Not a cheap place to eat

We went on a Monday before going to the theatre, so around 6 pm. The food came very fast, around 20 minutes after we ordered, and was absolutely phenomenal!! Very, very good, and we really appreciated that we could just order things without having to triple check that it was really vegan.

However, we didn't order much - two curries, one serving of rice and a bottle of water, and the tab almost came to £30! For £7-£8 a curry, I would have expected more.

So while it is a great restaurant, don't come here expecting it to be cheap!

Pros: Clearly labelled vegan options, Fast service

Cons: Pricy

Really great vegetarian restaurant in Covent Garden

Took an Omni friend there and we both loved it. The best samosas and onion Bhaji I have ever had. Had Dosa's (lentil pancakes) and some Dahl's. The food was brilliant and the service is very good and friendly. Will go back soon

Pros: fully veg/vegan, great food, great loaction

Cons: none

Cheeky

And it was rather cheeky. I had a fantastic Indian. Staff were lovely and food was great. Thank you for having me. P.s. thank you for changing my table, that was nice of you, we'll be back probably again next week lol.

good food but incredibly noisy

Went here with some friends. The food and number of vegan options were great. If you want to try something spectacular, go for the paper dosa, which is so big that it won't fit the plate. Only downside was that when some large groups entered later in the evening it got incredibly noisy, to the level that it was not possible to hear the people next to you without screaming.

Cons: noisy

Great Indian Food

We went here over the weekend and were really amazed at the wide range of vegan food (a whole vegan menu!), having been used to cherry picking Indian food and asking for honey, dairy, ghee etc. in each dish. When the food arrived (in good time) it was delicious and spicy, very decent sized servings and friendly service meant that overall we really enjoyed our meal and would definitely come back next time we are in the area. Best Indian I have had in a long time!

Pros: Flavoursome dishes, Wide range of vegan options , Friendly staff

A whole vegan menu!

Had a lovely meal of masala dosa, sag aloo and brinjal bahjee. Great quality, swift service and friendly staff. Normal London prices but worth every penny.

Pros: Lots of Vegan choices , Great tasting food, Good central location

Delicious food but slow service

The food at Sagar is fantastic but the service is a bit slow and inattentive - having said that they are very busy.

The lentil doughnuts, uppatham, and saag aloo are personal highlights. It's a nice atmosphere in a busy part of town and their menu does a very high quality take on South Indian classics. It's just a bit pricey - you get similar food much cheaper at the Jai Krishna branches in North London, but the quality here and ambience is better. I personally prefer their Tottenham Court Road branch.

Pros: Taste, Ambience

Cons: Service, Price

Good food. Staff not so much.

Food was good. Nice selection, with the thali in particular very nice. Shame that we seemed an inconvenience to the staff. They were busy, but they let us know it - hurried and lacking courtesy.

Pros: Good food, selection

Cons: Poor staff. No accessible toilets.

My favorite in London

In 2009 it was the best. And to be honest the best vegetarian restaurant in my life. I wish I could visit it one day. Nostalgia

An OK veggie Indian place

One of the first Indian places I tried in London. They got an alright selection of Indian foods, with a separate vegan menu and a great lunch special deal. Although they still have issues understanding veganism. Some foods are the same in their regular menu and the vegan menu and even with specifying that you want the vegan version once ended with a bowl of yoghurt on my table and said if I do not want it, I can leave it... Not really the customer service I would have expected after stressing for each item to be vegan, showing them in the vegan menu.
Had customer service issues once also when going with a friend from India there and the waiter automatically started speaking in hindi without even considering that I do not understand. Literally was asking my friend what I had decided to order. Hello? I was right there?!

Food is a bit bland for my liking as even when I asked for a spicy dish to be spicy(-er), I got extra spicy sauce or something on the side once and it was still not spicy. So if you want proper Indian to tickle your tongue, might not be the best place. My standards for Indian have been set high from Aberdeen, so not reaching my favourites by a mile.

Pros: Separate vegan menu

Cons: Bland, no heat, Understanding issues with staff still present

Convenient location

Many times while ob vacation I have to walk extra far to find good vegan food but Sagar was right by Covent Garden. The restaurant was busy and made for a slighty hectic eating situation but the food was delicious and left me with a warm spicy feeling. They have a separate vegan menu and have had since 2001. The staff was very friendly and attentive even though they had many customers.

