Best boiled eggs!

Definetly worth a visit! We had two dishes with the famous boiled eggs and a french toast with fruits. All was very good! Very good coffee too!

Exceptional

Very friendly staff. Girlfriend had a great tofu Cesar salad. I had their egg and sausage patty in a pretzel roll. Their award winning egg was exceptional. Great bakery options to take away including the best vegan brownie I have ever had

Pros: Staff, Faux Egg, Bakery items

Delicious Vegan Food

Healthy but delicious vegan food. My favourite thing are the waffles. I like how the menu is seasonal too.
Also the chai latte is the best I’ve ever had anywhere so definitely order that (but get a large - the small is so small)

It is getting more expensive here (they did use to do 4 waffles slices and now it’s only 3 for a more expensive price)

Pros: Delicious, Great atmosphere, Waffles!!

Cons: A bit expensive

Hi Zara,

Thank you so much for leaving this lovely review! So happy that you noticed our seasonality and the lovely chai which we make in house fresh - it makes so much difference to the flavour.

Like all hospitality businesses right now we have had to put our prices up (everyone has had to to be able to afford to keep going) as we will never compromise our values as a 100% vegan cafe. We run on green energy, make everything from scratch which means we can employ more people instead of relying on mass made frozen bought in alternatives made with fillers, preservatives and ingredients that we don't agree with, we make everything fresh from scratch in house daily - this means more money in wages, but we would 100% rather be behind people and planet, than big corp & greed - the only way we can afford to do this is put prices up. This entire supportive ethos is the reason that Sacred Grounds exists😄a plant based hub of food creativity that supports families and provides a healthy place for people to dine, we know we aren't an every day cafe for all, but we are here for special occasions and a wonderful treat for your body and soul, quality time with good food and connection - an experience.

In terms of the waffles - we only ever served four waffles per portion on our opening week six years ago, times have definitely changed since then in terms of the costs of running a business, we were also fresh into the business and of course you learn and adapt to keep going and improve - we stopped the four waffles after just one week as their was so much waste from too much food on a plate, maybe you visited us on that week? We're always happy to add an extra waffle to your plate though - please just ask us😄

Thank you so much for your continued support, it really does mean so much that we can continue to make gorgeous and nutritious food in our cafe :)

Nice food but I think expensive

Very nice food in a lovely location. I had the Scared Royale which tasted nice but not sure it £16 worth as was left wanting more. Will come back and try the waffles next time though.

Pros: Location , Friendly staff

Cons: Price

Hello!

Thank you so much for taking the time to review us. So glad that you loved the food, the location and our brilliant team.

This dish - the Royale - we think a bit of a masterpiece, our prices don't reflect quantity, but they do reflect quality, care and skill that is poured into our creations. We hand make each element of each dish, which is reflected in the price - for this dish we in-house smoke marinated carrots over oak chips, create our own vegan caviar, hand craft our award winning eggs and create our own vegan hollandaise all from good fresh ingredients which takes time, we create our own balsamic and every element is made fresh by us in house (as always) that's why it tastes so good, we will never cut corners in this way, we stand by our ethos and we just hope that people will continue to support us when they can and enjoy the experience we have created to showcase amazing handmade 100% vegan food!

We hope to see you again in the future! the waffles are always outstanding! All the very best, SG

Super tasty brunch & epic pancakes!

It was our first time visiting today and we’re so glad we did! The food is AMAZING! The rhubarb pancakes had so many different flavours, which combined, were just perfect. My boyf had the Big Ben brunch and he said the ‘eggs’ were really tasty and like nothing he’s eaten before. We would love to attend the supper evenings so will look out for details of those!

Pros: Super tasty flavoursome food ~ epic pancakes!, Cool aesthetics and vibe, Really friendly staff

Amazing

Everything here was perfect, the food, the drinks, the vibe and decor. I had the sacred Benedict and the vegan egg is unworldly along with the rest of the dish. Being able to see the chefs making the food is great as well. They also have some lovely homemade cakes including a Jaffa cake! And some really cool mugs & cups to buy too. Can’t wait to come back!

Pros: The food - specially the vegan egg!, The vibe/decor, Lots of amazing options and it’s fully vegan

Cons: Wish it was closer to my house!

Nice place

This café is inside an arcade off Fore Street, which makes for a lovely location and nice interior. The menu is great and the food I had was nice, although it didn’t quite live up to my expectations. I also found it to be on the more expensive end.

Pros: Great vegan menu, Lovely café, Several GF options

Cons: Bit expensive , Closes early

Lovely brunch

We both enjoyed the ‘smoky beans’ brunch/breakfast and we each had the mineralist smoothie. Also shared a coffee walnut cake and we each had an oat cortado. Presentation really good and food was tasty. Coffee was bitter and strong, but nice once I added some sugar. However, it was just shy of £49 so not the cheapest for breakfast or brunch. But great that it’s fully vegan and dishes are innovative. The vegan “egg” seems a popular choice and I believe it’s made from tofu (it’s also won an award!).

Pros: Fully vegan, Freshly prepared

Cons: Expensive

Incredible vegan poached egg

I don’t know how they make their vegan poached egg but it’s incredible, as is the hollandaise sauce that comes with it. Portions are a bit small unfortunately.

Pros: Vegan egg, Great coffee

Cons: Portion sizes

Incredible brunch food

I've been to this place many times and it never misses! There's a seasonal menu with incredible waffles and lots of other brunch options. A great place for vegans and non vegans alike. Also a great variety of drinks, with really good coffee, chai lattes, and hot chocolate. Cannot recommend more!

I could order almost anything!

They told me they could make almost anything on the menu gluten free, so I had lots of options! I ended up ordering the Benedict, which they put on their gluten free waffle vs toast. I enjoyed it and would love to try the Tuscan beans as well next time! I got a gluten free chocolate brownie as well!

Pros: Vegan poached eggs!, Gluten free options

Great honest food!

Great place inside, fab vibe!
Very friendly staff, relatively quick freshly prepared food! I’ve enjoyed carrot soup with aubergine ‚bacon‘, my family had Royale poached eggs, avocado sandwich & waffles! 5 stars! Delicious!
Then we had lattes- beetroot & matcha are my favourite 🤩 Worth going while in Exeter! Will be back 👍

Pros: Great location , Prepared food ( no junk ), Quickly prepared

Cons: Slightly pricey

Lovely Healthy Food

I love this place! They have tofu "eggs" and delicious coffee, sourdough toast and cakes. I would say the brunch food is why I go more than the cakes, but these are still delicious!! Highly recommended!

Sacred Grounds

Visiting Exeter I could not miss this place out and not try the vegan poached egg! It’s not everyday you see that on the menu, so I went with the Sacred Benedict and it was delicious. The vegan poached egg reminded me of how I remembered it tasting before I went vegan and the texture was spot on. The coffee was really good quality too. This place does get busy and there was no space to sit inside. It is in a pretty covered arcade though that has tables and chairs to sit at, but it does get very chilly in winter. Book a table or bring a decent coat! Venue is dog friendly. Staff were lovely and welcoming. 100% will return some day.
