Disappointing - Edit
I’m so sad that this fell short as I was excited to go to a traditional vegan French restaurant in Paris and they obviously try quite hard, but the food was not what I expected. I had the bourguignon which was pretty tasteless. Unfortunately the three of us couldn’t finish even one plate of food between us.

Loved this traditional French restaurant. So glad I found it. I had french onion soup, seitan stew and crème brûlée. It was lovely to have a fully vegan restaurant serving traditional French food and I loved how cosy the restaurant was.

The food was very tasty. We had a starter, main dish and dessert and everything was very delicious. The staff was very friendly. Food was prepared very quickly! We were very pleased to have the opportunity to taste traditional French cuisine without meat and dairy products. Simply great!

Authentic French food and all vegan! We had the French Onion Soup which was DIVINE! Plus the Seitan special of the day with potato gratin and the Buckwheat Pancake. Such a treat to have French cuisine and all vegan! Both English and French menus.

Just amazing - Edit
One of the best restaurants I've been in the world.
Read moreSo many choices (everything is vegan), from the finest French cuisine.
I had the walnut seitan roast and green pepper cognac sauce: incredible. It comes with potatoes (in a way of "gratin dauphinois") and some kind of braised leek in cream, amazing.
And the mushrooms pâté with red wine, which was perfect too.
Pros: So incredibly good! , 100% vegan, Traditional French cuisine

Cuisine traditionnelle et savoureuse. - Edit

I loved that Le Potager du Marais serves an authentic French experience. The dishes, the reservations, the work hours, the staff. I absolutely lived my Emily in Paris fantasy in a vegan version.

So disappointed - Edit
I was really hoping to like this place, having had such bad experiences with vegetarian and vegan food in France before. However, the dish we had was tasteless sludge with no texture or colour. It was like being in a time warp back to the bad old days in the UK when no one really knew how to cook veggie and thought it involved over cooked lentils with a few bits or tofu or some terrible meat substitute. Vegan food really doesn’t have to be this way. I suggest the chefs try the recipes of Meera Sodha or Yotam Ottolenghi to see how good it can be when well cooked, well flavoured vegetables are put front and centre.

Classic Vegan French Cuisine - Edit
This is the perfect place if you want a flavour of France. We had pea soup and french onion soup which were both devine.
Read moreI can't remember the names of our mains but one of them was a seitan dish and the other a white stew (the waiter told me this was a classic french dish)
The waiter was super helpful. Water was served to the table and replaced without even having to ask which I really appreciated.
Lovely experience.

Fantastic but expensive - Edit
The food, atmosphere and staff are great, definitely a must if you're looking for a good take on comforting French cusine. But as many others have said, it's sadly too expensive. Not eye-watering but not really competitive given how many good vegan places there are in Paris these days.

Tasty, but not classic - Edit
I was very excited to visit Le Potager du Marais, because a lot of French cuisine isn't vegetarian friendly, and this place billed itself as "traditional French cuisine." They do indeed have a number of tasty dishes modeled on French cuisine...but they're not very traditional.
Read moreThe French onion soup was excellent - definitely don't miss it. The seitan bourguignon, though, which I was really looking forward to, didn't resemble a boeuf bourguignon at all. The gravy didn't seem to have red wine, but seemed perhaps more onion based, more like a brown gravy. It was also not as thick and hearty as I would have expected. I was there with a French friend who is vegetarian herself, and she said it just didn't seem like boeuf bourguignon. So while it was indeed quite tasty, it didn't feel very "traditional," and I was disappointed as that's what I was there for. My friend had the soy blanquette and felt it was also tasty but not traditional.
I would say you should definitely visit the restaurant as the food is really good, but make sure you have your expectations set before you go in.
Pros: good food
Cons: not as traditional as they say

Great food - too expensive - Edit
The food was very delicious. If you go, the French onion soup is a must! The menu is seasonal so certain things that you’ve seen on the internet may not be available at the restaurant. However, the prices are on the expensive side. A dinner for two people could run you down to 80€-90€ (3 appetizers, 2 mains, 2 drinks). Overall, the experience is not worth the money because even though the vibe of the restaurant is not a high end, the prices kinda are. However, would still recommend to go if you can afford it, or to go even if that’s just to try the onion soup (13ish euros per bowl).

Decent food - Edit
It was nice to try some French cuisine. The restaurant was kind of crowded though. The food was nice, but not worth the price in my opinion. The chocolate milk was too thick for my taste. The desserts were fine, but nothing special. I would definitely recommend the onion soup though.

Delicious French cuisine - Edit
This place is a classic. I was a vegetarian vegetarian for a long time before going vegan and while Paris now has lots of options, this place was a great save in an era when it was very difficult to find vegetarian food outside of Indian and Mid Eastern restaurants. Now they are vegan, even better, and offer great dishes and desserts. My favourite is absolutely the French onion soup.

Pretty Good Vegan French Food - Edit
The French onion soup was delicious. We weren’t a fan of the desserts as much. At our table we tried both the crème brûlée and the berry crumble and neither were very exciting. Would eat there again for dinner, but probably not dessert

Some stand outs - Edit
The French onion soup was incredible and really was the star of the show! We then had the seitan bourginon which was pleasant but nothing standout and the seitan texture was a little odd. The potato on top was really lovely however! Finally, we had the creme brûlée which was delicious but unfortunately a bit cold. The service was slow but pleasant. Definitely make a reservation!
