Delicious!

I love that they name some of their meals after famous vegans! It’s a very nice atmosphere and all the food is delicious and well priced!!! My non vegan uncle claimed that it was some of the best gravy he had!

Great Vegan Comfort Food!

Really good wholesome food, and extremely tasty. The chicken tenders were among the best vegan ones I’ve had. Good comfort food, vegan-style. Not fancy, but very good!
Our server Chloe was super friendly.

Pros: Lots of choice, Very reasonable prices , Very tasty food.

Cons: 🤷🏾‍♂️

Favorite place for breakfast!

I've been going here for over a decade! I've always been impressed, but over years their recipes haves gotten better. I love their pancakes/tofu scramble. Also, they have delicious craft beers.

Pros: Everything is vegan!

Cons: For pick-up/delivery, the fries get soggy fast.

Not worth the effort.

Service and food is hit or miss. Every time I’ve been there the servers seem upset, annoyed that customers are even there. The food is alright some of the time, but other times not. I don’t know if they have a high turnover rate for cooks or something because quality depends on the day I guess. Definitely skip this place and go somewhere else.

Pros: All vegan.

Cons: Quality of food is erratic, not consistent. , Servers seem annoyed that customers exist.

Loved the food here!

My dad and I were visiting from California, I saw the pictures and menu and I was so excited to try it here. I ordered the mountain breakfast plate with a side of gravy, wow yum! I wish I got sausage instead of tempeh bacon (i don’t recommend it). I also ordered chocolate chip pancakes and ate it all it was so good.

My dad got the buffalo wings and ordered a beer. The waitress taking our order was a minor so the manager had to come and ID check my dad. He is a 64 year old senior and was really upset by that, I had to let him know they were just doing their job but he didnt want to return to the restaurant again after that experience. Which was unfortunate because there was more on the menu I wanted to try. I apologize to the waitress though! I use to wait tables and understand the strict rules. Salt lake city seems to take stuff like that seriously in general with bars scanning IDs at the entrance and everything.

Anyway I would still highly recommend and rate 5 stars for visitors to try!

Pros: Lots of options, Filling meals, Yum flavors

Delicious!

This is one of my favorite vegan restaurants. I always get the ian mackaye on 7-grain bread, and it is always delicious! The service is a little slow, but the food comes out quickly after ordering.

Pros: Delicious Food, Many Options

Cons: Slower Service

I just don’t understand the hype...

Nothing I’ve ever tried here has been above average. Always waiting so long for service once seated. Definitely a diner experience but not in the good way as far as cleanliness and vibe. There’s so many better Vegan options in the valley... Don’t waste your money on such mediocre food.

Cons: Not worth the price, Slow Service , Not good food

Pleasant vegan diner

Salt Lake City has a bunch of good vegan restaurants, and they are popular. This is one of them. A real “diner” experience: the building, the décor, the menu, and the atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed our Philly “cheesesteaks”: mine on 7-grain bread and my wife’s on gluten-free bread. Convenient location on light rail line and plenty of free street parking nearby.

Pros: vegan "diner" experience, can get gluten free, nice location

Amazing food and amazing service

I had an unplanned overnight layover on my flight home from California. Perfect time to explore one of the local restaurants, no? Vertical Diner was not far away and open late. I tried the chicken ranch sandwich with chips and salsa. Everything tasted wonderful! I felt so welcomed and so taken care of in my time of stress, and happy to have found quality vegan food at almost 10pm. Definitely want to come back again!! ❤️

Pros: Delicious food , Friendly service , Great hours

Cons: None

Amazing vegan breakfast!

It’s been a while since we’ve had a proper vegan breakfast, but we really lucked out with this place! Get The Mountain with sausage patty or bacon (vegan obvi) and you will be GLAD you did!

Pros: Everything is vegan!, Tempeh bacon is DELICIOUS, Food is super reasonably priced

Cons: No matcha (but like, that’s hardly a problem)

Don't get the Dude Cakes

The description was pancakes with sausage and green peppers, mushrooms, onions, potatoes with gravy. It came out as what seemed like a broken up burger patty between two huge pancakes with gravy and a few fries sprinkled on top. There wasn't enough "filling" between the two big breakfast pancakes for it to taste anything other than I was eating pancakes with the wrong condiment (gravy). Also I asked for no mushrooms and the server forgot to tell the kitchen. Didn't feel comfortable sending it back because the server asked if I was allergic and you just feel like an ass saying "well no I'm not allergic to mushrooms but can you take it back anyways because my husband doesn't like them and we were going to share our meals?" So then I was stuck with the huge plate of gravy pancakes all to myself.

