simple but tasty wraps

I had the vegan wrap with some spicy salsa and tasty guacamole on the side. The wraps are small and simple, but tasty! I also tried their fresh green juice!
Love the concept of health store, vegan food and juice bar in one!

Pros: many vegan options , health store and eatery in one

Cons: serves meat

Several vegan options

Trigo Verde has a small selection of health-oriented products in its shop, plus a menu that includes several vegan options, e.g. burgers, tacos, etc. Some items are labeled, but ask to be sure.

Amazing Vegetarian & Vegan Food in Oaxaca!

Trigo Verde is a cute little restaurant in the central area of Oaxaca with delicious vegan and vegetarian options and healthy versions of traditional Mexican food. They also sell a nice selection of natural health and beauty products, vitamins and foods too.

I visited this small eatery twice and ordered a fresh green juice along with the vegan tacos al pastor both times (made with soy meat) and they were so tasty. The staff were sweet and friendly. I did find it a bit odd that you can’t order smoothies or fresh juices after 12 pm, according the menu, but just make sure you go before then if you want one of these to drink.

I believe they also offer a menu of the day (menu del dia) for a good price.

Pros: Natural Health and Food Products, Delicious Healthy Vegetarian & Vegan Food, Friendly Staff

Cons: Smoothies and Juices Not Offered After 12 PM

DELICIOUS VEGAN FOOD

So happy to find menus with VEGAN written on them :) the vegan burgers are delicious as is the plate of the day and the smoothies. The shop itself is also great, selling veggie burgers, tofu, soy/coconut milk and NUTRITIONAL YEAST. Was so happy to find nutritional yeast here, i stocked up and carry it around with me to add some flavour and b12 on meals.

little natural shop in old town oaxaca

A local take on a health food store with little cafe serving vegetarian and vegan burgers, tacos, wraps and a breakfast menu (I was too late to sample).
Vegan burger was really big in size and had a choice of 3 patties (soy, oats or amaranth).
I ordered the hot chocolate and the cocoa shake which were both super yummy.
NO MEAT on the menu, ham is soy. When I asked the manager he said that they do offer tuna from the can on their sandwich menu, that is the only "real" meat served here.
I'll be back to try their breakfast menu.

Pros: lots of vegan options, reasonably priced, right in

Cons: most staff don't seem confident in their vegan foo

Interesting shop, accommodating

This was our very first stop in Oaxaca for food. They had a chalk menu on the wall as well as a paper menu, but I was hoping for a vegan "plate of the day". The server at the counter wasn't sure what was vegan that day, but she brought out a manager (or owner, not sure) who was able to share vegan options with us. She created a plate of the day that came with a fancy water (I chose chia with lemon), a soup (vegetable including nopales), a main dish sampler (rice, spaghetti with pesto, and a Oaxacan dish which ended up being a seitan dish), dessert (a flan-type pie), and bread. She offered a few options for the Oaxacan dish in the sampler, but we weren't really sure what anything was and asked for a surprise. The whole meal was relatively healthy and a steal. They also have a little store so you can buy fresh bread, amaranth cookies, chia seeds, and other natural food options.

Pros: Unbeatable price, Interesting flavors, Friendly, professional staff

Cons: Menu was a bit confusing, Some staff didn't know what was vegan

NOT Vegetarian

After the first glance at the menu I was disappointed to find out that they represent this restaurant as vegetarian while offering the option to add HAM to your sandwiches??? I asked for explanations hoping it would be some kind of soy ham but was confirmed by the staff it is turkey, they did not seem to find anything strange with it, continuing to claim the restaurant is vegetarian and they just offer ham as an option to omnivores. Not the kind of place and mentality I like to support but Oaxaca has no vegan restaurants and the other "vegetarian" restaurant does the same, so here I ate twice. Leaving this issue aside the food is good, not amazing but definitely good enough for great prices.

Pros: Good prices, Plenty of veg*n options for not vegetarian

Cons: NOT VEGETARIAN, Ham options?, Gelatin desserts probably also not vegetarian

Great location w/ vegan options in a meat/dairy-centered city

This place was awesome, and the employees were super helpful and friendly. Vegan items available, which I had difficulty finding during my entire stay in Oaxaca. English menu. Organic items available as well. Must visit if vegan in Oaxaca, as there are few if any options to eat a decent vegan meal in the city.

Pros: Vegan options, Friendly staff, English menu

Cons: Wish there were more vegan options available

Average canteen-style food, but lots of veg options

Nice vegetarian place and health food shop. All of the food is canteen-style, cooked up already and kept in a bain marie. Food was okay. I had a vegan falafel wrap with hummus, and my boyfriend ate the menu del dia which was a veg lasagne. This place was really cheap though.

