Lovely breakfast options

Popular coffee shop with some vegan breakfast options to choose from.
Lots of vegan cakes to choose from. Adding some gluten free options would improve this lovely place

Great Coffee & Mostly Vegan!

Jaunty Goat Bridge Street is the first opened location of the Chester-based vegetarian business Jaunty Goat. The café is inspired by Scandinavian design, resulting in a sleek and minimalist space with an abundance of natural light. There is also outdoor seating available by the entrance. Jaunty Goat Bridge Street is open until 5 pm daily, with the kitchen closing at 3 pm, and most of the menu, including the pastries and cakes, is vegan.

I have visited a few times for coffee and baked treats, but I haven't had a meal from here yet. The menu consists of breakfast and brunch items, with many dishes being based on their home-baked sourdough bread, such as Smashed Avocado, Mixed Wild Mushrooms, Boston Beans, and San Marzano Tomatoes. Some other vegan food options include Granola Bowl, Banana & Oat Pancakes, Chicken Club, and Soup of the Day. Some of the vegan pastries and cakes include:
- Cinnamon Knot
- Cardamon Bun
- Pain au Chocolat
- Berry Danish
- Carrot Cake
- Banana Bread
- Coffee, Date Walnut
- Pistashio Cake
- Chocolate Chip Cookie
- Oat Rasin Cookie

The cakes are delicious, with my favourites so far being the Victoria Sponge Cake and Cookies and Cream Cake. All of the cakes that are listed on the menu don’t seem to be in the display unit, so I’m not sure if they rotate the items they have available to serve daily or if they store some of the cakes out of sight during service. The pastries I’ve tried are the cinnamon knot and the pain au chocolat. They were nice enough, but I’ve had far better vegan pastries elsewhere. The coffee here is delicious, and there are Oat, Soya, Coconut, and Almond milks available. Jaunty Goat Bridge Street is recommended for vegans who are into their speciality coffee shops and want to enjoy their brew in a meat-free environment.

Pros: Mostly Vegan Menu, Vegan Options Labelled, Nice & Relaxing Space, Great Coffee

A Lovely Surprise

I'm visiting my friend for the weekend and we've come to Chester for the day. We popped into a cafe for lunch. They didn't have many vegan options so they recommended the Jaunty Goat. We loved it! It's a stylish cafe where the food is delicious 😋 The staff are warm and professional. It was packed but thankfully, we got a table 🙌🏾 I'm not surprised that it's so popular!

Cute cafe

We initially went to the fully vegan location for breakfast but unfortunately their wifi was down so they couldn’t take card payment (and they don’t take cash). Wandered a few more minutes to the veggie version - the cafe itself is a good bit bigger than the vegan one. My partner and I both went for the beans on toast - good sized portion of sweet but slightly smoky butter beans on sourdough. Both loved it. Partner fancied something sweet to finish off, so he had the carrot cake and the bite I had was delicious. The coffee is excellent. Most of the menu is thankfully vegan but it would be great if this location was 100% vegan like the other.

Jaunty Goat Bridge St

The larger of the two Jaunty Goat cafes, but this store serves dairy, eggs and honey, unlike the other one which is completely vegan. I can see why some people do get caught out with the two close together and I wasn’t asked what mylk I’d like for my drink here and needed to specify. Food menu was quite clear though. I had a matcha latte, which was ok, would’ve been nice to have been offered sugar/sweetener. This store is table service for eating/drinking in the cafe. Dog friendly.

Warning 2 Jaunty Goats!

We called in here thinking it was a vegan only cafe, only to discover that there are 2 Jaunty Goat cafes within a 10 min walk of each other. We had inadvertently gone to the veggie cafe in error. Given choice, we always pick the vegan only eateries to support vegan businesses. Not sure why one is vegan, while the other is veggie with some vegan options.

Pressed for time, we stayed to eat. I had a hot chocolate and avocado on toast & my partner chose a black coffee and the lentil & broccoli soup. The waitress had to check if the hot chocolate was vegan. By all accounts the soup was very nice. My avocado on toast was literally just that, no seasoning and fairly basic. At home I usually season it and maybe add some chilli flakes or herbs/spices. The avocado on 2 pieces of toast cost £9.50 and was a bit disappointing to be honest

Cons: Two cafes same name, Same business diff menus, Pricey

Almost all vegan

Everything on the menu is clearly labeled. In fact there was only one item (an egg) that was not vegan. All the desserts were vegan as well! Had the chicken club and mushroom toast and both very delicious. Not huge portions but the price is relatively reflective of that. Overall really enjoyed the food, drinks and ambiance😄

Pros: Almost all vegan, Delicious food items, Vegan bakery choices

Utterly disappointing

Lovely looking cafe but I had to wait a while for a table on a Monday lunch then had to wait a while to place my order. There are two Jaunty Goats in Chester and I ended up in the non-vegan one where one of the dishes on the menu is chicken and bacon something and classed as vegan. I double checked what was vegan before I ordered as I found this very odd and she said 'oh it's vegan chicken'. I have NO IDEA why places list (vegan) meats on menus without explaining what they are. Ordering vegan can be a minefield anyway without them making it intentionally worse. I ordered Boston Beans (basically homemade beans on toast) for £8.50 and I got one slice of sourdough with some beans on top and a garnish of pepper around the plate (odd!). It tasted fine but I left hungry.
I was going to order cake afterwards but didn't on principle! However, I ended up in the other branch eating cake later and it was great. Reputation redeemed somewhat!

Incredible tofu scramble and cake

The best tofu scramble either me or my partner have ever had - better than real egg. Exceptionally good raspberry pistachio polenta cake, vegan along with most of their cakes. Decent coffee, too. Not cheap, but definitely worth the money.

Pros: Tofu scramble the best ever, Great vegan cake, Nice coffee

Great coffee

Popped in to see what the vegan cakes options were and was told “They’re all vegan!” One of our party is an ex barista and she was mightily impressed. I had handsdown the best soy milk latte ever - steamed perfectly and with so much thick foam (which is no mean feat with soy milk, I’m told). Carrot cake and ginger orange cake were excellent choices, but they all looked delicious - it was difficult to choose :))

Fab cake

Stopped for a mid morning coffee, and glad we did. Great vibe -very busy, but plenty of tables. We each had a cappuccino with oat milk, OH had a big slice of carrot cake - moist with lashings of topping. I had a slice of lime, coconut and polenta cake, which was also a good choice.

Pros: Nice service, Plenty of tables

Great Long Black coffee!

I had a fantastic Long Black coffee ( 2 espresso shots, not so much hot water as an Americano). 3 Vegan cake options but I didn't sample this time. Will definitely be back. Good atmosphere. Nice and busy on a Sunday afternoon.

Pros: Vegan cakes!

Cons: None.
