Best vegan Italian I’ve had - Edit
Everything was incredible and so flavourful, we had the meat and cheese tater board, carbonara and tiramisu. If you’re in time the carbonara is a must, never have I tasted one so like the original.

We could not recommend Rifugio more. Their selection of vegan dishes is huge and varied and every dish we ordered was delicious. We changed our plans to go back for a second time because the food was too good to miss! The vegan cacio e pepe was insanely good and also the vegan profiteroles! But everything we ate was fantastic and it’s really good value for money. Make sure to book in advance as it fills up really quickly. A must visit in Rome!

This was the first place we stopped on our trip to Italy in Rome. WOW! This set the bar high right from the start. They have a ton of Vegan options and the Carbonara and Pizza were incredible! I just wish we had more time to eat here more than just once! It was THAT good!

Lovely little place for tons of vegan options of Italian classics, I went for the carbonara which was a little thick but still tasty, but would opt for something else another time. The arancini ball starter was amazing though! Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Expensive and did get busy so make a reservation!

They have a huge selection of dishes - pretty much everything on the menu has a vegan version. Pastas, pizzas, calzones, risottos, etc. Its a little pricy but incredibly delicious.

Best food all holiday - Edit
My non vegan friends and I stayed in a hotel near this restaurant and booked a table for our last night. Everyone loved the food, one of my omni friends tasted my cannelloni and tirimisu and actually said she preferred mine to her non vegan version. I would eat here every day for the rest of my life if I could 😂
Read moreThe only cons are that the menu is a little confusing and they are so busy that the staff are rushed and forgot drinks and confused the border up a little (we all ended up with vegan starters instead of it being just mine - although everyone commented how delicious they were, so I am calling that a win).

Amazing Tiramisu - Edit
I went to Italy with an omnivore friend, and this restaurant was wonderful for both of us. The vegan options are clearly labeled and the staff are knowledgeable about what is and is not vegan friendly. Delicious, authentic food that allowed me to enjoy dining in Italy worry free. I still think of this restaurant years later due to the wonderful food and experience!
Read moreThere was a vegan and non vegan Tiramisu, and we both got one option so my omnivore friend could compare the two. She stated there was almost no difference between the two, and that the vegan option was wonderful. Good option to show omnivore friends that they can have all the flavor with none of the cruelty :)

Hit and miss - Edit
I went with my (non-vegan) partner but we both opted for vegan pasta dishes. My ravioli was surprisingly tasteless but his rigatoni with cheese and seitan was absolutely delicious. Luckily, the portion was big enough to fill both of us as we'd had a lot of gelato (elsewhere) a few hours earlier. I also ordered a salad which was tasty, though I didn't need it. They don't dress their salad but do give you olive oil and balsamic. I'm just disappointed I had no room left for tiramasu. Staff were nice enough but it was very busy so service was a little slow and they needed reminded about our drink order (though not enough to be an issue). Edit: Despite the issues, we went back to try the carbonara and tiramasu and the desert is definitely worth it. The carbonara and lemon- mint spaghetti were also good.

Era da tanto che volevo andare in questo ristorante. Finalmente siamo riusciti a prenotare per la cena (prenotare è obbligatorio perché è sempre pienissimo!). Abbiamo mangiato l'Antipasto del rifugio vegano ed era tutto buonissimo. Supplì, seppioline di pizza fritte, hummus con verdure crude, mayonese e tofu marinato. Il mio ragazzo non è vegano, ma ha apprezzato tutto, tranne il tofu di cui non ama proprio la consistenza, ma di sapore ha detto che era molto buono.

Anche il mio ragazzo ha apprezzato molto e il che è tutto dire da un amante della carne come lui. Ha detto che vuole tornare un altra volta per provare i primi e io devo dire che sono più curiosa di lui!
Un quartino di vino e una bottiglia d'acqua e il conto è venuto 49 euro.
Siamo stati benissimo e non vedo l'ora di tornare in questo ristorante davvero inclusivo!

This restaurant is popular so booking is essential! Friendly staff but as we were tucked around a corner the initial service was slow. The food though was incredible! It was great to have vegan versions of classic Italian dishes whilst on holiday in Italy. Vegan arancini, carbonara, cacio e pepe, ravioli can all be recommended.

Era da tempo che volevo provare le specialità di "Rifugio Romano" e devo dire che sono andate ben oltre le mie aspettative. La maggioranza sono versioni vegan di piatti tipici della cucina romana. La carbonara veg è semplicemente strepitosa. Ho provato un tiramisù alle fragole goduriosissimo e la panna cotta con nutella, sempre in versione vegan. Complimenti allo chef Davide Leo! Consiglio prenotare con qualche giorno di anticipo perché è sempre pienissimo
