Read moreCame first thing on opening at 8.30am as I had a bullet train to get.
The “egg” sandwich was legit so tasty and so much like egg- not the standard tofu n black salt kinda thing, but super delish!
I also got a strawberry sandwich which is filled with like a dairy tasting mock cream. A bit weird but tasty.
I also had a cinnamon n walnut bun which I asked for “to go” (to take on bullet train) which I thought she understood, but then came on a plate, which was fine, no biggie at all, except I was still hungry after the Sammie’s and cinnamon roll was all warm, so ate that too lol.
They only do black coffee I believe? Would’ve loved a soy flat white or latte!

Firstly, the staff were absolutely lovely - so friendly and perfectly spoken English. Food was very nice (especially the egg sandwich and fried 'chicken') and restaurant was clean and easy to find using the app. The only reason for not giving 5 stars was the price - £50/€60/$65 was a lot for the amount of food we got (2 drinks, 1 set menu, 2 'mains').

I had a lovely dinner here after a long day out in Nara. The staff are very friendly and the food was wonderful! I had the set meal which was good value if on the slightly pricy side, but the kurumafu and gimbap were delicious! There was a good amount of food though didn’t feel like it was too much. Would definitely come again next time I’m in town!

Everything tastes good, but aside from the egg sandwiches, nothing stood out as exceptional. The place itself is charming, with a lovely and peaceful atmosphere. The small setting adds a cozy touch, and everything looks beautiful. However, it is comparatively expensive for what you get.

Four of us had a wonderful meal together at Mercy’s. It is quite close to the main Kyoto station, and when you arrived, you enter going down some stairs into a bright cheerful space where you are welcomed by cheerful staff. There is a translation of the menu into English. Staff were very friendly and even though we arrived late into service were not made to feel rushed.
Read moreThe choice of food was varied, and we enjoyed a three course meal. We all started with miso soup, moving onto mains of sweet and sour fried cauliflower, chilli kurumafu, and shoujin curry. Our deserts were matcha pudding and walnut and cinnamon roll. If you’d like some theatre go for the butterfly pea tea. If comes out of the pot blue and when you add the slice of lemon turn purple. My son said it mainly tasted of lemon but was great fun! My husband and I both enjoyed our cauliflower main very much, served with a good amount of salad and we ordered a large rice to share with it.
The desserts, the matcha is not too strong a taste, and the caramel sauce on top makes a delicious set ‘milky’ pudding. The cinnamon in the bun was wonderfully strong, with the bun itself not being too sweet, just the icing to give us a touch of sugar.
We had a highly enjoyable evening and would definitely return if we were in Kyoto again. #Veganuary

This place is a hidden gem close to Stay Sakura hotel not far from Kyoto station. I was overjoyed to find a vegan restaurant where everything is 'safe' to eat which can be tricky in Japan. It's a simple menu with a few dishes done well. We enjoyed the mock egg sandwiches (indistinguishable from real egg), curry, sushi and vegan chocolate cake, iced coffee and fresh pineapple juice. A little on the pricey side for the portion sizes, but I believe this just reflects the cost of the quality vegan ingredients which may not be as easy to come by in Japan. Our server was lovely and friendly too. I would recommend this place to any vegetarians or vegans staying in the area!

We visited this cafe just arriving in Kyoto, it was lunch time and the lunch menu was available, we tried Japanese curry and rolls with vegetables, as well as soy meat. The rolls were quite simple, miso soup and various small snacks were served with them. I really liked the curry. Credit cards are accepted, the staff is very friendly.
