Vegan Mecca - Edit
I happened to drive by and mention it to a colleague. She said it is her favorite vegan spot on the island. When a friend mentioned meeting up with someone who is vegan I suggested this restaurant. It did not disappoint. Two persons in our party had celiac disease and were able to dine without issues. There was so much food. It was delicious. The sushi rolls were phenomenal. A place I go to whenever I am in town. Discovered they had gluten free rice beer on my last run.
Read moreDownside is that a couple of the listed ‘gluten free’ rolls are not celiac friendly if the fryer has been used for other things that day. They are super understanding and aware of allergies otherwise.
There is a parking lot but it fills up quickly.

A boisterous, lively spot with deep menu of approachable to creative izakaya dishes. Don't miss the brussels sprouts or nigiri. Highly recommend making time for table reservations if you are with a group.

Went recently for a family outing and did not care for the condescending vibe. I guess I'm getting too old to appreciate the too-cool-for-school sass. Spicy ramen was meh though spicy as advertised. The vegan options available have grown in Honolulu and this one no longer is a stand out, unfortunately. Hopefully they place will reconsider bringing back the friendly aloha vibe that it used to have! Also, not all vegans are young! Please respect the elders among us. You'll all get your turn, too.

Pros: extensive menu, good value, creative options
Cons: a bit noisy, but this can be a pro for some!, 90 minute max stay, books up quickly

Delicious!! - Edit
So happy we got to try this place on our trip. We got both the miso soup, then we shared the California Roll, Spicy Tofuna Roll, and the Leahi. We also got the vegan chocolate cheesecake! We will be back once we are in town.

A masterpiece in every bite. - Edit
This place redefines what vegan dining can be. From the first sip of the Spicy Miso Garlic Ramen to the perfectly crisp roasted Brussels sprouts, every dish felt intentional, bold, and beautifully layered. The sushi rolls were delicate and fresh — especially the avocado roll, simple yet full of flavor.
Read moreTane has that rare mix of elegance and soul — it’s the kind of spot where each bite makes you pause for a second just to appreciate how good vegan food can be. The atmosphere is moody and modern, perfect for sushi dates or solo dinners that turn into quiet moments of joy. 🌱✨
If you’re in Honolulu, this is a must-visit. A reminder that vegan food isn’t a compromise — it’s art.

Amazing, not an izakaya - Edit
I loved my dinner here and would come back in a heartbeat. Dishes were complex but not overly complex. The taste and texture were thoroughly thought out and obviously gorgeously presented.
Read moreThe name though...lol. izakayas are supposed to be casual pubs to chill at after work. Not quite what this is going for.

This was pretty insane - Edit
Haven’t been awed in a while, and Tane 100% awed me!
Read more- Atmosphere was lovely and the service was fantastic
- The Sunset roll was a burst of flavor, despite how simple it is
- Paradise Cove was a more complex roll with many different textures and flavors
- Their chik’n skewers were unbelievably good. Probably one of (if not the best) veg chicken experience I’ve ever had
- Da bao buns were good, but not my favorite
- I didn’t love the California roll / Spicy tuna roll. They tasted too much like canned tuna to me and the flavor profile was just a bit off. Not bad, just didn’t love them like the rest
- their green tea was perfect (as a tea snob)
Definitely a solid “nice night out” kind of place and a wonderful experience. A definite must-try and going down in the books as one of my favorite places!
Pros: The food!, Atmosphere , Service

Hands down the best food! - Edit
My family and I arrived for dinner after landing. We were able to get a seat for four. We started off with sake to share with the table and some appetizers. The bao buns were the highlight for us! We loved their sushi as well, but it was similar to their sister restaurant in SF (Shizen), so the sushi were pretty similar. Their ramen is creamy and rich. My siblings aren’t vegan and they were blown away by the dishes and the taste. They loved the vegan food there!
Read moreNotes:
-The parking lot is pretty small and it was hard to find parking. We circled around for a bit and was able to find parking. We arrived as soon as they opened as we heard there is usually a line.
-The food was pretty expensive compared to SF (which is an expensive city to live in as well).

The best vegan sushi of my life! - Edit
This 100% vegan Japanese restaurant is simply amazing. We started with a couple of delicious appetizers and then shared four different maki rolls, each one was so unique and flavorful, it’s hard to choose a favorite! The restaurant is located a bit outside the very center of Honolulu, but it’s absolutely worth the walk.

