Great vibe

Clearly labelled vegan options on the menu. Always a bonus. But also the establishment as a whole was so easy to be in. It was an experience that I hadn't experienced before. I've only experienced carribean food and music in a dancing and party context, here however it was calming. Not something I had experienced before and the whole experience was just lovely.

Pros: Unique experience, Knowledgeable staff and clear vegan markings, Easy space to be in, beautiful

Unimpressive

No cash accepted, but staff were willing to take mine, as it was the exact amount. I was supposed to get fritters, which they confirmed were vegan. However, I was given something else, since they meant they did have SOME vegan food, just not what was listed. Staff did acknowledge that they hadn't clarified, but failed to apologise.
The food, or rather the main course, was just ok. Filled red bell pepper with green beans, cauliflower, some nuts, ketchup and sweet potato chips. Had it not been for the last ingredient one would have thought we were still in the 90s; had it not been for the complimentary soup (vegan on this particular occasion) I would have given Cane Rum Society one single star. I was expecting genuine Caribbean food and got something.. plain?
Also, it feels anachronistic and unfashionable for this lavish place to have single-use CLOTH towels in the bathroom in the middle of a climate emergency, and I can't say they promote their vegan options particularly, at least when it comes to lunch (compare the names "Panko Crusted Fried Chicken, Sweet Potato Fries, Coleslaw, Mango Hot Sauce" to "Chickpeas" or "Cauliflower"). All in all, there's plenty of room for improvement here.
