Asian Spanish fusion food worth every penny!

Flax & Kale was on top of my 'restaurants to visit while in Barcelona' -list, and I'm so glad it didn't disappoint me! It was a difficult choice between the three locations but I chose the Flax & Kale at Passage because of their Asian Fusion kitchen.

I was having lunch by myself but I never felt 'alone' - the staff was kind and open to answer all my questions on their food (philosophy). After a long debate how many things I can taste (eating-alone-problems!), I ordered the ‘BBQ pulled pork’ bao & Korean chef lost in the Pyrenées (suggestion from the waiter). The bao had a great balance of soft and crunchy textures, and the 'bbq pulled pork' made from jackfruit was one of the best ones I have had. The second dish, Korean chef lost in the Pyrenées, really was the reason why I came to eat at Flax & Kale in the first place - that dish was an intriguing combination of Korean & Spanish cuisines! I almost doubted myself whether I ordered a fully vegan dish because the 'bacon' made from young coconut had such a chevy & fatty texture.

For me, the whole experience was definitely worth the money! Their food is perfect for sharing, and that was the only downside of my visit; I wish I could have shared this experience with my bf!

Pros: Creative cuisine, Worth every penny, Perfect for sharing

Save your money

I've been 3 times. First one with friends and we weren't like because the vegetal milk they prepare themselves was sour. It can happen but it was the first impression. Anyway, we come back again and the girl in the reception was rude, unfriendly and not very good professional. In fact we decide to quit because of her before taking a table.
The third time I went with a friend who wanted to try. We sat to have a smoothie and it wasn't good enough. For this price, I prefer to go to other places.

Pros: Very nice place

Cons: Service, Price, Products

Great vegan breakfast options

We had avocado toast and it was very good. Then we tried some sweet options (like cinemon roll and raw chocolate) which were all delicious. They offer a varity of plant based milk.

Pros: a lot of vegan options , great for breakfast and cake

Fancy food options - too expensive

Mostly vegetarian gluten free restaurant with fish and allergens clearly labelled. Located in a chic industrial/loft style place with open kitchen. The food was very tasty, could have been a little spicier in some cases and the portions a bit bigger for the price. Finally the cake tasted a little too "healthy" for me personally. Really friendly staff!

Pros: fancy menus, home made smoothies

Cons: expensive, small portions

not great for vegans

The pizzas were quite small and the GF bases had an unusual taste (the only option is the gluten free bases) the smoothies were good. The thing which I wasnt happy about was the drinks menu the hot drinks prices come as standard with cows milk and you must pay extra for any plant based alternative. Even soya milk was €.50 extra!

Pros: Good smoothies

Cons: Expensive and not a vegan ethos

Amazing Food

80% vegan 20% pescatarian menu with everything clearly marked on the menu. There are raw vegan options available. Desserts were also really good. Really lovely restaurant and staff. Would have rated 5 stars but unable to do so as it is not fully veggie and vegan.

New Flax & Kale

The latest addition to the F&K family, the Passage location has an entirely different menu with a clear international inspiration. Many vegetarian and vegan options are offered, although fish is also served. There is a dedicated menu for gluten-free pizzas, a kombucha laboratory and a fully vegan dessert menu. Worth a try, although the prices and the decor are, in my opinion, not the most welcoming! Service is however very friendly.
