Hidden gem - Edit
I've lived in Sydney for over six months and now nine years later I find this lovely hidden gem whilst on vacation here. The service is amazing. We ordered take out and got a free cup of Jasmin tea to drink while we were waiting.
Read moreThe food was full of flavour and a good portion. Not too much so we would have food waste but enough to feel nice and full. There was a lot of choice and the inside of the restaurant looked very cozy. I only saw smiling faces from the other customers.
Pros: Great food, Free pot of Jasmin tea, Lovely staff

Lovely bun - Edit
Stopped in for a snack. Had a bao bun which was lovely and filled with love. We also tried this sampler which had a spring roll and some bites of their proteins. If we had more time in Sydney, we'd go back for a proper meal for sure.

Mixed bag but when it’s good it’s SO GOOD - Edit
Firstly, shout out to the warm, lovely service - was like being welcomed into somebodies home.
Read moreOrdered a variety of dishes and it was all fair to middling, except the stir fried champing konyaku & soy pastry which was downright delicious. If I lived closer I’d eat it all the time.
Based on this being on the recommended dishes menu, I’d pick exclusively from there next time.

Ordered dinner on Uber eats. I liked the mushroom tofu and steamed rice. Dim sim and wonton soup were a bit too potato filled. Overall it was a good meal

I can tell from the first photo I posted of Mother Chu's that it's been over 10 years since I last ate here. So long ago that I still used filters on my photos! It hasn't changed a bit since then and probably not in the decades proceeding either. It reminds me of White Lotus on Victoria Street (RIP). A small restaurant with a simple interior, always full of chatty, hungry vegans.
Read moreWe started with a barbecue bun each, perfectly steamed and fluffy, filled with sweet and savoury gluten chunks. Followed by sweet and sour gluten with rich, tangy tomato sauce. The balls of gluten were tender and "meaty" on the inside and crisp on the outside and held their structural integrity while soaking in the sauce, just as they should!
On the side we went for some simple stir fried green veggies that were perfectly done. I'm pretty sure they don't use onion or garlic here, which was a nice change, as the nutty roasted sesame oil flavour on the veggies came through. Accompanied by fresh ginger tea, this was a satisfying, comforting, nostalgic meal.

Casual dining experience - Edit
Casual Vegetarian restaurant, which doesn't use dairy or eggs. But there is honey is some dishes. We ate here for my sons birthday whilst in Sydney. Lovely staff. The food was delicious. Portions were generous. So so much to choose from though! Menu was quite overwhelming and some descriptions weren't the best. We ordered noodles with grated tofu and vegetables. What actually came was noodles with like a spaghetti bolognese type meat sauce on top with pak choi. It was nice but totally not what we expected to arrive!

Tasty Chinese vegan food - Edit
We’ve been coming to Mother Chu’s for years now (we live locally) and it’s always a great dining experience. Tonight we had the steamed dim sims for the entrée, followed by the golden mushroom and soy sheet roulades in black pepper sauce. Both were really good – the food is cooked fresh. We love the wide range of dishes, the friendly staff and the beautiful Chinese calligraphy on the walls. Highly recommended for vegans, vegetarians and omnivores alike!
