pepper hash browns with crispy mushrooms and onion rings from the lunch menu. The mocha and turmeric and cinnamon milky were delicious!!

Every burger, side dish, or other main they make is extremely well thought in terms of balancing ingredients and super tasty. We go on a regular basis and often bring our dog too

Disappointing - Edit
No Sunday roasts on Sunday for summer and yet no information on the website to tell you this. We heard other people were disappointed at the lack of their advertised roast dinner too, don't know how they wouldn't realise vegans would specifically turn up on a Sunday for this and be disappointed. Having had a lovely roast a few weeks ago we thought we would return today. My partner was only given a brunch menu which was very confusing as it was 1pm and brunch had finished and it delayed us ordering. Once we eventually found something that didn't hugely appeal (compared to th roast) we then waited half an hour for food so it made us late meeting friends.
Read moreThe food was ok but unhealthy. My partner had a chili cheese burger, I had Korean tofu poppers and cauliflower wings with cheese sauce and we shared some chips. It was ok but not a patch on the delicious roast dinner we had previously.
Also on our first visit here around Christmas the "spicy" noodle soup was bland and the other (mostly Christmas themed) small plates we had ordered were not that great so we didn't rate it and henceforth had decided only to return for the Sunday roast as unfortunately the menu is all burgers and small plates with only 1 large plate that isn't a burger happening at any one point (on this occasion that bland laksa type noodle soup).
Deposit required to book. Then you feel you can't leave when you don't like the menu. This is what killed Harmonium in Edinburgh along with a similar menu of predominantly burgers.
Pros: Cauliflower wings with cheese sauce excellent, Roast dinner when on is good, Korean tofu poppers
Cons: No info about menus served on the website, No alcoholic drinks/alcohol free drinks expensive, They require a deposit to book a table.

My Fav in Manc - Edit
I am a reoccurring customer to Wholesome Junkies - they never disappoint!! From Hinterland Bar, Beatherder festival, to the old spot near Victoria station.. Delicious burgers and sides! I tried the classic burger with the gluten free bun recently, amazing. Prices aren’t cheap, but it’s well worth it as a treat, and great to support a local business!!

Well, the bottom of the menu outside says "YES! everything is vegan and alcohol-free"

Perfect vegan treat - Edit
Been following wholesomejunkies for YEARS and finally visited. We ordered almost everything from their smaller menu at Piccadilly Central 🌱 we tried their ‘chilli cheese burger’, ‘cheeseburger egg rolls’, mac and cheese, salt and pepper chicken and fries, plus we tried their truffle mayo and their chilli mayo- this was SO good. Absolutely delicious, if I could’ve bought that truffle mayo on its own bottled up I would’ve. We even tried their desserts- I had the biscoff cheese cake and my partner tried the sticky toffee pudding.

Tried these at Nottingham Vegan Festival and wish their restaurant was closer as the burger was really tasty. They had huge queues for their stall too so they're obviously very popular.

Wholesome Junkies @ Hinterland - Edit
Second time at Wholesome Junkies in the Hinterland alcohol free bar. I love the relaxing atmosphere in here, it’s very friendly, cosy design inside. I had the Korean tofu poppers with mac and cheese, both very tasty. Deciding what to order is the hardest part as everything sounds delicious! I highly recommend this spot - also book if you can as it’s a popular spot.
