Soooo yummy and lots of variations!! Best sushi I’ve ever had to be honest. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I like the atmosphere as well. I’ve been here many times and it’s always been delicious!

Full vegan sushi restaurant, includes soups, sushi, green tea options, some beer and wine. Extremely helpful staff, pleasant atmosphere, great prices. Living near by, I stop by often and try everything. It is all amazing. Even when I am not sure what I ordered ( the menu is all in German) I have never been anything but thrilled with the food here.

True story: once I stayed in Japan in a five star hotel. The hotel had its own sushi restaurant and as a hotel guest I went to this in-house restaurant. Of course I was welcomed as a valued guest and everyone was ever so kind. But when I asked for vegetarian sushi the staff was insulted and actually threw me out. How dare I asked for something like vegetarian sushi!
Read moreSo when I saw "MakiMaki Green Sushi" on Happy Cow, I had to give it a try. "MakiMaki Green Sushi" is about a 10 minute walk from the centre of Cologne, but once you're there it's a warm welcome. It says "The first vegan sushi bar in Cologne" on the window, so I was pretty sure I would not be thrown out this time.
The staff speaks both English and German, but the menu is only in German. However, with pictures, English titles (but German descriptions) and the help of the personnel it's easy to make a choice.
I went for the "bento deluxe" which consists of tea, miso soup and 14 pieces of sushi. The soup was very good and because fresh vegetables were added at the last moment (and not cooked with the soup), it had an even better taste than standard Japanese miso soup.
The sushi is creative, sometimes even daring and always tasty. There's simple, elegant yet surprising beat-sushi as well as more complicated sushi with more than 8 ingredients. Everything was tasty and the quality of the ingredients seems to be very good. Compared to true Japanese sushi (no one of the staff is Japanese or has ever been trained by a Japanese chef) there's less rice and more vegetable. Therefore it's not a vegan version of Japanese sushi, but rather a unique creation by MakiMaki Green Sushi. And I enjoyed every single bite of it!
When I told them how far I travelled to get there, I received "Sweet Geisha Love" as a free side dish. Although I was already quite stuffed after eating the lunch menu, the rather complicated "Sweet Geisha Love" proved to be even more tasty than my main dish.
Since I don't know how to say "tasty" in German, I'll say it in Japanese: Oishi!
Pros: generous portions, fair price, great taste

Amazing sushi place - Edit
We went to this vegan sushi restaurant when we visited Cologne and it surpassed our expectations. I recommend the ones you can order individually rather than the specials. We ended up chatting with the owner who is very passionate about veganism and told us his story. He was incredibly nice and welcoming to us, and made it an experience I will never forget.

I have always been a fan of sushi. Also back in the days when I used to eat fish. I have however never had a better sushi eating experience than by MakiMaki Sushi. I love this place and keep coming back! It's very stylish inside, the prices are definitely fair for such beautiful food (and sushi is generally more expensive than other food) and the food is really delicious. The only thing I would wish for is a roll with sour plum sauce, less sweet stuff in the rolls in general.

Creative and delicious sushi! - Edit
If someone tells you that good sushi can't be vegan, show them this place! Unlike other restaurants that only offer you a simple avocado or cucumber maki, this place has all the combinations you can possibly dream of! For me it was hard to make a decision so I I took the mixed box and 3 of the special makis. All of them were very good but I would highly recommend to try the bigdaddy and geisha versions because they really stand out and are a extraordinary taste experience! The staff is very nice and friendly and I really enjoyed my visit there! Keep in mind that everything here is freshly made, Sushi is slow food, and on a busy evening you might have to wait for 3/4h. Still, absolutely worth it!

Very interesting sushi combinations! Went there with three non-vegans and they missed nothing, especially since the taste was so different from normal sushi. They only have chopsticks (or at least had, when we were there, as far as I remember), but they have the ones for kids for people who can't use them (yet). Staff was very friendly and it did not take long for our food to arrive.

This place is da bomb! The Sushi rolls and Makis are amazingly creative, beautifully arranged, fresh and tasty. The place itself is very welcoming and clean.
The service is a little dreamy still, but it doesn't take away from my 5 stars, because it's just too good. 😊

My boyfriend and I practically tried one of everything on the menu. Everything was so good, you could taste all the flavors in every bite of sushi. The kimchi was also so good. While we were there we had to keep reminding ourselves that we were at a fully vegan restaurant. The atmosphere was great, the service, and the food was unreal. We loved it. The prices were expensive, but matched the craftsmanship that went into every piece of sushi, and matched prices of non-vegan sushi restaurants. 10/10.

A new place in Cologne with a innovative sushi style. All the dishes are stylishly presented and very tasteful. The staff is friendly and the location is ok. We ordered two different soups and both were a but disappointing. The miso was very bland and the Korean style kimchi soup was nothing like the photo on the menu. There is room for improvement but we will certainly give this place a second and third chance due to the excellent sushi / maki.

This place serves very creative, tasty sushi in a casual atmosphere. This place is the really really impressive. Its not the cheapest place but we love the excellent food and service. Not always open at lunch - check the hours.

The vegan Sushi Place in Cologne! - Edit
Amazing food, well prepared, nice staff, really cozy and comfy atmosphere. The prices equal those of a usual sushi place and the selection is supreme. Talked to the chef and he even orders the capsicum from his hometown in Bulgaria himself, cause he prefers them to the organic ones he can only seem to find here.
