Exquisite vegan meals in Ferrara - Edit
Sept.2025: even this third time, two years later, the food was delicious but unfortunately one meal is not enough to taste all. In fact, in the new location, nowin the centre of the town. the variety has enourmously improved. August 2023: nice, simply and homely venue, not far from the railway station or centre. Two typical " primi piatti" of Emilian tradition, many yummy main dishes and various sweets.

La Vegana is absolutely brilliant. The food is delicious - a mix of Italian classics, traditional dishes from Ferrara and the wider area (but veganised!), and some creative ideas too.
Read moreIt's amazing to think that this place has been going since 2012, and it really shows. This is surely the only way you can get certain Ferrara specialties vegan, and they've been adapted perfectly.
We went here to meet two relatives of mine, and organising across languages presented a problem - the woman who runs the cafe was amazingly helpful both before and during.
I honestly cannot recommend this place enough. One of the best places I've ever been! Deserves 6 stars if it was possible 🤩

Tutto buonissimo. Abbiamo assaggiato un po' di tutto . I primi molto saporiti e i secondi altrettanto buoni. Il locale è comodo, in centro vicino a Palazzo Diamanti quindi ideale dopo aver visitato la mostra. Anche i prezzi sono economici. La titolare carinissima. Ritorneremo.

A real surprise, definitely go there! - Edit
There were two of us traveling to Ferrara for work, we found this place with the "Happy Cow" app and it was a very pleasant surprise. Small place, family friendly welcome, also does takeout, the owner is super nice and very hospitable. Informal, in a very positive way. Really great food, everything delicious. We ate for two: first course, second course, side dish, dessert, water and beer with less than 40 euros, excellent value for money. I recommend it even to non-vegans, because they will be surprised. We will definitely come back.

Abbiamo mangiato - con sommo godimento - pasta fresca con due ripieni diversi: una peperoni e lenticchie e l'altra tofu e pancetta (ovviamente veg).

Nous avons été très bien accueilli. Le local n'est pas très grand, ça a le mérite d'exister. En voyage en Italie depuis presque 10 jours ça fait du bien de bien manger, ça doit bien être mes premiers ravioli fait maison. La sauce servi était très bonne aussi. Cela change de la pizza ou des plats de spaghettis.

Abbiamo provato i cappelletti al seitan, i cappellacci alla zucca e due varietà di polpette. Tutto ottimo, e la proprietaria è gentilissima e cordiale. Speriamo di tornare presto, prima di lasciare l’Emilia.

Read moreLocation is small and simple and in a quiet neighborhood just outside the center city. There is a rotating menu as well as some regular items in the case.
We came back three times because we loved it there so much. We could feel the love and goodness in the food. For example, the ravioli It appeared simple, with no sauce and no garnish, on a small simple plate, and yet... We enjoyed it more than any other we have ever had. We still feel happiness from it weeks later.
And the "Vegamisu" for dessert... ❤️🥳🎉🎉🎉
The new owner is an absolute delight. She made a big career change to take over this restaurant in July and she has done wonderfully. She is also an artist and we hope she displays some of her work someday! 🌈

All is vegan, mostly organic and delicious; best place in the area, IMO. In this small magic shop dishes are fresh and handmade; this is probably why I never found such lasagne, roasted seitan, tiramisu etc. ever elsewhere!
Also a place for vegan publications.
The girl running the shop speaks English and is eager to provide any tourist info!
I'd only like this place had tables and seats and I wish it was closer to the centre, but getting there is just a 15 minutes stroll after all.

This is a nice, small bistro with a very friendly vegan owner. We had 2 different pasta dishes, one filled with saitan, the other with pumpkin. It came with vegan cheese. We had a carrot & fennel salad as a side dish. Then we had saitan bits with vegetables and potatoes. All very nice. About 10 minutes from the centre, in a quiter, residential area. Nice!

I really enjoyed lunch in this super cute little restaurant. They have a lot to choose from. The pasta is homemade and they just try to make vegan Italian classics in vegan. So you can get a lot of vegan cheese to try. Super friendly staff. Definitely would come again!

As there was no vegan food at our camping place in Comacchio or even around the city we drove all the way to La Vegana in Ferrara and it was so worth it!
Read moreWe were welcomed so friendly as the owner is vegan herself and knows the struggle of finding a place to eat in this region.
We had a very nice and interesting chat with her and she gave us some tips like where to park in the city center of Ferrara and helped us pay a parking ticket.
The food was very delicious and beautifully prepared and served. Nearly everything there is homemade! We had the vegan cheeseburger, a cauliflower side dish and one of the traditional pasta filled with pumpkin and topped with cheese. Especially the taste of the vegan cheese was amazing!
We tried a traditional dish (like little “meat” balls out of Seitan) and the tiramisu as well, which tasted like directly out of heaven!
We would highly recommend this place and hope to have the possibility to come by again soon!
