Staff Hard To Communicate With

It’s a really cool place and loved the book selection, but when the options have to be modified to be made vegan and staff isn’t fluent enough to understand ‘no cheese’ or ‘make vegan’ then it’s not worth risking it

I received two tofu sandwiches with cheese despite trying to verbally confirm with staff twice
(note: i went during breakfast when items have to be modified to be made vegan, during lunch they have fully vegan options)

One of my favorite places to go.

At Sankofa they make you feel right at home. Great people nice vegan options. I have been patronizing them since they opened years ago.

Would get 5, but Happy Cow would only allow me to rate 4

The atmosphere is amazing! Chess board outside, mellow music, live music at times, book reading to the children, a plethora of awesome fairly priced books

Pros: Customer service, books, atmosphere

Vegan friendly!

This cafe and bookstore is a super hip but hidden enclave for activism by action and by plate. The menu items are named in honor of contributors to the ideological leanings of this liberally minded establishment, so you receive history with your menu perusing.

When you walk in, there is the cafe to your right, the plentiful outdoor shades seating behind you and the bookstore and gathering area to the left. They have many teas to choose for those who enjoy camellia sinensis as their literal cups of tea. Don't stop there- you can sip on beautiful fruit smoothies, made to order so specify dairy free as you please! Great factoid: almond milk and soy milk available! The sugar is optional and is evaporated cane juice. The espresso and coffee beverages are delicious. While you wait, check out the bookstore!

The vegan options are wraps with a hummus base, along with traditional veg accoutrements like cucumbers, tomatoes, spinach and avocado. They have a special vegan Sanofka sauce- tasty! Salad on the side for some extra veggies. They also have vegan pizza, but I prefer the wraps and espresso beverages. The salads are not vegan but easy to ask to make them vegan. They know what it means!! No home mad baked vegan goodies but Alternative Baking Co. pre-packaged cookies are available.

It's super chill, local, not a chain. They pay attention to flavors, and prepare freshly. Yum! Good choice for this area!!

Pros: Vegan lattes with almond milk, Vegan wraps, Seating plentiful

Cons: Made to order = takes time
