Best sandwiches - Edit
This is the best place in Sydney for a really tasty sandwich! These sandwiches are huge, and full of flavour! Staff are always exceptionally lovely and go that extra mile for food presentation! Now, I’m a sandwich girl myself, but my bf just said their salads are crazy good too!!

Lovely spot for a range of delicious vegan treats - Edit
Good coffees and a range of sandwiches. My partner did not recommended his rueben however other sandwiches i’ve tried have been great! Bowls are also good size and well priced. I also recommended the muffin as it tastes very traditional cafe style which is hard to come by in a vegan form

Extensive Review: loved this place, vegan heaven, superior quality ingredients, and service - Edit
After reviewing the Shift Eatery website, my partner and I wanted to check out this venue. I liked their choice consideration menu options; for example: gluten-free bread available at no extra cost, nut free, onion & garlic free, soy free and C = chilli. Within menu planning this information is important. Their website mentions daily cakes and slices on the menu, without having set choices to pick from. This may be limiting for pick-up deliveries.
Read moreThe venue was easy to find due to good signage and close to Central station. The Café environment was small & cosy. It was easy to get a table. This place had a positive energy with a steady flow of customers. The chairs & tables were secure, comfortable, and nicely spaced out. Our waiter was friendly, pleasant, attentive, and knowledgeable. What I liked within the café was the rustic feel. I noticed there was a sandwich counter. I could watch how a sandwich or meal was made. The glass cake-stand had slices, and balls of goodness.
Our orders came out promptly. I ordered a small almond cappuccino. The coffee tasted nice. It had a soft-medium flavour at the right temperature, but not extraordinary.
Then I ordered the Buffalo Sub. While I do not like chilli, this baguette was amazing. The chilli did not overpower but enhanced the dish. The baguette was nicely baked and toasted. This gave the dish a nice crunch and texture. The other ingredients fused into an incredible balance of amazing flavours. I savoured herbal, sweet, chilli, savoury, creamy, & lemony flavours. It was a perfect combination and seasoned well. The generous baguette secured all the ingredients adequately. Not too much filling fell onto the plate. Nor was the baguette soggy. It was not sickly. The meal was refreshing and light.
My partner had the Smokey Baked Beans . I tasted the lovely sweet, tomato & smokey flavour & plain smash avocado. The substantial mixture was placed over the two toasts. We shared the lovely presented Chia Waffle which was tasty, light and generous.
We had the two tasty takeaway Join the Club sandwiches and apple & walnut cake slices. These slices had a lovely cinnamon, apple puree and walnut taste, moist and light consistency.
The total costs for two = $102.50.
This café had professional, attentive staff, prompt service, superior food quality & presentation, good sized meals & was relaxing. Prices were slightly high. For better value, add chips to meals. Yet, I will return.

Pros: Buffalo Sub - outstanding dish & food generally, Chia Waffle - generous & tasty, Great staff
Cons: Can be pricey, Chips added to sandwich/subs for better value, Side salad for subs to supplement price

Incredibly tasty! 😋 - Edit
I went with my friends for my birthday and honestly couldn’t have had a better experience. We sat outside and ordered bagels each then a waffle to share. My friends aren’t vegan and hadn’t tried any food like it before but they loved it!

Best vegan cafe in Sydney - Edit
They have a huge range on their menu which I really love! So whether I’m feeling like something more light/fresh or something more decadent/heart, their menu has me covered. Super friendly staff, great atmosphere and most of all incredible food. My favourite would have to be their salmon bagel! Highly recommend.

Satisfying sandwich - Edit
I ordered the Reuben (which I have been eyeing off for some time)- it was very tasty and exceeded my expectations! Vegan cheese and sauce combo was creamy, the vegan meat good and the pickles/sauerkraut added freshness. The choc chip cookie was also nice

Best Cooked Breakfast Ever - Edit
We came here for Breakfast and had the Shifty Breakfast and the Avocado on Toast - not even kidding, both were the BEST we’ve ever had - anywhere! Kind of blown away to be honest. Every element of both breakfasts was packed with flavour - especially the mushrooms and beans. Who knew you could pack so much flavour into them?

The go-to - Edit
The Shift Eatery is one of those places you always talk about and recommend to others. It’s definitely my go-to. There are plenty of options on the menu to suit either a dine-in or take away experience and the staff are always friendly and accommodating. James the owner is particularly friendly and helpful. The deli is also a massive plus- every visit you can guarantee I’m taking home some treats with me

Delicious and friendly - Edit
This cafe is great! So many options and the staff there are lovely. When I couldn't finish all of my sandwich the servers were more than happy to give me a wee bag to take it away and finish for dinner! Although the guy in charge (James I think is his name) was being a bit rude and abrupt to his staff. Maybe he is having an off day? Either way the 2 female servers I had today both with brown hair one with tattoos and one without, you guys rock and made the visit very enjoyable! The green machine smoothie was light and refreshing exactly what I needed to start the day! The steve sandwich was delicious! Nailed the flavours and its so filling!

great inner-city eatery - Edit
Tried and would recommend the “join the club”, the “Rueben” and the waffles. All of the meat across the sandwiches seemed to be the same housemade seitan deli slice (except the chicken on the club), which was the only thing it would have been good to see some diversity in. Otherwise, tasty as hell. Great coffee.

Vegan Sandwich Galore - Edit
As a Japanese chef, author and founder of Eastern Suburbs cooking school 'Cooking With Yoshiko', I'm usually eating a lot of Japanese food. I really wanted to venture out and try a sandwich from Shift Eatery, as this is not usually something I eat.
Read moreShift Eatery's bread was beautiful sourdough - better for the gut than most breads. My fellow diner and I enjoyed the Reuben's Vegan Brother Steve sandwich and the Ham and Cheese Toastie. They were both great and did not taste overly unhealthy, nor did they lack flavour. We also enjoyed the banana salted caramel smoothie, which was made from a natural date caramel and tasted very clean and refreshing. It is nothing crazy but if you're ever around the area and want a vegan sandwich that isn't just salad, this is the perfect place to go!
