Tasty and well presented dishes - Edit
This was a really nice restaurant. The menu is varied and they clearly put a lot of effort into the presentation. We had the three-course lunch and each dish was thoroughly enjoyable.

3.5 stars: used to be better - Edit
I used to love this place, but the food has become less tasty in the last ~3 years. E.g. their kapsalon, pancakes and shakshuka have become less good. On the other hand, their pastries are usually tasty: I really enjoyed their cheesecakes, pumpkin cake and lemon/poppyseed cake.

Had a very nice dinner at Gys. The food was great and you can see it’s good quality. There are a number of small plates and a few main ones. Just be aware that it’s on the pricier end of things and there’s not a massive selection of mains (which is also good as they make things fresh).

Gisteren gegeten bij Gys, Voorstraat 77 in Utrecht. Een hele fijne zaak. De locatie is in het centrum van Utrecht, 15 minuten lopen vanaf het station. De zaak heeft een fijne sfeer, het personeel is attent en vriendelijk. Ik voelde me er direct helemaal thuis, ook omdat ze dezelfde normen en waarden t.a.v. voedsel hebben als ik; zoveel mogelijk plantaardig en lokaal. Mijn vriendin eet glutenvrij. Zij kon dus alles eten, hoefde nergens over na te denken. Ik vond de kwaliteit van de gerechten heel goed en de prijs schappelijk. Echt een aanrader dus!

Heerlijk 6 kerstdiner gehad op kerstavond met veel variatie en groenten uit het seizoen. Gezellige sfeer en zeer vriendelijke bediening. Bijpassende alcohol vrije cocktails en drankjes maakte het feest compleet.

We hebben hier heerlijk en gezellig gedineerd. We hadden de knolselderij en de cougetinni. Voor een volledige maaltijd is het aan te raden de patatjes erbij te doen of gewoon lekker voor een toetje te gaan.

Is it worth it? - Edit
First off, the vibe at Gys is wonderful. It's very bright and cozy and the service was exceptional. It did get quite loud at times, but that can happen anywhere.
Read moreThe food options all looked lovely and I like the way they choose one Veggie as the centrepiece for the meal. We ended up having the Satay and were very happy with our choice.
However, I must say this place was well out of our typical price range, everything they have is very expensive and even though the food was good, it wasn't exceptional, nor was it a particularly big portion. Leaving us wondering whether it was worth it.
Definitely did enjoy our time there and had a lovely evening. But I personally wouldn't go there again.

Geweldig als altijd - Edit
Zoals altijd, op beide locaties, een aanrader en dat is wat ik dan ook graag doe: aanraden. Het maakt niet uit wat je bestelt, alles is geweldig en opvallend vind ik dat er altijd smaken zijn die ik niet of nauwelijks ken. Het ziet er ook nog eens fantastisch uit.

Had lunch here with a friend. Food was nice but portions are really large (could not finish) and flavours are on the safe side. Staff is friendly, location easy to find but lacking the x-factor as far as decoration and furniture goes. I found the number of lunch options too little for a city centre restaurant.

The venue is great, tables a little bit too close to each other (hearing the other conversations from guest next to you is not was not really what I wished for when going out for dinner).

We had the table next to the door and curtain. We asked for another table. And saw guest seated there moving to other tables as well. The curtain can be improved with magnets, or there could be a wooden board(roomdivider) placed next to the table. But i would rather suggest taking out this table and still place a wooden roomdivider there.

Delicious spot for lunch - Edit
A vegan, a vegetarian and a meat eater go to lunch at Gys… not the beginning of a joke, it was my luch today. We got two snack to share and lunch. Everyone was happy. The staff was friendly. We managed without a reservation for lunch on Saturday cause we sat outside. If you want in, make a reservation. I would love to go back to try their dinner.