My husband's burger with Mac and cheese in it was good, nothing to rave about.

Cons: Bad meal , Server not knowing how to deal with mistake

Totally underwhelmed.

Took entirely too long to get seated, and when we finally did, there were ants all over the back of the table and the window sill. Discussed asking to move, but based on awkward server interactions thus far, we just squished some of the ants and tried to ignore the rest. (yeah, I know, #notvegan)
The restaurant was mostly empty but servers kept telling incoming diners they would have to wait 10 to 15 minutes to be seated. Most of those people just left.
Ordered Nacho Mama with sausage, the sausage arrived plopped on top like two pieces of toast - we had to crumble it up ourselves. Salsa tasted sour, more like store bought pasta sauce than salsa.
Also ordered a tempeh Reuben, it came on soft bread (not griddled or even toasted) filling was disgustingly sweet and neither of us could finish it. The Mac & Cheese was bland, but at least salt and hot sauce could rescue it.

No idea why this place has so many good reviews.

Pros: Salt, Hot Sauce

Cons: Ants, Food

Worst food I ever paid for

We had to wait 45 minutes to get a seat, even though there were free tables but the waiters just wouldn't clean them.
The food arrived really fast, I ordered a Philly cheese steak, which came with the wrong side and my mom had a burger. The burger was ok. The sandwich was really bad, it was just onions in a weird sauce with some pieces of chicken. I was really disappointed. I definitely won't come back.

Amazing food

All the food I’ve tried is amazing but the restaurant itself is pretty dirty inside. Every now and then there are a lot of flys inside.

Awesome Birthday Brunch

I was able to go to Vertical Diner yesterday for the first time for my birthday brunch. I had an absolutely amazing time. The staff there was really nice and awesome, and I loved how the diner felt so welcoming and had the aura of a traditional diner. The menu says "every little last item served in this restaurant is entirely plant-based," which I really appreciated. Our server was extremely friendly and helpful to answer our questions about the menu.

I ordered the Vertical Burrito with vegan sausage and tofu scramble in it. The flavors were amazing. The side of potatoes was also excellent and crispy, and they were good to dip in the sauce that came with the burrito. Biscuits were a good side to my burrito as well; they were flavorful with a nice crunch.

My dad, non-vegan, ordered the Vertical Tacos and enjoyed them as well. He is a lover of butter and normally is very selective about having real butter over margarine. But here at Vertical Diner, where the butter was of course not "real" butter, he actually really loved it. And as for his pancakes he had it with, he said, "I want to come back here even just for the pancakes themselves!" The four of us shared a large fry as a side to our meals as well. The fries were sooo good. Every bite I ate here was delicious and filling. I am so excited to try more options on the menu.

Pros: Excellent food, Friendly staff

Cons: Waters did not come with ice

Some good, some ok

The pancake with fruit was really good. The guac n' roll was good too, but the spicy fries were a bit soggy. The Reuben with mushrooms was too salty and a little disappointing. Overall good and reasonably priced.

Wanted to Like This Place

I really wanted to like the Vertical. There were only a couple people in before us and several empty tables. It still took about 15 minutes to seat them. A couple came in right after they were seated and signed in just like we had. For some reason they decided to call them before us. The couple were in the breezeway making out so they seated us instead. I asked why they had wanted to take them out of turn and the hostess said they were a to go order. Not five minutes later they were seated nearby. I let it go and we ordered. The potato dish arrived and I notice they brought me country fries instead of the hash browns the menu said were part of the meal. They were bland and dry. When he came back, I mentioned they gave me the wrong type of potatoes. He said those are hash browns. I told him no they were not. He said they are “country hash browns”. I told him no they are not and perhaps they are country style potatoes but that is not the same as a hash brown. Because the not hash browns potatoes were so dry I ordered some gravy. It arrived quickly and I put it on my potatoes but should have tasted it first. It had a sweet taste and reminded me of a hollandaise not a gravy. I disliked it. I left the rest of my food. I must say I was trying to overlook the shabby and dull somewhat dirty looking environment with an espresso machine that was so loud you could hardly hear anyone talk. There are many vegan food places in Salt Lake City so this is not the only choice. If you want funky and to be treated like you don’t matter this place is fine.

So Good-But

The menu is great and the food is always delicious. I like the location. My hang up is cleanliness. There were dead flies in the window sills and visible thick dust in certain areas. Some people might not mind that but I can't compromise. Wish this wasn't the case, otherwise I would still be dining here it.

Pros: Many options for breakfast and lunch/dinner., Servers-the best are more mature/experienced
