Great food, friendly service! - Edit
Located in a quiet courtyard, Barakokula offers a delicious plant based menu consisting of simple, yet comforting dishes. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a vegan bite in Split!

An oasis for vegans - Edit
Good food. Especially for vegans, this place is a welcome respite from the meat onslaught of the rest of Split. Mushroom pasta was very tasty and worth a repeat visit. The brownie was good but the frozen topping needs help. Service was within normal local standards.

Great find in split old town - Edit
Lots of options on the menu, and the food was tasty - even my non vegan friends enjoyed their meals. Portions were generous, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Prices were also reasonable. The only downside was the cocktails - they weren’t great. Would definitely recommend going there for a relaxed and top meal though.

Hidden gem alert! Tucked away in the cutest little alleyway, this restaurant instantly won me over with its dreamy fairy lights and lush hanging plants—such a magical vibe!
Read moreI started with the lavender lemonade, which was so lovely and refreshing—like summer in a glass. Then came the truffle mushroom creamy pasta, and WOW. Rich, velvety, and full of deep, earthy flavour… absolute pasta perfection.
But let’s talk about that brownie. It was HUGE—and totally indulgent in the best way. If you're a dessert lover, this one’s a must!
Portions are generous, and while the prices are on the slightly higher side, it’s 100% worth it for the quality, atmosphere, and experience. Treat yourself—you won’t regret it!
Pros: Plenty of options, Set in a cute valley

Best vegan place in Croatia - Edit
The food, the place decoration, the staff, the lavender gin... Everything was so perfect. I even wish I never went to Barakokula, because now I have to come back to my country from holidays and I'm 100% sure I will never eat anything as tasty here as I did in Barakokula. Congratulations!!!

Original, Nutritious and Delicious - Edit
The vegan plates were properly vegan. I mean, it wasn’t just the absence of meat or cheese that made it vegan, but the combination of flavors, carbs, proteins.
Read moreWe ordered Tapas 42 (great to share while drinking a beer), the tofu and the oyster mushrooms. Everything was superb, the staff was super kind and both the beer and the cups they served were incredibly cold (really made a difference because of the summer heat).
Pros: Nutritious , Delicious, Beer was chilling and so eas the cup

Giant, wow! We are thrilled with the beautiful and fresh food that we just devoured. My husband and I are serious vegan foodies. And we are now officially blown away by the food at Barakokula. Now we have to kill time before we can come back here for dinner. 😋😋😋😋👍👍👍👍

Great food - Edit
A nice experience with great food. A bit pricy but very tasty and good sizes on the plates. The waiters where nice but maybe not the most interactive and helpfully. Almost felt like they didn’t really care if we were there or not. So not unfriendly in any way but maybe not the most welcoming.
Read moreOne waiter took the plates from behind without noticing she was about to or asked if we were done and almost scared me.
Also ordered a ginger lemon and it was way to much ginger for the lemon. Felt healthy but not the most tasteful/refreshing drink.
Pros: The food, The serving sizes, The atmosphere/place of the restaurant
Cons: A bit pricey (not to bad though), Not the most welcoming staff , The ginger lemon had way to much ginger.

Actually a Nice Food Spot in Split Old Town - Edit
We visited Barakokula twice, and on our first visit, we were treated with great courtesy by a very attentive, dark-haired service staff member. Unfortunately, she finished her shift shortly after we arrived, and the manager (?) who took over from then on was rather moody.
Read moreThe food ranged from good (starters) to very good (main courses), and we really appreciated having a vegan food spot in the heart of Split—especially since the restaurant is located in a quiet courtyard that allows you to forget the hustle and bustle of the old town.
Unfortunately, our second visit was quite a flop. The place wasn’t busy, and the blonde female server didn’t show much interest in us. She spent most of the time sitting at a nearby table with some paperwork, and it took several encouraging nods from us before she finally came over to attend to us.
Even though we were practically the only guests, one of the main dishes was forgotten and never served. Since the server was nowhere to be seen, we decided not to pursue the matter. We were all the more surprised to find the dish on the bill—and genuinely shocked by the server’s reaction.
She said she couldn’t accept our complaint, spoke with the chef (who said he couldn’t remember), and then disappeared to review the surveillance footage from the camera above the counter.
We waited over 10 minutes until she returned and confirmed that the dish had indeed not been served, and she presented us with a corrected bill—accompanied by a curt “Sorry.”
Well, here’s a “Sorry” from our side too. We know the ins and outs of the restaurant business very well, and to say this behavior was “unusual” would be an extreme understatement.
Unfortunately, only two stars from us. The food would have deserved four.
Pros: Quality of main dishes, Cozy courtyard
Cons: Abysmal service, Mediocre starters