Great location, good food

Good south Indian food in a central location.
Ask for the vegan menu - lots of choice.  Great masala dosas. We also always pick the lemon rice (which comes with a small portion of dhal if you have the vegan option) and a curry.
Prices have gone up a little in recent years (but where haven't they), still good value given that they are in Covent Garden. Really handy for a pre-theatre meal or quick meal after work. Service is efficient.

Pros: Masala dosas, Central location, Efficient service

Cons: The only vegan dessert is sorbet

Variety of options but food only average

We love Indian food but were a little disappointed here. There was a good variety of options, and the staff were friendly but the food itself was only average. Won't be rushing back but wouldn't avoid either.

Pros: Variety of food

Cons: Average food

Mediocre, over-priced

Nice to have a full vege south indian restaurant, however have to admit the portion sizes was on the disappointing end. Food was mediocre, hit miss with some of the choices. Not worth the price in my opinion. Atmosphere was ok. Diverse menu.

Pros: Atmosphere, Good range of choices on menu

Cons: Price, Portion sizes

Disappointed by the service; food ok

To summarise, the food was good, tasty, but not particularly memorable. It wasn't interesting enough to make me want to return. But I was happy enough with my masala dosa that night.
But.... It was a busy evening in November but I entered after the theatre crowds had left for their shows. The staff were extremely rushed and abrupt with me. They spent only seconds with me getting my order, saying only the minimum of words, which seemed a bit like orders instead of questions. After my meal, the server took away the milk and sugar for my tea before I had used it and without asking if I was finished. So the communication wasn't very good.
Why were they so extremely rushed and frazzled?? Yes, it was a busy evening. But hey, it was November, not the height of tourist season, and it's not like it was the first month of their existence. They have been there for years. Were they understaffed because someone was sick or are they always abrupt like that? So I was disappointed by the communication and service. It was too bad, as I was really looking forward to eating there.
I really hope that they can make an effort to improve the service, as the place has great potential.

Good food, worst service

Let me start off with the positive side: I love South Indian food and was therefore looking forward to my visit at Sagar's. And Sagar provides good food indeed. I had a great Indian dish, very tasty and - as far as I can tell - authentic. Same holds true for all other dishes I have seen on neighbouring tables. Also, you can tell from the menu which dish is vegan and which isn't (all kinds of allergens are listed as well), that's truely commendable! Furthermore there is plenty of choice, plenty of dishes to choose from. On top of that everything is reasonably priced.
However, the service was the worst. At the very beginning, as I was about to enter, some customers were leaving while a waiter was holding the door open. I waited for the other people to go outside, but as I wanted to step in, the waiter saw me, let hold of the door and went away. WTF? Maybe I am not the kind of customer one doesn't want to enter ones premise, for whatever reason, I don't know. Be that as it may, I was treated poorly at any rate. Really bad service by all accounts: No please or thank you, grumpy behavior all the while (from all staff towards me). Furthermore I asked which beers were vegan. Response: "Aren't most beers vegan?". I seriously don't know what's wrong with them. Besides, usually I don't condemn unfriendly service. Suppose there is a low-paid waiter or waitress, that is bugged by stupid customers all day, who doesn't feel like being friendly - I get that totally, no reproach at all (as long as nobody spits into my order). But what happened at Sagar's was almost mean. Lastly, a service charge of 12,5% is applied
Wild horses couldn't drag me there again.

Disappointing food, fast service

First time to try here. The service was very fast, handy for a pre theatre meal.

However, I wished they had taken their time on the food. We had the Matter Panner and the Vegetable Kootu. Both were very liquidy and I felt they had watered down the sauces. There were minimal vegetable in the Kootu, the one potato again felt like it had been over boiled and was full of water. Neither of the sauces were abundant in flavour. The lentil doughnuts were a little better.

The food must have been very mass produced for the turn around time from order to delivery, less than 5 mins.

Pros: Fast service

Cons: Lacking in flavour, Watered down

Excelent food and service

I was extremely happy with my experience. There was a separate, completely vegan menu from which I asked for a waiters recomendation for both starter and main course. I like spices very much and got a real treat with some extra burn for me. With a big bottle of sparkling water + a dessert and tea, everything altogether was 23£. Very tasty food.

Good, cheap food

Extremely cheap for the location and I've had quite a few dishes from here and have enjoyed them all.
I think the plain pizza tastes like sizzler cheese bread, so that excited me a lot!

Pros: Delicious, Cheap , Great location

Cons: Customer service needs improvement