Fully vegan sushi experience. We enjoyed it and would recommend it. If you're a sushi buff you may be disappointed in the flavors and textures of the roll. A bit pricey, but interesting foods and cocktails.

Exceptional Sushi | Ok Atmosphere/Service - Edit
It’s hard to go wrong with sushi at Tane but our last couple of experiences have been less than ideal. We made a 9pm reservation and the restaurant was near empty but they sat us directly next to another table and we could hear them better than our own conversation. The seating against the straw/mud wall is super cramped and I dread the spot. It’s even worse when the ENTIRE ROW is empty and you’re still stuck listening to the people next to you. They had a bunch of gnats and we spent the evening swatting away at bugs landing on our food. We like to pay for atmosphere as much as for food and that’s hard to enjoy with some of their seating and a lack of time between appetizers and the main course. While their speed is impressive, our last few visits have felt more like a conveyer belt of food rather than a curated fine-dining experience.
Read moreTane used to be my favorite restaurant, but their watered down cocktails, rushed service, and roulette style seating experience has made it less-than-ideal for the money we have to spend on babysitting.

Expensive but worth every penny. The specialty rolls here are visually stunning and delicious. Like an explosion of flavor in your mouth. We ordered take-out but probably better for dine in, so you can fully enjoy the decor and presentation.

Vegan Japanese Heaven - Edit
I have been missing a place like this in my life.
Read moreI grew up in California and used to get Japanese food regularly. But when I became a vegan and moved all over the country I have had a hard time finding really good vegan versions of Japanese food. Usually I can get an avocado roll somewhere but that's about it.
I found this place on Happy Cow and I was thrilled to try everything while visiting Hawaii for work.
The restaurant is really elegant and would be a great place for a date night.
I started with miso soup and was impressed with the flavor. I love miso soup and it has been hard to find vegan versions anywhere because it usually has fish in the broth. This tasted exactly how miso soup should be without the dead fish.
I also got a Tomato Nigiri that had a texture similar to tuna, but tasted a bit like I was eating salad. It was very refreshing and fresh as well.
I also got two specialty rolls. The first one was Paradise Cove and that was my favorite. I believe it was topped with Mango, but the texture and flavor of that also reminded me of how raw fish feels when it is layered on top of a roll. The basil sauce was phenomenal. I don't think the sauce looks very pretty on the roll, but it tasted incredible. I enjoyed every bite of that and would definitely get it again.
The last specialty roll I had was the Mahaka. It was a fried roll and it was very dense. The flavor was good, but the fried part took the stage. It feels very heavy and filling to eat. I almost didn't finish it because I was so full from the soup and other roll. It was very good, but I will try a different roll next time.
This is a nice upscale restaurant, but you can dress casually to eat here. It would be perfect for a friend get-together or a date night. I will definitely come back on another visit to Hawaii.
Pros: Lots of options , Fresh vegetables , Great flavors

Tane Vegan Honolulu is a must visit for vegans - Edit
We loved the decor, the service, and everything we tried at Tane was top notch! Our favorite starter was the Shizen Shitake, but the presentation of the Crispu Cauli Bites was so lovely with our sauces presented as a ying yang. So much attention to detail! Favorite rolls included the wedge and the Monterey. Definitely try it if you’re vegan in Honolulu!

AMAZING experience - Edit
The experience here was amazing. Service was on point, paid attention to detail, staff were so kind, despite it being fairly busy! And the food was top tier. I love sushi but feel like I haven’t been able to fully enjoy the experience since being vegan like I used to, but this all hit the spot and felt like I could really enjoy it all. The cheesecake after it all topped it off, so flavorful and not too heavy!

Easy 5 stars and a must visit when in HNL - Edit
Tane and its counterpart, Shizen in SF, are hands down, the best vegan sushi in the US. Service is top notch. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They do a great job creating a wonderful dining experience. This is shown in how they design the space through the use of natural materials and lighting. There’s such great care taken and it really follows through. Easy 5 stars. ⭐️

So rude without any explanation - Edit
I came to order takeaway, the girl at reception gave me a menu and suggested I sit on a bench near the door, I took the menu and sat down. She asked me if everything was okay. I said that I was not comfortable sitting by the door and I would be more comfortable sitting at a table and waiting for my food to cook. But if that's not allowed, I'll sit here. I was then told to get out of the restaurant and that they would not serve me. I asked for the manager, she said she was the manager. That she was going to call the police if I didn't leave. I just wanted to eat. And I was insulted and brought to tears. I feel really bad.
