Tompkins square bagels has become a tourist trap and gentrified. $9 for a BEC, no exaggeration, and $6 for a bagel that could be considered a mini bagel. They are small than every other bagel shop in the city and more expensive.

My fav thing to get here is EV bagel and vegan Sun-dried tomato which is tofu based. Also liked their The Salino sandwich with beyond meat which can be made vegan if you ask.

Arrived just before they opened on a Saturday, and the staff were very friendly. I asked about the vegan options and was led to the far end of the display case to see six different tofu spreads: plain, spinach artichoke, garlic, vegetable, scallions, and sun-dried tomato. The staff also told me that their Salino sandwich is vegan ($9.95, has Beyond on it).
Read moreI went with an everything bagel and the SDT spread ($5.50). It came wrapped up neatly in a small white paper bag that held up while I wanted to a nearby coffee shop for a hot beverage. The bagel felt hefty on my walk, and I was looking forward to devouring it. After getting back to my friend's place, I unwrapped the huge bagel with flavored spread slathered on it. Now, I'm no expert on bagels; but I thought the gently toasted, crunchy outer, the soft and chewy inner, and the generous helping of delicious spread was very satisfying.

This restaurant has two locations: one on Avenue A, and another on 2nd Avenue between 11th and 12th. It is near a park called "Tompkins Square," and thus "Tompkins Square Bagels"--but the bagels themselves are round, they are not square.😄 Bagels throughout NYC tend to be good, and this place serves better-than-average bagels--not necessarily the best NYC bagels, but certainly very good one. Furthermore, unlike some of the other fine bagel places in the area, this place offers a bunch of vegan spreads--tofu spreads, vegan butter spreads, etc. Although I have no complaints, there are a lot of great vegan places very close by, and this place frankly does not beat the competition. On the other hand, if you are in the East Village and have the urge to have a bagel, Tomkins Square Bagels can fit the bill.

This is one of our go-tos whenever we’re in NYC. The bagels are so soft on the inside with a nice chew on the inside. They have a big menu of homemade tofu spreads and even a few vegan cookies to buy. Expect a large line and have cash since they are cash only!

I had the blueberry bagel by itself and my partner had a plain bagel with tofu garlic spread. They were delicious but there was far too much spread on the bagel. The coffee was also way too sweet and not enjoyable. But overall, was great!
