Great Chinese restaurant - Edit
It's a very nice restaurant where you can try vegan versions of so many weird things, like sea cucumbers or shark fin soup.

Delicious All-vegan Food!!! - Edit
I was lucky enough to get taken to Gong De Lin on my birthday and WOW it was amazing!!
Read moreThe service was good, the menu was huge with lots of options both vegetable dishes and mock meat dishes.
We opted for the ‘hot and spicy chick’n’ dish, salt n pepper ‘squid’ and the duck pancakes. All were absolutely amazing. I would definitely go again and highly recommend.

Disappointing - Edit
We ordered fried rice and pan fried dumplings both tasted awful and we couldn’t finish our meal. The staff were nice, the food came out quick but I really wouldn’t recommend.

Very tasty - Edit
It takes a while to find this place because you have to go up the lift, but when you find it, it's a lovely small restaurant with diffetent types of seating. The menu is extensive and it's fairly priced for what you get. I got the wonton noodle soup as per a friend's recommendation and it was really nice and flavorful but the broth was a bit lacklustre. Very good place to come to for a cheaper filling meal!

Fabulous Asian tastes - Edit
The entirely vegan Gong De Lin offers a mega range of menu choices with a lot of faux meats, including lemon chicken and giant prawns. The seaweed and pinenut rice is tasty and salty and makes a great alternative to their fine fried rice. The range of entrees is also wide, like the broad beans with 'ham' and the usual spring rolls and dumplings, but they pride themselves on offering dishes different from the usual vegan Chinese fare. This is a great place for a special meal, but it gets busy after 6pm and a booking for this time is probably a good idea. When it comes time to pay they sometimes ask if you can pay cash, but they take card.

Cons: They try to get you to pay cash, Gets busy and crowded after 6pm

Hold the press! They do vegan fried ice cream now!
Read moreAnd now back to my previous review...
Such a wide range of dishes to chose from. I have been visiting for years and I think the quality has actually improved.
I recommend the sweet and sour pork, and hot and sour noodle soup. But the dumplings are lovely and the sizzling dishes are exciting.
Service is generally good, although variable. Prices are good and it's in such a convenient location in the CBD.

Hidden gem - Edit
Part of the fun of eating here is the little elevator ride up to the restaurant, makes it feel like you've discovered somewhere secret to eat! Then you are delighted with a massive all vegan menu, if you are indecisive you may have to order several things, but if you can't finish you're meal, staff will provide you with take away containers, all you need to do is ask! One of my favourite places to eat in the CBD!

Not so special - Edit
I don't understand why everyone is so excited about this place.. I went to Gong De Lin several times and tried different dishes but it just isn't that good. Too sweet and too oily. It's not bad but there are better asian vegan restaurants in town😄

Hidden Gem! - Edit
I work across the road and never noticed it until today, you have to take a lift up from Swanston. Menu is massive and 100% vegan, very exciting, eating the Ma Pao Tufu and rice, very spicy, perfect. Service was really friendly and fast, maybe I’m here in a good day as opposed to the other reviewers.

Mean service - Edit
I love the food here, and I've been coming for years, even though it is a bit pricey. But the service is really weird/rude. Since day one of dinning, staff seemed to carry an air of disinterest. I always try to be friendly, but the two main staff just seem so cold. It's quite unusual! I hate eating here alone.

Pretty good - but go to the bar upstairs - Edit
The mock meats are all variations on a slab of flavoured protein. The veggies, dumplings, and sauces are delicious though. Go up to Goldilocks bar upstairs - they serve cocktails and some of the dishes from the kitchen.

Reliably good food - Edit
A regular choice for vegan food in Melbourne CBD. Extensive menu with almost everything vegan.
