Delicious shoujin ryouri

The food at this restaurant was excellent. Everything tasted different and the presentation was to notch. You could feel the love and work put into preparing every little piece of the meal.
There were a lot of different dishes in the meal aswell, so it was actually pretty filling.
The staff were extremely friendly and the location is just really good.

Pros: Tasty, Great variety

Traditional tofu cuisine at Seiryo-ji, Arashiyama

Location : next to Seiryo ji temple, on the right of the temple, inside the temple gate. There’s a menu sign and banner outside the entrance.

The restaurant serves fresh, delicately flavored tofu and yuba dishes
(broiled, chilled, in a bubbling broth , tempura style) accompanied by pickles , rice, green tea, mochi, and an exquisite sesame tofu.

Service is quick and friendly and there is an English menu. You order each item à la carte (there’s no vegetarian set) but the menu specified that butter or eggs in sautés or tempura batter can be eliminated on request. Generous selection and portions—a real feast of traditional cuisine made vegan without bonito broth or seasoning.

This is a popular spot, so stop by and reserve your seats when you arrive at Seiryo ji. It was well worth the cost (approximately $35 per person).

Pros: Fresh , Vegan options , On temple grounds
