Lovely vegan menu in the centre of Chester - Edit
Must visit if you’re looking for vegan food in Chester! Large, varied menu with plenty of options. We went for 3 small plates which was enough for 2 people, v tasty and generous portions. We loved the pink theme and the staff were super friendly 🫶🏼

very yummy - Edit
we came a while ago and ordered 3-4 dishes, but there’s one that still stands out to me and it was the oyster mushrooms with caviar
Read morehonestly it wasn’t even because of the caviar and oyster mushrooms, but because this dish comes with the purest, most flavoursome pea sauce i have ever tasted. it’s the complete essence of a pea. it’s like the tears of a virgin pea
the portion sizes overall weren’t very good which was the only letdown. we asked the waitress whether the oyster mushrooms would be enough to share, but it def wasn’t, even on top of a few other dishes. we sadly left with unfull tummies

Closed early - Edit
I'm so annoyed about this. The food here was fantastic last time we came so my wife and I travelled all the way to Chester (35 miles) after seeing that they close at 10PM only to get there to find the place in darkness.
Read moreIf it said that they might close if it was quiet, I'd have called to check.
And to top it off Shrub, round the corner, closes it's kitchen at 8:30PM.
Lucky chefs, unlucky customers.

We're truly sorry for your disappointment 😞 unfortunately there's no option to change opening times on Google if we close earlier or to add any notes. Our opening times says that we're open till 10pm and if we had reservation even for only one person we'd absolutely stay open and wait for them. But if there are no reservations and no customers for hours and hours unfortunately we have to make the best decision to be able to pay staff and all the other costs. Once again we're sorry for this and hopefully next time we will be more busy or you can give us a call to book a table if it's late one.

Excellent - Edit
We ate here a couple of days ago and found the food to be excellent, exceptional and some of the best food in many years of vegan eating. The choice was almost overwhelming, not something we are accustomed to, and when finally selected the food was superb. Service was particularly good and the prices were, based on recent experiences of other eateries, absolutely fine, certainly value for money.

Supermarket-bought ingredients, tarted up and served as supposedly quality food - Edit
In my opinion Pink Lettuce is an absolute con. From the menu descriptions (and the prices) you’d expect high quality cuisine, made from scratch.
Read moreTake their most expensive starter, the pastrami and Greek cheese toast, as an example. The highlight of this £12.95 dish is two strips of The Squeaky Bean Company pastrami that you can buy from any supermarket. That’s right, about 60p worth of protein to justify an almost £13.00 starter!
The same goes for the mains we’ve tried. If you get the Greek salad (which somehow doesn’t include vegan feta so I’m not sure what makes it ‘Greek’), they charge nearly £3.00 per addition to add some supermarket bought ‘chicken’ (either This Isn’t Chicken or Richmond’s), vegan feta etc. That salad, with the extras, cost nearly £22.00 which is eye-wateringly expensive for a basic dish.
Vegan House, also in Chester, makes all its faux meats; Fika bakes everything in-house, including its own wonderful sourdough bread; Shrub make all of their food from scratch; The Vibe in Liverpool even make vegan poached eggs!
As I say, an absolute con and I’m amazed they haven’t been rumbled sooner. We won’t be back!

Pros: Nice location and decor , Friendly server
Cons: Expensive, Basic, supermarket-bought ingredients
Pink-Lettuce
Thank you for sharing your generous opinion and we're very sorry for your disappointment. Yes there are brands which we use for some of our ingredients which we get from suppliers and yes I believe most of the ingredients can be bought from supermarkets these days. Unfortunately just like the majority of other restaurants we don't grow our own veg and don't have our own factory to manufacture unique ingredients that noone else has..
Read moreOur food is made from scratch our mains, curries, even all salad dressings, dips, hummus, we have fresh daily baked burger buns from scratch beetroot and charcoal, soups and much more!!!
Price wise we're average and far from fine dining prices but equal to other food places in Chester where single avocado toast cost around £10 (avocado can be bought from supermarkets too) and if you compare avocado to vegan pastrami toast that comes with (3 SLICES it NEVER comes with 2 slices!!!!) + Greek cheese, lamb lettuce, caramelised onion chutney, onions, pickles, micro greens and maple dressing drizzle obviously would be pricier than avocado toast..
Portions of our salads are quite generous and Greek Salad costs £12.95 and comes with Greek cheese if you choose to add optional extras to your salad. That is your choice.. you can add them as much as you want and you pay for them separately but the price for salad is £12.95.
Sadly there's no restaurant that could cook and offer food for supermarket prices because eating out includes; salary for person who serves you, salary for person who cook for you, rent (it's very expensive in Chester) , bills, business rates, taxes, card payment fees, restaurant licences etc...
But what do we know compared to highly experienced professional who has been in most of Chester's kitchens and knows what they cook or don't cook from scratch. Btw can't recall you being in ours to offend us with such bold statements of yours that we don't cook from scratch.
Best wishes and apologies once again for your very disappointing meal.

Great place - Edit
I was a bit hesitant to go here as many people on HappyCow said this was ‘fine dining’. I just wanted to grab a fast dinner on the road. Luckily they offer that too. We shared the pastrami & Greek cheese sourdough sandwich, which was spot on and absolutely delicious. Inspired me to make similar things at home. For main I had the signature burger, a great burger which lives up to its reputation. Staff is very friendly and the drinks are also great, I had non-alcoholic cider which was fab. 10/10 would come back.

Pink Lettuce - Edit
Popped in at lunchtime but unfortunately only had time for a drink, will return next time for food. It was sad to see it completely empty and I wonder if people maybe don’t know it’s there, I couldn’t see any signage at street level (it’s up on the rows). I had their special, a pink latte, to try something different. Staff were really friendly and welcoming. Seating inside and outside. Located on first floor.

We had lunch here on a visit to Chester, check it out you will not be disappointed, only slight problem was it was only wheelchair accessible during the day, via a shopping centre which is closed in the evening otherwise we would have gone back for dinner. The food was delicious, service terrific, lovely staff!

Ate here last night and was so impressed. Great location in one of the medieval "Rows," on a main street of Old Chester. The owner is a lovely young woman and I wish her much success. I had the vegetable stir fry with rice noodles cooked to perfection!

Reasonably priced, food was good - Edit
Restaurant had a relaxed feel with a quieter, calm vibe that was lovely. Food was good, we had a "fish" and chips, BBQ jackfruit spring rolls and sticky tofu. Everything was great. If I had to make one comment it's that the texture of the sticky tofu was (to me anyway) slightly too soft. Deep frying the tofu so it has a firmer bite would really suit the sticky dressing. Otherwise, lovely place, would return.

Sunday Roast - Edit
We had the Sunday roast, which we had to book in advance. The other dishes on the menu looked appetising but because we'd pre booked a roast we didn't try anything else. The roast included 6 different veg as well as mashed & roast potatoes. There was also a 'minced meat' pie & some 'chicken strips'.
