Great Osakan Cuisine - Edit
Really great Osakan cuisine! One of the troubles of being vegan in Japan is the lack of options and as lovely as some of the other vegan restaurants we tried were, they had lots of burgers and not as much “traditional” cuisine. Having just had a tour guide tell us about all this traditional Osakan food that we couldn’t eat, we found out that pretty much all of it was served here! Can’t speak highly enough of it, so nice to not have to miss out on any of the culinary culture just because we’re vegan! Also has really friendly staff who speak great English and an easy to use online order/menu system in English!

I went to Pivot with my family and... OM-SQUEE IT WAS SO GOODDDDDDDDD, we all shared a chicken cutlet, vegan gyoza, curry rice, french fries, standard takoyaki, maipo eggplant, and salted bread. The chicken cutlet was so good that we ordered 2 more servings. Next the vegan gyoza, it was perfect if you tried the soy sauce and red chili oil on top. Then we tried the curry rice and it was SOOOOO delicious 😋. The French fries were crispy on the outside and soft like a pillow on the inside. Next the takoyaki which I ordered, it was so good it was hard to believe it was vegan. All the workers were so kind🩷

Thank you very much for visiting our restaurant. We truly appreciate you putting into words what we have strived to achieve! We learned that some tourists visiting Japan are unable to fully enjoy their meals due to dietary restrictions. With this in mind, we opened our restaurant in the popular Dotonbori area of Osaka as a place where everyone can enjoy traditional Osaka cuisine. We are delighted that so many guests have already visited us.

Vegan place in the heart of Dontonbori - Edit
Great place with traditional Osakan food made vegan. Right in Dontonbori, the location is really great however be mindful that they are “victim” of their own success and you might have to wait a bit for a table at dinner time. Would advice to get there early! Also if you have a party larger than 4, i’m not sure you’d be able to sit together, might have to split.

Fair - Edit
Most staff speak both Japanese and English. Went there twice. First time, was able to only find one meal that was filling FOR ME. But it was good and I could barely finish it. When I tried to go the second time, I saw they closed at 11pm and it was 2pm when I got there and they told me their kitchen was closed. Best to call I guess before going in just in case. Place is in a big foot traffic area

Good food - Edit
Convenient option if you're after something to eat around dotonbori, as there's not a lot else in this area that's open late. The staff were super nice, the food was good, but nothing outstanding. The yakisoba was definitely the stand out from what we ordered.

Traditional vegan Osaka food in Dotonbori - Edit
Very centrally located on the busiest street in Dotonbori. There was a very long line and wait time when I went around 8:30pm on a weekday in April. Once we were seated, the food arrived quickly. The tonkotsu ramen was flavorful, however they only provided a meager portion of vegan meat on it (like two tiny pieces...). It's a bit pricey but that's to be expected for a touristy area. Please note they only take cashless payment.

Great location + vegan food - Edit
The food was mostly tasty and good value, although we were accidentally sent a couple of extra things e.g. gyoza and yakisoba (given to us free of charge which was kind) and the seating felt a bit lunch canteen and we were tucked in a corner where it never felt that relaxing or ambient and the noodles seemed a bit greasy/oily.
Read moreNevertheless, the food was largely great and substantial at a good price so it is a great stop if looking for a nearby vegan place that does the job!
We queued for 20 minutes but it was worth the wait. Not our favourite vegan meal in Japan (out of 6) but we appreciate the difficulty sometimes to find vegan food and the effort it takes to generate their extensive menu and have a great location so overall it gets 4* for us.
Pros: Location, Vegan food, Price
Cons: Queue, Ambience, Oily food

Amazing food - Edit
We had the tonkotsu ramen, mapo tofu and takoyaki and were absolutely blown away by each dish. Everything was absolutely delicious and our only issues was deciding on what to get. Everything looked so amazing on the menu! The staff were very friendly and offered an English menu.

Venue
Read moreRight off the road. Can’t miss it. I think there’s 10 tables inside with 4 stools each. 1 table with a corner sofa to sit at. 7 stools at the bar. About the same amount at a counter top opposite the bar too. Modern design. 4 big TVs on the wall linked to show as 1 BIG screen with a looping advert for a local attraction. Plus another 4 big TVs displaying the menu and various videos.
Service
I was welcomed in. Advised that it was card only (which is on a sign on the door anyway) and given three menus & told to scan a QR code to make my order when I’m ready. My beer arrived instantly. My cutlet 10mins later. My gyoza another 10-15mins after that.
Food
The takoyaki & kushikatsu was completely sold out at 20:30. Wasn’t feeling like ramen so I went for plant based meat cutlet & gyoza with a big beer. The cutlet was pretty plain even with loads of soy sauce all over it. The gyoza didn’t look like they’d been cooked too long and were a bit floppy. The beer was alright. I can only assume the takoyaki & kushikatsu are amazing which got all the 5* reviews…
Price
3000jpy for 2 plant based meat cutlet, 6 gyoza & a big daddy draft beer (1l/1000ml I believe) which is lower on the value scale than most places I’ve visited.

The vegan takoyaki is really good (although I don't have any experience to compare to the non vegan version), would definitely recommend getting this as a side/sharing plate.

Safe bet at Dotonbori - Edit
In a area surrounded by takoyaki, karaage and other non-vegetarian/vegan food, this restaurant stands out as an oasis for vegans.
Read moreThe staff we interacted with spoke fluent English, and the music would be very familiar to western audiences. There are also a lot of screens rotating through a series of ads.
The food itself was tasty. We tried the limited edition sushi, which was good, but not as good as those offered at Shojin Sushi Minamo. As we never tried takoyaki before, we really didn't have a basis for comparison, but it was good nonetheless. The spicy ramen on offer was good - not extremely spicy but it packed a kick. We also tried the sweet potato pudding - it was okay but nothing to write home about.

The only Option - Edit
When you‘re in Dotombori District you don‘t have many options as a vegan. The prices are fair, but the service was for Japanese standards unexpected bad. We waited very long, some dishes we ordered weren’t available (which they told us 30 mins later), some dishes didn’t match the discription (f.e. the soy milk mayonnaise was missing) and the food was “okay”. The vegan Ramen were pretty good, we wouldn’t recommend the vegan Takoyaki.

Good intro to Kansai staples - Edit
I tried the takoyaki and yakisoba on my first full day in Osaka. They were filling and satisfying! The honey sweet potato pudding (doesn't actually contain honey) made by Mercy Vegan Factory was also delicious. The lunch menu seems fairly limited compared to the dinner options. I'll have to return later in the day to try more of their offerings, like kushikatsu. Very accommodating to English speakers. Free wifi available. Restrooms are somewhere outside of the restaurant, but I didn't go looking for them.
