Convenient location for a quick meal

I was searching for a place for lunch in Central Melbourne and saw the signboard for this restaurant. I ordered a preserved veg and fresh mushroom noodles. For $12.80 the serving size was quite big, taste was ok. The dumplings were quite disappointing. The skin was thick and fillings was bland.
I also ordered the "special" fried rice, recommended by the staff. Bland, tasteless and the only ingredients were some peas and a few pieces of mock ham. Poor quality for the price.
If you were craving vegetarian Chinese food, it is probably an OK place to head to. Otherwise with the many vegan options in town, I wouldn't visit this place again.

Pros: Quite a number of vegan options, Convenient location

Cons: Expensive and meals were not value for money.

Ran into this wonderful place while strolling for dinner in Melbourne. Impeccable food, quick service and clean restaurant. I had sweet n sour pork and fried rice with moss and pine nuts. Would highly recommend this place.

Simple and satisfying

The menu here is diverse enough that most people should find something to please. The flavors were subtle but pleasant, and the veggies not overcooked. Attentive table service.

Very Good!

Very good! Pan fried dumplings were so yummy and the sizzling “beef” was amazing to curb the meat cravings I’ve been unfortunately having lately! Will definitely come back.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Tastes like “real meat” dishes, Nice restaurant

Traditional Chinese Food

This place is great! They have lots and lots to choose from. In my opinion this is definitely in the top Chinese style restaurants in Melbourne for Vegans. Well worth a visit.

Turn away, find somewhere else

Aweful. We got the, crispy goose , abalone, tofu dumplings and the vegetable steamed dumplings.

All aweful. Flavors were bland and the textures we're horrible.. this type of vegan food is what puts new vegans off

Great if you like sweet Chinese food

20 years ago i would probably have given it 4 stars, i would have been stoked with the fake meat, and stoked to find a vegetarian chinese restaurant. Now that Melbourne as developed into one of the vegan hotspots of the world, i expect more. Flavour, for example. Creativity would be nice. Unfortunately the food is so sweet its hard to taste anything else. The fake meat imitations of classic fake chinese dishes such as lemon chicken and sweet and sour pork are pretty lame. The dumplings are frozen.

Average

As a long-time vegan, I’ve eaten in many Asian veg restaurants and this one, though conveniently located, offers just run of the mill fare. Staff appeared disinterested (you know when you’re given the impression you’re a bother just having come to spend money in their establishment?) and the food was okay but average. There are likely more rewarding veg haunts to discover in Melbourne. Portions were generous but pricey.

Yummy food

The vegetarian “pork” sweet sour was really yummy. Went there with meat eaters and they were surprised of the texture and taste. Cozy atmosphere, a bit hidden location.

WINE ISNT VEGAN OR VEGETARIAN

It has geletine in it and the staff told us it is vegan with no proof (checked all websites for all wine and none vegan)

False advertising

Excellent vegan restaurant

We stumbled across this restaurant by chance and we were very impressed by the large range of chinese vegan food offerings. They seem to have expanded as the restaurant now occupies both the 3rd floor and the 1st floor in the same building. The same meals are offered on both floors, with the 1st floor being a somehwat simpler set-up. It appears to be fully vegan nowadays.

Pros: Large selection of different meals, Value for money, Copious meal sizes

don't bother if you're vegan

We went for lunch yesterday (having eaten here years ago on our last visit).

There is no vegan labelling and when we asked what was vegan, the lady hurriedly rushed through the menu pointing out about 5/6 veg sides and fried rice. She said none of the mock meat was vegan.....SO, i personally wouldn't trust what it says on here.
Plus it seemed really expensive compared to other vegan places.

Gopals is close by and thoroughly recommend there instead as they do a 'vegan platter' with drink/dessert for $12 which is a bargain and staff know what they're doing!

Cons: untrustworthy, inconsistent vegan info

Good vegan lunch spot

We stopped here for lunch and all enjoyed our meal. I had the wonton noodle soup. This was yummy, though I was hoping it would have had more vegetables in it. The wontons themselves were great. I'll have to choose a dish with more vegetables next time. My friends enjoyed their mock meat dishes.

I live in Mooroolbark but it is well worth the drive.

Pros: Staff are very friendly, Really quick service

Cons: Move to the eastern suburbs!!

Really Tasty Veg. Chinese Restaurant

I've found myself in Melbourne on business and stumbled upon this gem right in the heart of the City. I've eaten in veg. Chinese restaurants all over the world and I can't recall one I've found as pleasant as this one. Thus far I've had 4 meals here. Each one seemed better than the last. The balance of salt, oil and flavor is just about right.

amazing food

This is my favourite fake meat option restaurant anywhere.
Their sweet and sour pork is amazing and the goose is to die for, like eat so much you die of fullness.

I take my meat eating friends here and they love it because the flavours and consistency are similar and better.
It has helped me turn those friends from meat eating to plant based diets.

Thanks Gong de Lin!

Great food

I came here on a recent visit to Melbourne and was very happy with the food. The restaurant was fully booked when I got there (I hadn't called ahead) so they offered me a little table in the corner along with a free soup. I had the beef and black bean with rice and it was very tasty but a little oily. The sweet corn soup was great. I really enjoyed coming here and would recommend it.

Pros: location , good food, nice staff

Cons: can be oily

Impressively changed my perception

Made our second visit recently after a not-so-impressive dining about 2 years ago. Our rating for this place has totally changed to the better. Plenty of choices, lot's to try. Nicely cooked. Not the usual Chinese cooking (Malaysian / HK/ Singaporean); it's a different taste. Highly recommended.
