Deep Dish pizza - Edit
This was my first deep dish pizza experience, and if you're really into that sort of thing this could be a great option. A huge pro of this place is that it is open till late hours unlike many of the other restaurants in Chicago which close at 9 or whatever. I would not recommend trying to eat an entire deep dish pizza by yourself. You could definitely share one— even the smaller size— among two people. I also liked the vibe of the place, and it was considerate and self-aware of them to setup all this weird [censored] in their restaurant for you to peruse because they too know their waiting times are long.
Read moreI will say though that the service was underwhelming. I was happy to order at the bar, etc, but the guy didn't even offer me any water or get me a plate for my pizza but did this for everyone else. Odd.

A mostly amazing punk dive with awesome food. - Edit
Got the buffalo cauliflower wings and the traditional deepdish. Heavy on the sauce, but I enjoyed it. Of note, the pepperoni on this pie was an entire continuous layer; I've never seen a deep dish pizza like this. Over all, its a very fun spot. I appreciated the jarring purple lights and The Stooges being played blaringly loud, but the vibe here definitely won't be for everyone.

Loved that I got to try vegan deep dish from an all-vegan spot. It was huge and really good. The popcorn tofu with buffalo sauce was also fantastic.

Deep dish - Edit
This place is more like 3 1/2 stars for me but not because of the food. Been here a few times over the last decade and the vibe is slightly off. I really don’t enjoy the lighting and the place always has some sort of weird smell. If you haven’t had deep dish before it’s worth coming here to try. The buffalo cauliflower wings are pretty sick too.

great quirky dive bar environment with an incredibly welcoming and friendly staff; music courtesy of an actual vinyl record player (!!!), which led me to discover folk musician Jim Croce. i HIGHLY RECOMMEND the spinach artichoke dip—it’s gooey and delicious and the pita slices come perfectly toasted. the deep dish pizza was also a great authentic chicago experience and the cheezecake is A MUST!!

Deep dish pizza - Edit
We heard about the deep dish pizza being a signature dish from Chicago, thus wanted to try it. We are both fans of classical thin pizza and don't eat fast food, which might be a factor. Can't day anything about the service, we had the pizza delivered and it was not really worth the price or the hype. It is basically a pizza pie with a lot of tomato sauce and surprisingly little cheese. We tried the traditional version which also has pepperoni and sausage but the taste is drowned by the pizza sauce. Anyway, I don't want to say the restaurant is bad, maybe this kind of pizza is not to our taste and the salad I had was really good.

Delicious food, quirky atmosphere but nice - Edit
First, i will say im not vegan but am trying to eat more plantbased meals. I ordered the bbq sandwich and a gyro to go. I asked for it to be cut in half. Loved how they put each half in a separate box and also separated the French fries in each box. Perfect for sharing my food with my son who was taking a dance class with Chicago Tap Theatre down the street!! Also ordered the Oatmeal cookie with cream sandwich. All was delicious. My only wish was that there were more onions on the gyro and that the ranch sauce had dill and cucumbers which is what I'm use to when I eat a regular gyro. The dessert was rich and good. Richer than the Little Debbie oatmeal cream sandwiches. Very tasty!!
Read moreWaitor nicely suggested I order a sandwich as that would be the shortest Wait time (@15 minutes). Movie played on TV in restaurant which helped pass the time. Interesting quirky pictures drawn on the walls. I liked looking at their plants in the windows too. This was my 1st time using Happy Cow app. Food was nearly $50. More than I had expected to pay. But I wanted to experience an all vegan restaurant.

Great opportunity to try the deep dish pizza as a vegan tourist but I would not eat the deep dish pizza again as it is not my thing, the waitress was super friendly and cake was great!

It was fun to try a vegan deep dish. The sauce was really good. The cheese could have been better. The wait was really long for the food. I ordered takeout and the waiter forgot about me. It's a cool ambiance, kinda loud though

Long wait, Mid food, Expensive - Edit
We ordered the Traditional and the Plant-Eater deep dish pizzas. It took 45 minutes until the food was served. The crust on both pizzas was extremely tough, and took a lot of effort to bite and chew. The Traditional had almost no flavor beyond the taste of marinara and the crust. It was boring and not worth the effort to chew. The Plant-Eater was better, as the vegetables added flavor, but it was still annoying to chew through the crust. Not worth $25 per pizza, not worth the wait.

