Friendly all vegan lunch cafe - Edit
Update: Breakfast hours : 9-10:30AM Lunch 11:30-2PM., Café drinks and desserts till 5 or 6pm. Plan accordingly, and don’t be surprised if you see a “Sold Out” sign posted on the door in the afternoon . The new option —breakfast —is healthy, tasty and filling with choices like Tempeh « BLT » on sourdough, Roasted Veggie & Hummus Tartine, Avocado Toast, etc
Read moreVeg out is easy to find on Shichi-Dori on the Kamo river and at the Keihan subway shichidori stop—just across the bridge. There’s an English menu and usually includes a hearty Buddha Bowl, Coconut Curry , Taco Rice, a Deli Plate set, soup, muffins, tea , coffee and other drinks.

Amazing for breakfast - Edit
We stayed in a hotel very close so we visitors for one lunch and 3 breakfasts!!!!
Read moreIt’s western style food with a Japanese twist. The lunch was lovely but where this place really shines is breakfast. The Tempeh BLT was FABULOUS! From the sourdough with a soft chewy centre and crisp crust to the perfectly cooked tempeh and the juiciest tomatoes. (I live local food but I miss my bread when travelling - not anymore!) They sell out early so the second day we also got to try the avo toast and banana and peanut butter- both hit all the boxes but the tempeh- well this is one of my favourite meals of the week.
Also very friendly staff allowed me to practice my Japanese with gracious patience.
Pros: Delicious tempeh, Amazing sourdough, Fab staff
Cons: Closes early

I make tempeh BLTs all the time back home so was looking forward to having again. The bread was superb and the fillings hit the spot. Great view of the river and matcha latte was tasty too

Good breakfast - Edit
We went there because of the sourdough bread toast and it was amazing. Fully recommend it. Be careful and watch the opening times on Google, they are different from here. And be early since they run out of bread later

Fresh veggies - Edit
The vegetables were very fresh and almost raw. The dressing went really well with the salad and the mock meat on top.
Read moreThe set meal was pretty good with a lot of variety.
The small soup going with the meals were good aswell.
The portions were unexpectedly big and very filling.
It is a relaxed store with a nice view on the Kamogawa.
Went there for tea and a cake at around 3 pm. The matcha latte was good. The cake was a bit dry and crumbly which was a bit sad.

Favourite Vegan Spot in Kyoto - Edit
Tried this spot twice for lunch during a long weekend in Kyoto. There’s a view over the river, vintage records, an open kitchen which combined gives this place a lovely relaxed vibe.

I’ve enjoyed three meals at Veg Out, and all were delicious and well-balanced. The coconut curry, desserts and oolong kombucha are recommendable.

Tasty vegan food by the river - Edit
Amazing vegan food, with seasonal vegetables that had so much flavour! We both had the tempeh BLT for lunch, which comes with soup and a salad, for drinks we had a tumeric latte and a bonsoy latte.

Great spot, even better food - Edit
When I stayed in Kyoto I would get a soy chai each day. The maple, walnut and cinnamon muffins are delcious, and for breakfast I'm sure everything on the menu is great but the tempeh BLT was out-of-this-world good and super filling. Nice view looking out over the river too, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff.

Lots of various toast/bread options for breakfast, and the coffee was delicious. Really loved the location and the beautiful view while enjoying a meal. The staff member that served us was a little cold, but perhaps he was just having a bad day!

Delicious vegan food! - Edit
Veg Out is our favorite cafe in Kyoto. When we were here 5 years ago, we had breakfast here almost every day of our stay. It’s the same this time. The location (right next to the river — great birdwatching!), service, ambiance and food are wonderful. The vibe is relaxed and casual. The hot chocolate is perfection!

Great cafe and incredible view - Edit
This cafe was warmly recommended to us, we decided to go for breakfast. What is distinctive in Japan, as a rule, only a specific part of the menu is available, according to the time of day. Various toasts and granola were available for breakfast, and of course drinks. We ordered toast with tempeh and homemade granola with soy yogurt, cappuccino with oat milk and also matcha latte. The granola was incredibly delicious, as was the tempeh in the toast, the drinks are also very good. It may have taken a little while to cook, but quite a lot of people came at the same time, so I understand. Credit cards are accepted, and there is also a gorgeous view of the river from the window.

Healthy vegan lunch - Edit
Everything was fresh and flavorful. The homemade ginger ale was intense! The curry was good, but not amazing. The Buddha bowl was better, with what I believe was seitan tempura. I found the cake and muffin dry and crumbly, but interesting.
