Fantastic - Edit
All of the excellent reviews are no joke! Non-vegans took my husband and I here (visiting from out of town) as a celebratory dinner and everything was so, so good. I would go back for the asparagus alone!

Flavorless food - Edit
Our order included the crepe, Aztec salad, spaghetti with bolognese sauce, and carnitas tacos. Unfortunately, every single dish was remarkably bland and completely lacked seasoning and salt. To make matters worse, the service was inattentive; the waitress never even bothered to ask if we were enjoying our meal. Based on the disappointing food and poor service, I would definitely not recommend or return to this restaurant.

Ordered the wrong thing? - Edit
Maybe I chose a weak entree, but I was underwhelmed with the seitan sandwich. Also didn’t love the fries dripping tons of grease.

The vegan icon of New York! - Edit
Was excited to try this place as I think was one of the first vegan restaurants in New York! I also have their holiday cookbook.
Read moreI had the seitan Cuban sandwich with side salad. Great texture on the seitan and was served with a spicy sauce.
Side salad had no dressing or seasoning, so not very appetising to eat.
Enjoyed it but was a little underwhelmed given how iconic this place is. Perhaps need to return to try something from the dinner menu.

Always delicious 🤤 - Edit
Love the food here, it’s always good, delicious and fast. Used to be my fav vegan spot when it was uptown. Right near my Mom’s always visit when I’m in town, soups, desserts and specials. The polenta fries are delicious 🤤

Yummy! - Edit
We had a very good salad- Grilled Kale plus a side of salmon added was great! We also had the seitan dumplings, they were good, but not the best dumplings I’ve ever had. The dessert was delicious! Choc-PB Bliss lived up to the name! Good portions, but very expensive. Restaurant is cute, staff was friendly and helpful!

first and last visit - Edit
the two dishes i tried ('Wild Mushroom Crepe' and 'Drunken Noodle' from the NamasThai menu) tasted like something you'd put together from whatever you have in the fridge for a quick dinner, not something i'd expect to be served in a restaurant. granted, i would not be making a crepe, but nor did it seem like its contents had been purposely matched to the crepe itself. the noodles were badly overfried - all broken down into 1 inch pieces. the rest was fine.

Perfect lunch! - Edit
I started with the beet salad which was so fresh. I got the daily special, sweet potato latkes, which had exceptional flavors, it came with the smoothest apple sauce and creamy almond cheese. Everything was outstanding. The ginger tea was perfectly spicy.

Yahoo! Over the moon that Candle Cafe has been reincarnated! The food and selection are as delicious and creative as ever. The service is friendly, warm and attentive. They know how to make fabulous vegan food that is truly tasty and healthy simultaneously.

Spectacular! - Edit
I loved Candle Cafe and Candle 79 back in the day, and this Candle follows the tradition of veggie-forward, perfectly seasoned vegan food. The artichoke appetizer, Moroccan spiced chickpea cakes, cauliflower pizza, and pumpkin pie (on special) were all delectable, as was the Pinot Grigio I tried!

Amazing Farm-to-Table, Organic, Vegan! - Edit
The reviews and back story for this farm-to-table, organic, vegan restaurant were compelling, so we had to see for ourselves.
Read moreChef/Owner Jorge Pineda was warm and open to share about his food and story. He and his partner (Angel Ramos) have been cooking good & healthy plant-based food for over 25 years — WAY before it was popular.
One of the things I loved is that they are not trying to make plant-based as an animal substitute — this is good, wholesome vegan fare, and REALLY delicious!!
You can see what we ordered in my photos — all excellent. But the Parmesan Crispy Artichokes were outstanding — food that hugs you! The layers of flavors in this dish made me speechless. If we weren’t in public, you *know* we’d be licking the plate!!
My GF loved her Wild Mushroom Crepe. “The medley of flavors, among the nutty tempeh, wild mushrooms & chickpeas blended wonderfully.” (Chickpea crepe)
We will try the dumplings steamed next time — even though the fried was nice & crispy, we think the softer may be better.
The (medium) heat on the Breadcrumb Cauliflower was nicely balanced with the amazing almond-lemon ‘cheese’ & crunch of the coating. The micro greens topping was a perfect ‘bow-on-top’ 😉
Though quite sated, we got oat milk lattes & the Live Blueberry Pie. The coffee was excellent (with cocoa notes?!). I have to remember that I’m not a fan of raw dessert (unless it’s fruit) or almond flour — it’s a texture thing. But it was beautifully constructed, and the flavors were good. Date Ice Cream is interesting. Felt like maple would been a better sweetener … for me. 🤷🏻♂️
We will definitely be back — much more to taste!
Only negative was the hefty tab, but not really if you consider this is NYC and it’s fresh, ORGANIC, beautiful food. Happy to pay it.
Pros: Everything , Staff was outstanding , Organic, fresh, healthy
Cons: Price (but really, it’s fair)

Piccata - Edit
This is only the second time I've had a piccata (this one was seitan) since going vegan a decade ago. The food came out a bit quicker than I would have expected, but it was fantastic and came with delicious mashed potatoes. I was bummed that I forgot about dessert because the dessert menu looked amazing. They also had a great variety of non-alcoholic drinks.

…and a pleasant reminder (not that it was needed) of our one visit to the incredible Candle 79, years ago.
Read moreOn this recent visit at Brunch hour, we enjoyed roasted lemon Brussels sprouts and some items from Candle’s Mothers Day special menu: Truffle Risotto with King [I think!] Oyster mushroom “scallops,” asparagus and peas; Brunch Bowl with tofu eggs and tempeh bacon; Chocolate Peanut Butter Bliss(!); Rhubarb in phyllo dough…
Pros: Intimate setting, out-of-the-way in a good way., Delicious starter, entrees, special desserts.

Honestly the food is AMAZING! AMAZING !!!!! BUT ...... The environment is not the best. It's tight, too serious, the food isn't the fastest and it is pricey. but I will say the food is worth it. I would just love the ambiance to change. Then it would be perfect. Absolutely perfect!