Pros: Really cheap, Veggie-friendly

Cons: Average food

Amazing Vegan food in Oaxaca

I am a native from Oaxaca who is a long-term vegan with a vegan partner. We visited from Los Angeles and went to Trigo Verde. The food was better than we had expected and the service was great. The owner greeted us and took vegan literature from us to place in the store. We ordered what he recommended: the tlayuda, tacos al pastor, vegan burger were excellent dishes. We wished that we had more time in Oaxaca to return to this restaurant.

Pros: Cheap, Close to downtown

Cons: Few vegan options

The best vegan food I had in Oaxaca

I loved my meal at Trigo Verde. The portions were big and the cost of the menu of the day was only 45 pesos. I ordered the menu of the day, but was told all but the dessert was vegan, so I didn't get it. My only complain would be that they didn't have a a vegan dessert option, and they still charged me full price for the menu of the day even though I didn't get the dessert. Of course, it was inexpensive, so I can't complain too much. If the menu of the day is not vegan, there are a few other vegan choices. The also sell some soy meats in the small store inside the restaurant for a great price.

Pros: Great service, Inexpensive, Big portions

Cons: No vegan dessert option

Fast food style food. The few vegan choices were good but not enough numerous. Only one burger and one tacos are labeled vegan. The item I asked to make it vegan was not possible.
Inexpensive! 1 burger + 1 plato de tacos + batidos = 77 pesos.

Pros: tasty, inexpensive

Cons: few vegan choices

Quick, Convenient, Tasty and Healthy Vege Food

I never imagined I'd find a place in Oaxaca that serves up great vege food; getting out more has helped to disabuse me of my ignorance. The first time I went to Trigo Verde, I had a Mega Tostada. Man, thing was huge!...enough to hold me over until dinner. Great-tasting combination of beans with tomato and quesillo (like string-chees)on a massively-sized tortilla (I think they call it a "Tlayuda"). You have the option of different kinds of cheeses on this, but I always choose the quesillo because I'm not a fan of the other two.

Burgers are of course not what you'd taste in some of the better restaurants you'll find in Los Angeles, but that aside, they hold their own very well! I actually enjoy my vegetarian burgers here every time.

The other option I normally go for changes daily; they call it their "menu" option, which typically includes two rolls of bread, some sort of soup, a main vegetarian dish, a flavored water and a dessert...all for a ridiculously inexpensive $45 MXN It's almost always something I thoroughly enjoy. Is it because I conveniently walk right in front of this place on my way home every weekday afternoon after a hard day's work?....Or because their food is that great?...Probably a little bit of both.

Pros: Tasty food at a ridiculously great price, Friendly staff, Conveniently located in the city center

Cons: Loud street traffic (as anywhere in Oax)

It's ok...

I went here for lunch but was disappointed there were on 2 vegan items on the menu. The rest was made with eggs or dairy and therefore could not be left out. Additionally, they did not seem to be offering most of the juices advertised.

If you're vegetarian I'd recommend it though. Lots of choices and it's pretty cheap.

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Limited vegan options

Great fast food in a beautiful city

We were visiting Oaxaca and needed something quick to eat. I downloaded the Happy Cow app and saw that this place was just around the corner.

Me and my wife both loved it! Be aware, this is no fine dining experience, you have to try and find a table (it's very busy) and then make your order at the shop till, passing along your receipt to the kitchen staff.

The veggie burgers were cheap and tasty, though the fries that came with the meals were actually potato chips/crisps, but they were OK. I just had the burger whereas my wife had the set meal which was good, but neither of us could eat the dessert - we're not even sure what it was.

Pros: Good Prices, Great veggieburgers

Cons: Dessert inedible

Bustling, convenient, often very tasty

This place is a real institution, and is often busy for lunch. It's just 2 blocks from the zocalo and as such is really the only 100% vegetarian option in the area, if not the city. Creative fixed menu with nice set lunches (40 pesos) varying from day to day. Nice veggie tamales, ceviche, etc., and a cooler selling lots of fake meats and other products.

You pay first at the counter and get a number which you place on your table, and the food is brought to you based on that. Quality of the daily menu can vary pretty dramatically, from delicious and creative to so-so or a half-plate of soggy nopales.

Definitely worth checking out, and trying a few options to find something you like. Try their tlayudas, tacos al pastor, and baguettes (w/soy chorizo or other veg meats).

Pros: Convenient, Cheap, Tasty

Cons: A bit packed, Quality varies, Staff generally not thrilled to be there

I went there to eat lunch. Maybe due to my lack of Spanish, I ended up with eating the burger for 23 pesos. The burger itself was excellent however there was no sauce so it was a bit dry. Obviously they also had the lunch buffet but I did not get what was vegan and what not. They also had a box of vegan patties to go and they were delicious. I can recommend the place.
