tasty and affordable! - Edit
i always enjoy my meals here! the udon soups are my go-to for the vegan option and they slap. very worth their price and super tasty and comforting. the spicy miso broth wasn’t too spicy (which my poor stomach is thankful for) but i didn’t want to stop eating it! the texture of udon noodles with the practically creamy umami broth was everything i needed on a chilly autumn evening!
Read morewe had a pretty early dinner and thus didn’t have to wait for a table - but the restaurant quickly filled up. the decorations of memorabilia from the japanese punk band Guitar Wolf and their music (amongst other punk bands) playing over the speakers really added to the atmosphere that is difficult to find in other parts of stockholm!
Pros: the vibes
Cons: wish there were more vegan options

Great vegan udon. - Edit
I ordered the vegan dashi curry udon noodles, and they were fantastic—creamy and delicious at a great price! I also tried the onigiri, but nothing remarkable about it.
Read moreThe restaurant gets really busy, so I recommend arriving early to avoid a long wait; I had to wait an hour for a seat!
Pros: Delicious udon, Fair price , Nice staff

I ordered the raayu tofu, which was very tasty and silky, a bit spicy, but ridiculously small!! Check the picture, was a tiny cube.

The mochi saved it... - Edit
Stopped by for a pre-theatre dinner tonight, so arrived before the evening crowds.
Read moreI liked the atmosphere of the place and the clear labeling of the dishes.
I had a rice bowl, which I thought was a little underwhelming in terms of taste and variety of ingredients. Perhaps I should have ordered the noodle soup.
There's a tiny tofu side dish, which is a little gem, both looks and taste-wise.
The mochi was a delightful end to the meal, hence 4 and not 3 stars.

Yummy ramen, 4/5 - Edit
Surprisingly good ramen. A little sweet and a little spicy. Udon noodles had a nice texture. The soya mince was better than I expected. I will re-visit!

I love this place! - Edit
Re-published review from quite a while ago. This place still holds, but is wildly popular nowadays.. so expect a long line.
Read moreMamaWolf is a charming little place that I think offers some of the best Japanese food in Stockholm.. surprisingly, to the background of punk music, which I do appreciate. In the summer I would have the cold soup, which they stopped serving, apparently due to scarce demand. Hopefully it’ll return to the menu once the temperature goes up. Also, the tofu with spicy topping as an add-on is not to be missed, yum!
I do agree with reviewer TSLK that portions are not exactly huge, perhaps they could offer XL versions? Either way, staff are friendly and accommodating, so who knows, maybe they’ll hear this humble little plea. And while they’re at it, why not make the okonomiyaki vegan as well?
The main objection I could have at this point, non-vegan food aside, is that the restaurant is tiny, something troublesome during a pandemic. As they are moving into a new and more spacious location (Krukmakargatan 1, just a short walk from their current one) in maybe two weeks, it seems like MamaWolf will finally be able to realise the potential they’ve had all along.

Good Ramen - Edit
We went here for lunch on a Saturday. There was indoor seating for about 35 people and no outdoor seating. It was full and we had to wait a couple of minutes before getting a table for two.
Read moreThe waiters and waitresses were all young, friendly and kind. They looked Japanese and spoke Japanese to each other and not all of them spoke Swedish. I liked it. There was some Japanese decoration on the walls. There was no music.
There were only a few vegan options. At least both the ramens could be made vegan with tofu. I liked that the vegan versions were cheaper than the non-vegan versions. I had the Spicy-ish Miso (145 SEK). It was very good; the broth especially was very yummy.
On our way out all the waiters and waitresses - about five of them - said "Tack så mycket" (thanks so much). I don't think I've ever heard that many "Tack så mycket" in such a short time in my life. Very friendly.
The service and the ramen were great, I just wish they had more vegan options.

Good tast - Edit
The noodle soup was good but I think it lack variation.
Read moreThe curry taste did not take over everything so that was nice. But it was literally only noodles. The tofu is what you see in the pics, two small slices and it was one small piece of mushroom in it. In the long haul it became pretty boring.

No Okonomiyaki but tasty Food regardless - Edit
It was a long time ago I went to Mama Wolf, back then they had Okonomiyaki still and their business was in another place.
Read moreMamma wolf is still cozy and the food feels authentic l. They have both vegetarian and vegan options. Sadly they don't serve Okonomiyaki anymore, which was their key dish before. Now they have a menu with Bowls, Udon Soup and Onigiri menu. I had the vegan bowl nr 1 with a side of a small tofu. Next time I will try their curry udon
Pros: Cozy, Sake bar
Cons: No okonomiyaki anymore

Tasty! - Edit
I’ve tried the vegan onigiri which is with miso sojafars(🍙), it was so good. Rice bowls didn’t have vegan options. Hence, I went with teri veggie which was with inari fried tofu, it was amazing but quantity was less in my opinion. On the whole, it’s a nice place to try some scrumptious Japanese food☺️

Bit disappointed - Edit
The food was nothing special unfortunately and I expected great things from all the reviews. Also, the mayo is not vegan which wasn’t very clear from the menu.

Really good food - Edit
One of my favourite places in the city but the menu has recently changed. It's not a huge change but it's enough to put me off returning quite as often. The fries, edamame and ramen are my husband's favourite

Vegan ramen - Edit
MamaWolf offers vegan ramen dishes that are clearly labeled on the menu. The restaurant is a bit small inside and you might sit close to some strangers. The food tasted delicious though and seemed a bit more unique and tastier than some other ramen places I've been to!

Felt authentic, good food - Edit
I was excited to try MamaWolf after having read the positive reviews. My company and I showed up at 7:15 pm on a Friday and as you can't book in advance, we added our name on the waiting list. Expected waiting time was an hour but we managed to get a table after approximately 35 mins. Place was buzzing and lots of people continued to show up, eager to dine there.
Read moreThe interior is fun with a nice mural on the wall in the front room and a cosy little nook to the left of the entrance. They also have extra tables in a back room which also looked nice. Lots of love for the Japanese rock band Guitar Wolf which was a fun detail. No music being played from what I could hear, ambience was lively although not overpowering.
They had today's specials listed on the menu which, from what I recall, consisted of a choice of four mains of which two could be veganized. I opted for the rice bowl Teri Veggie 1 with tofu as I was rather hungry, with a side of edamame. I felt satisfied with the portion size. It tasted good and the tofu resembled that of which is usually included in vegan sushi which is very sweet. I think the yuzu mayo would have elevated the dish, I hope they can veganize it. Keen to try the noodle dish next time! And their drink list looked interesting too with lots of sake options as well as cocktails.

Authentic Japanese food - Edit
The new location is bigger then the old place and I think that they have done a good job with the decoration of the walls. I had the spicy miso udon soup with the side dish Raayu tofu (chili sauce on tofu) and it was very tasty. I also like that they have many fun drinks that I will test in the future. Overall a cosy authentic Japanese place with great food.
Read moreThe portions are a bit smaller, but that is normal in Japan and I still felt satisfied after my meal.
