Classic! - Edit
Wow, I can't believe I had yet to review this place! I must have visited it well over 40 times, on my own or with others, and everyone has always been fully satisfied. There are particularities about Lao Wai, some of which could be found to be positive or negative. For starters, it's a tiny place, so please do book in advance. If visiting them for lunch, make sure you turn up no later than 1:30 PM, as they may have run out of food otherwise. Staff (same waiter for well over 10 years) are attentive and efficient, though not overly friendly. Same goes for the owner, who recently put up a note stating Lao Wai is not on Facebook, they don't tweet, they have no blog.. Conformists? I dunno, but I personally do appreciate this willingness to stick to what they are known for (including accepting cash), as opposed to trying to expand, jumping on the bandwagon or being "out there" more than necessary.
Read moreDid I mention the food? Well, it's absolutely superb! While some may claim lunch is always the same (only one option each day: some kind of stew, plus rice and freshly-woked vegetables), it certainly does the trick for me. As for the a la carte menu, some favourites of mine include Gong Bao Su Ji, Xiang Shao Dou Fu and Qing Hui Bai Ye. The starters are quite good, even though they have some new addition that I still haven't tried. The desserts are fine yet maybe not all that special. In the old days they used to have some pannacotta style of pudding that was absolutely gorgeous!
I guess if I am to find something negative about Lao Wai it will have to be their prices, which have shot up over the last few years. Not excessive for the quality of the food, they just seem very high for the kind of setting where it's served. But then again, it might even be a good thing to just save this place for special occasions, otherwise I may show up more often than necessary.. thereby risking bankruptcy! :)

Excellent food, best Chinese meal I've ever had. Great tea selection which appears expensive but is good for refills so a pot will last the whole meal.

Delicious - Edit
Went for lunch. It was really crowded and we managed to get a table just as others were leaving (i.e. get there early or late enough to squeeze in). They serve only one dish for lunch. So its a take it or leave it option. But the food is good so there's no reason to complain. For a vegan lunch in Stockholm its not terribly high priced.

Reliably excellent - Edit
On this visit i tried the cardamom ice cream with bergamot and it was superb! I have been coming to Lao Wai on my Stockholm visits for over 10 years and I find it consistent in terms of quality and respect for all their ingredients. A lot of people don't know about this place, and I love to introduce them.

Vegan Chinese lunch - Edit
A very small and inconspicuous restaurant. After reading its reviews, we were lucky to get in without a reservation.
Read moreWe weren't offered a menu but lunch delivered to us was spicy vegetables, plain rice and rice noodles with tofu, all of which were very nice.
I liked the no nonsense approach and the lack of choice wasn't an issue but could be for some, especially if you don't like spicy food.
Pros: Nicely cooked spicy lunch
Cons: A little small, booking advisable

Good Food - Edit
This place is _small_. If you don't have a reservation you are unlikely to get a table, or if you do you may have a time limit. The food was good, nothing exceptional for me.

Special birthday meal - Edit
I chose this restaurant for my birthday meal and was so pleased with my choice. The service was amazing, my family was treated so well. We were all very impressed with our meals, especially the starters. Not all my family are vegan, but they all enjoyed their food. It’s expensive but worth it for the experience

Good but expensive - Edit
Fast & friendly service, but expensive for lunch. Price vs. portion not equal (120:- for a moderate portion). If you’re not really so hungry and want to get in and out quickly, it’s an acceptable option. A bit too expensive for lunch. Ingredients appeared to be canned or frozen.

Lao Wai state all ingredients are cooked from fresh (exception being some dried mushrooms). This is one of my favourite places to eat in Stockholm and all food has seemed to me to be fresh and expertly cooked. I have never considered that they would lie about this.

Good place - Edit
There is only one option for lunch and it is written in Swedish only. Staff is not friendly, their attitude is take it or leave it without explaining too much how it works. Had to google it what am I going to have. Food was tasty on the spicy side and a bit bland on a non spicy side of the dish.

I came in on a Monday and got rice, Asian vege and noodles. They have a set lunch menu throughout the week, which makes the decision what to eat simple😄The food was very tasty, service was kind and quick and the place has a nice ambient. Space is a little tight but there's a quick turnover of customers.