Great menu options and food was good. The portions were way too big though and I wasn’t able to get the steak sandwich without sauce or peppers. It was good but spicy. A lot of menu was spicy and I can’t eat spicy. Apparently men’s bathroom was very gross.

Don't order plain! Pizza and Dessert is to die for, worth the $$ - Edit
I first tried this pizza, a plain cheese slice, at a vegan event and wasn't really impressed. It was flavorless, needlessly thick, and insanely pricey for what it was. Tried again at another event, a plain deep dish this time and again was disappointed for the lack of flavor. Like no salt or seasonings?
Read moreThis time I decided to try this place for takeout, spared no expense and got a cheeseburger pizza with a cookie crust mega mud pie. AMAZING. In this context the thick crust was working and the toppings (vegan beef, sauce, pickles) made the pizza so flavorful and filling. It was huge and loaded. It was saucey, rich, and tangy. It was like eating the largest big mac ever, lasted me 3 days.
The mud pie was soft, decadent, melt-in-your-mouth, and oober chocolatey. It reminded me of Hershey sundae pies that are standard in non-vegan fast food places.
My only recommendation is to not order the pizza plain, the standalone cheese and sauce lacks flavor and just isn't worth it for the price point. Spend the extra $$ and load up on toppings.
Pros: Delicious Food , HUGE portions
Cons: Expensive, Plain pizza base lacks flavor

Fun interesting bar - Edit
I really liked that this place seems almost like a Halloween dive bar haha. I really liked the spinach dip, the texture was really creamy. The pizza was also so good but insanely filling. I would be nice to come with a bigger group. They also have some games to play while you wait. If you want a Chicago deep dish vegan pizza, I would definitely recommend this place. I also think the staff did a great job at checking in with us. My friend’s drink was too spicy so the bartender fixed it for her because he saw her reaction to her drinking it.

Just okay - Edit
I was kind of let down. I was expecting more. The sauce was good. I asked for the deep-dish pizza to be cooked well done. I had read reviews of it being undercooked. The toppings didn’t have much flavor. It took a long time to get my food and the wait staff wasn’t very attentive.

Mediocre pizza, too expensive - Edit
I loved the atmosphere but the pizza was really not worth the price. And the pepperoni they use is soggy. Drinks are good tho, and so were the fries

Cool vegan spot with retro vibes. The pizza 🍕 was cool. I love the fact that everything is 100% vegan. We played connect four while we waited for our pizza. Great menu with lots of choices.

Bar food - Edit
Over-rated definitely. We’ve had a lot of really good vegan food over the years, mostly on the West coast and Europe, so it’s hard to impress us. The pizza was definitely NOT worth it. We got the traditional, following reviews of previous people and it still wasn’t that great. The only thing we liked about the place was the buffalo cauliflower wings and the Mac and cheese. The desserts were mushy and the cheesecake tasted like vegan gelatin. It was a loud atmosphere but we expected that and it didn’t bother us. I wouldn’t waste your time going here if you’re looking for good Chicago vegan pizza.

Good but pricey - Edit
I'd never had deep dish pizza before going vegan so I knew I had to try some while in Chicago. Kitchen 17 didn't disappoint! I got the cheeseburger deep dish and it was quite an experience. I loved the first slice and by the end of the second my body was like "never again!" This wasn't because anything was wrong with the pizza but I should've gone with a more traditional choice of toppings - I just don't love the combo of so much marinara and cheeseburger toppings when I'm not ravenously hungry. I think if the smallest deep dish size was like 6-8 inches rather than 12 I would've been totally fine with it. But for $30 odd dollars... Well, I wouldn't recommend the cheeseburger deep dish specifically.
Read moreMy friend got a pan pizza with spinach artichoke dip and tomatoes and she LOVED it. We each had cocktails and they were really good. It's maybe not the world's best sangria as they call it, but it was definitely good sangria. I also got two different cheesecakes and some fudge to go for dessert. The cheesecakes were both enormous and spectacular. The fudge was grainy and not very good, but I've yet to have vegan fudge from anywhere other than Lagusta's in New York that wasn't grainy.
The music was fairly loud, but my friend and I could still hear each other just fine. Staff was friendly if a bit difficult to locate at times. We were there on a Wednesday night so it wasn't super busy.
