Best vegan place in Croatia - Edit
The food, the place decoration, the staff, the lavender gin... Everything was so perfect. I even wish I never went to Barakokula, because now I have to come back to my country from holidays and I'm 100% sure I will never eat anything as tasty here as I did in Barakokula. Congratulations!!!

Original, Nutritious and Delicious - Edit
The vegan plates were properly vegan. I mean, it wasn’t just the absence of meat or cheese that made it vegan, but the combination of flavors, carbs, proteins.
Read moreWe ordered Tapas 42 (great to share while drinking a beer), the tofu and the oyster mushrooms. Everything was superb, the staff was super kind and both the beer and the cups they served were incredibly cold (really made a difference because of the summer heat).
Pros: Nutritious , Delicious, Beer was chilling and so eas the cup

Astonishingly delicious plant-based food - Edit
Giant, wow! We are thrilled with the beautiful and fresh food that we just devoured. My husband and I are serious vegan foodies. And we are now officially blown away by the food at Barakokula. Now we have to kill time before we can come back here for dinner. 😋😋😋😋👍👍👍👍
Read morePS we had the geisha rolls and the oyster mushroom buffalo wings. But every dish that went by was gorgeous.

Great food - Edit
A nice experience with great food. A bit pricy but very tasty and good sizes on the plates. The waiters where nice but maybe not the most interactive and helpfully. Almost felt like they didn’t really care if we were there or not. So not unfriendly in any way but maybe not the most welcoming.
Read moreOne waiter took the plates from behind without noticing she was about to or asked if we were done and almost scared me.
Also ordered a ginger lemon and it was way to much ginger for the lemon. Felt healthy but not the most tasteful/refreshing drink.
Pros: The food, The serving sizes, The atmosphere/place of the restaurant
Cons: A bit pricey (not to bad though), Not the most welcoming staff , The ginger lemon had way to much ginger.

Actually a Nice Food Spot in Split Old Town - Edit
We visited Barakokula twice, and on our first visit, we were treated with great courtesy by a very attentive, dark-haired service staff member. Unfortunately, she finished her shift shortly after we arrived, and the manager (?) who took over from then on was rather moody.
Read moreThe food ranged from good (starters) to very good (main courses), and we really appreciated having a vegan food spot in the heart of Split—especially since the restaurant is located in a quiet courtyard that allows you to forget the hustle and bustle of the old town.
Unfortunately, our second visit was quite a flop. The place wasn’t busy, and the blonde female server didn’t show much interest in us. She spent most of the time sitting at a nearby table with some paperwork, and it took several encouraging nods from us before she finally came over to attend to us.
Even though we were practically the only guests, one of the main dishes was forgotten and never served. Since the server was nowhere to be seen, we decided not to pursue the matter. We were all the more surprised to find the dish on the bill—and genuinely shocked by the server’s reaction.
She said she couldn’t accept our complaint, spoke with the chef (who said he couldn’t remember), and then disappeared to review the surveillance footage from the camera above the counter.
We waited over 10 minutes until she returned and confirmed that the dish had indeed not been served, and she presented us with a corrected bill—accompanied by a curt “Sorry.”
Well, here’s a “Sorry” from our side too. We know the ins and outs of the restaurant business very well, and to say this behavior was “unusual” would be an extreme understatement.
Unfortunately, only two stars from us. The food would have deserved four.
Pros: Quality of main dishes, Cozy courtyard
Cons: Abysmal service, Mediocre starters

Amazing experience - Edit
Everything I ate was very tasty. Nice service and good location in the central location in old town. Truffle mushroom pasta was amazing (and I dislike mushrooms a lot), and portions are big enough. A little bit pricey but worth it.

We also had the truffle pasta which was amazing.

Fancy tasty vegan spot! - Edit
I arrived just in time for the main menu at lunchtime. I went for truffle pasta - the pasta tasted freshly made and it was well balanced. Portion size slightly small for me but not a big deal. Staff were friendly and attentive. Overpriced for what it is though imo.

Scumptious ! - Edit
Ths place does good food, stylish and tasty, very tasty. Its not cheap and I wish there had been a bit more bread with the Tapas 42 meal. I think posh places should offer free cheap bread for those of us who like to bulk out the tasty but tiny options. I exaggerate - the portions were not minute!
Read moreTapas 42 had some very nice cheesy bits and a lovely mix of other tastes, textures and tints (colours! - couldn't resist the triple alliteration!) The Splitska Torta was a very sophisticated raw style cake with 'delish' orange cream. The waitress spoke great English and was lovely. I hope to return here and try the Geisha rolls and other exciting looking food their menu offers.

Best vegan restaurant of my holiday! - Edit
I loved Barakokula! We had dinner here on our first night in Split and especially the vegan cheese platter was sooo good. The atmosphere was really nice and the staff was exceptionally kind and warm. We loved it so much that we returned for breakfast the next day AND for cake in the afternoon. I highly recommend!
