The Poppa Don

It is a categorical truth that in Dubai, and the UAE as a whole, you can get some truly amazing, authentic Indian cuisine. That being said, there is most assuredly still a time and place for the less traditional, sometimes (wrongly) maligned, British-inspired variant. I’m sure it’s sacrilegious to some, but to me, it’s fayre that smacks of nostalgia and comfort.
So imagine my joy to find this particular spot that blends the two worlds seamlessly. With numerous, clearly labelled dishes to choose from, as well as many others that can be tailored to suit plant-based requirements, I didn’t hold back in ordering all and sundry – and I was richly rewarded for my reckless abandon.
Across the board, each and every dish provided a deep level of not only hearty satisfaction but also a wonderful array of flavours and textures – even the chips delivered in terms of delivering that unique essence of what a takeaway should do. Though, as good as these were, I’m not going to purport that they were the pinnacle of my feast. As alluded to, the top spot was hotly contested – fabulous onion bhajis, incredible cauliflower pakoras and a sumptuous tofu Matar Bhuna saw to that – but the eventual triumphant offering was the tofu Ceylon. Sweet, creamy and with a beautiful spice blend, it was practically impossible for me not to inhale it in no time flat.
This was a superb inaugural foray into what this restaurant has to offer, awash with excellence, and now that I have made my introductions, I’m looking forward to becoming more well acquainted with it in the future.
