The best pastries in Amsterdam - Edit
Simply the best pastries in town, and maybe that I’ve ever had. Cruffins, croissants and danishes were all outstanding. Fresh and beautifully baked. Staff are also lovely.

Five stars thoroughly deserved - Edit
I’d planned on buying these pastries for my birthday, and we turned up around 10-11 with some expectation we would have slim pickings based on other people’s reviews about them selling out, but we had a full selection. It was a Tuesday. We bought 8/9 pastries and they were all perfection, my favourites being the rosemary and sea salt twist, pain au chocolat and pistachio cruffin. They rival even the top quality non-vegan pastries!

Great selection of pastries - Edit
I had a cinnamon roll (seeds on top instead of icing), plus an apple pastry and a hot chocolate - friend had a pistachio croissant. Both were excellent!
Read morePros: Lots of pastry options
Cons: Wish they had at least one non-pastry option/fruit

Yum 🤤 🥐🌞 - Edit
I went on a early morning walk to this lil bakery shop. Saint-Jean offers a great selection of vegan bakes. Croissants, pain au chocolate and more. For breakfast I shared the pistachio croissant, almond croissant and the pain au chocolat with nuts with my siblings. Flavours are on spot! During a previous visit I wanted to go to this bakery but didn’t because of the long qeue. So go early and enjoy the delicious flavours 🤤 🥐

Worth the hype - Edit
This place has some of the best vegan pastries I’ve ever tried! Also, I recommend an early morning arrival to get the best selection of fresh pastries before they all sell out! 🥐 And I can confirm that the pistachio cruffin is worth the hype 😍

Fantastic pastries and cookies - Edit
A great stop for coffee and a snack or breakfast! I love their generously sized pan au chocolate and their cookies are so good that we may have cleared them out…. Twice…. During our five day stay in Amsterdam!
Read moreJust round the corner from Margo’s - so ideal if you went there for lunch but they were out of pastries and you wanted something sweet. Saint Jean’s hands down has the better cookies of the two!
There is also limited seating and a toilet - but sadly once more, these two areas are not wheelchair accessible.
Pros: Amazing cookies, Delicious pastries , Has toilet
Cons: Not wheelchair accessible

Fantastic range of plant-based pastries - Edit
This place is worth the walk if you’re not already in the area. All the pastries are made on the premises and are all plant- based. It was so refreshing to hear people being told “we don’t serve cow’s milk”.

Delicious pastry, maybe more choice earlier in the day? - Edit
We went to try the cruffin however there weren’t any there. I’m not sure that the products are re-stocked later in the afternoon, as we went at 3pm and there wasn’t so much choice. The savoury escargot pastry was delicious though. Would recommend going earlier in the day when there’s likely more selection.

Gotta try the cruffin - Edit
I've never had anything like it - so crispy on the outside and the pistachio cream was such a pleasant contrast on the inside. We had a chocolate-filled croissant as well which was also very good. But man, that cruffin was from another planet. Waiting in the long line was worth it.

Simply marvelous! - Edit
saintjean.nl simply marvelous!
Read moreThey do plantbased sweet and savory options. There is very little seating area, the counter is renewed as it is finished, the varieties change seasonally and daily, there are also tea and coffee options.
The pistachio filled croissant was so good that I couldn't speak for a while. I mean, I can't explain it, even though I'm writing, I think I should eat it again. It was legendary!
The apple and peanut brioche was also great, lighter but satisfying all your sweet cravings. If you like peanuts, you'll love it.
After croissant and brioche, cardamom roll didn't look and taste that good, but I ate it for the first time. While I was eating it, I thought it was a cinnamon roll and they added ginger to it, but it was something completely different😄I may not choose it again among such good options.
The prices are on average 4 €, if you go to Amsterdam, you should definitely try it!
Pros: Good desserts, Good price
Cons: small seating area

Incredible coffee. Even more incredible vegan pastries. - Edit
We walked across Amsterdam just to visit Saint-Jean and it was possibly the best decision we've ever made.
Read moreVegan cruffins filled with vanilla and pumpkin, and rich and decadent chocolate babka? The vegan pastries I've had to date, and not deciding on the pistachio cruffin (thanks hubby 😏) was slightly remedied by the exquisitely balanced oat flat white.
One day, I'll be back.
Pros: Incredible vegan pastries and choice!, Incredible coffee, Friendly staff
Cons: A little far out of town, Gets busy!, Not too much seating

Cool and chill vibes, but the pistachio cruffin might be the best pastry I’ve ever tasted in my life. It really is that good, and definitely worth waiting in the queue if you have to (it gets busy at times).

Heavenly Baked Goods - Edit
I waited in the rain on March 12, 2023 to check out this place and it did not disappoint. Everything was so wonderful I forgot to take a photo of my goodies. The croissant was flaky, the pistachio filled croissant muffin was bursting with flavor, the cinnamon swirl pastry was yummy and the almond croissant still had an amazing flavor even eating it the next day.
Read moreOne thing I noticed about pastries in Amsterdam compared to what I have in the USA is they are not comatose sweet and I am here for it. Just the right amount of sweet that makes you feel OK if you have more than one.
Can't wait to get back to Amsterdam so I can have multiple visits to Saint-Jean.
