Good but expensive - Edit
Fast & friendly service, but expensive for lunch. Price vs. portion not equal (120:- for a moderate portion). If you’re not really so hungry and want to get in and out quickly, it’s an acceptable option. A bit too expensive for lunch. Ingredients appeared to be canned or frozen.

Lao Wai state all ingredients are cooked from fresh (exception being some dried mushrooms). This is one of my favourite places to eat in Stockholm and all food has seemed to me to be fresh and expertly cooked. I have never considered that they would lie about this.

Good place - Edit
There is only one option for lunch and it is written in Swedish only. Staff is not friendly, their attitude is take it or leave it without explaining too much how it works. Had to google it what am I going to have. Food was tasty on the spicy side and a bit bland on a non spicy side of the dish.

Freshly cooked good quality food - Edit
The restaurant is small, simple and clean. The staff are very professional and friendly. We had 2 dishes and shared - both were delicious. Initially I found 90 krona expensive for tea... but after tasting it I understand! Great restaurant, highly recommended.

Tasty! - Edit
I came in on a Monday and got rice, Asian vege and noodles. They have a set lunch menu throughout the week, which makes the decision what to eat simple😄The food was very tasty, service was kind and quick and the place has a nice ambient. Space is a little tight but there's a quick turnover of customers.

Very authentic and tasty Chinese food. The ingredients tasted very fresh. Bit expensive average main 220 korona ..would have felt more comfortable paying that much if interior was that of fine dining restaurants.

Always good to come here. The food is excellent and the atmosphere rustic. It’s a hidden gem on a small street parallel to Sveavägen.

Without a doubt the best option for vegan food that fills you up and tastes great. Relatively small but the friendly staff and athmosphere more than makes up for the small space.

Still up to par and worth a visit - Edit
My expectations were very high having heard and read great things about Lao Wai. One of Stockholm's first and most popular vegan restaurants.
Read moreThe place is small and the interior is stripped back with wooden furniture and plain walls with photographs of scenes from the Sichuan province whose cuisine is the inspiration for many of the dishes.
My company and I were there on a Monday around 6 pm. The restaurant gradually started filling up until all the tables were occupied so it's advisable to book in advance by phone.
I opted for Fruits of the Sea which consisted of pak choi, vegan shrimp (soy protein), wakame seaweed, oyster mushrooms and soft tofu served in a ginger and spring onion bouillon/light sauce. The flavour was mild yet rich and interesting. My company chose no 24 on the menu which was; "Spicy Sichuan dish with smoked tofu, taro root, shiitake, chilies, baby corn, garlic shoots, snowpeas, and black beans." It was also tasty but we both agreed that the flavour wasn't perhaps as groundbreaking and inventive as that of the other dish.
We went all in and opted for the homemade ice cream. I couldn't resist the flavour pistachio-cardamom-bergamot. You could taste actual pistachio nuts and cardamom seeds and it was rich in flavour. The orange-ginger ice cream was also good but milder.
Do note that the alcohol is not all vegan, ask to be sure! I chose the vegan white wine to go with my dish which worked very well.
I look forward to trying more dishes on the menu. As the a la carte menu is rather pricey, I'm aiming to try the lunch options although I've heard that it's difficult to get a table!
Highly recommend a visit to Lao Wai. The food is well-thought out and excellently presented with interesting flavours and high quality.
Pros: Good quality, interesting, great flavours, knowledgeable staff, Focus is on the food
Cons: Must book in advance, small restaurant, one waiter was working all the tables, quite expensive

What a surprise! - Edit
It's difficult to describe how the food tastes like. It's like an Asian fusion, really tasty and good. Quite spicy as well! The place is small so it's good to consider booking a table. I've read that the prices are high, but I must say that the portions are quite big. We were two people and had two starters and a main dish. It was a lot of food anyway! The restaurant it's easy to find close to a metro stop.

Nice food, good portion - Edit
The food was nice, though a bit on the salty side. Portion sizes are big, and main dishes came with rice. I understand this is Stockholm yet I still find it a bit overpriced compared to other nice vegan restaurants in the city. Good for when you want some Chinese food!

Excellent Little Restaurant - Edit
I absolutely love Lao Wai. My dad and I were staying in Stockholm for a few days and decided to try the restaurant out as it is fully vegan. I've never really eaten traditional Chinese foods nor dined in the same way, and the experience was really great. The first time we went we got two dishes and found we ate too much, so when we went back the second time we just got one dish between us. We got different foods each time, one soy protein dish and two tofu ones. My dad is very strongly non-vegan, but even he was more than happy to go back a second time. The waiter was different each time, but both were so friendly, polite and helpful. I wish we could've stayed in the city longer so I could have tried some more of their dishes, because they were so tasty. The only thing I could say "bad" about it was that it was so small, but it had a really cosy vibe, so while we almost didn't get a table, it isn't really anything that would stop me from giving this place a five-star rating.

N°1 - Edit
Honestly the best vegan restaurant possibly in the world. Can't say I've been to them all but I've been to a fair few and this is the top of the list for me. Traditional Chinese cuisine to perfection, but also a traditional Chinese dining experience itself. Life changing from the first bite. The thing they serve for lunch isn't bad either.

A tiny oasis - Edit
This tiny restaurant boasts (in my humble opinion) the best vegan cuisine in Stockholm. It Specializes in vegetarian food inspirerad by traditional Sichuan and Taiwanese dishes. Their kitchen is free of msg, egg and milk products. Make sure to book a table if you're in town.
