Fantastic - Edit
All of the excellent reviews are no joke! Non-vegans took my husband and I here (visiting from out of town) as a celebratory dinner and everything was so, so good. I would go back for the asparagus alone!

Great Food & Service, Meh Atmosphere - Edit
We missed Candle so much after it closed, and finally made it to the "new" incarnation. The food was just as good, healthy and packed full of flavor. So many options, it was hard to choose. The only thing not as great as the old place was the atmosphere. It could use some "warming up." Also, no wine list, but you can go across the street and buy a bottle to have with dinner.

Wonderful Vegan Food NYC! - Edit
Nice atmosphere, food was some of the best we have had in NYC! I had the spaghetti bolognese and it was AMAZING. Wife had the seitan Marsala and the flavors were perfect. Consistency of their seitan is great, nice clean flavor profiles. We finished off with carrot cake that was light, moist and very delicious but not overly sweet. Currently it is BYOB, and we didn’t know that so we skipped wine at dinner. We are going back to give brunch a try.

Welcome back, Candle - Edit
A tasty and filling prix fixe menu for Thanksgiving. I had the beet salad, mushroom ravioli, seitan and sweet potato pie. The seitan was a little too chewy and the pie crust a tad cold and not flaky. I still yearn for the old Candle, but I’ll be back.

First Time at "New" Candle - Edit
After seeing a magnificent flamenco presentation at Repertorio Español, I couldn't pass up the chance to try out the "new" Candle just around the corner. I'm very happy to see that Candle has returned. While they don't have a lot on their menu that's oil-free, my server, Martin, was very accommodating and had the kitchen alter their Wild Mushroom Salad (steamed mushrooms and fresh lemon instead of dressing.) I also opted to get a baked potato on the side, as well as peppermint tea for "dessert."
Read moreEating out has certainly proven to be more challenging since I've adopted a whole food, oil-free, and sugar-free vegan diet, after being a "foodie" Vegan since 2007. Nevertheless, I think that the more upscale Vegan establishments have kitchens that are certainly more health conscious and willing to accommodate more discriminating Vegans. Candle is certainly one of them.
Pros: Excellent Service, Healthier options available on request, Beautiful atmosphere

Excellent seitan - Edit
We tried the lobster ravioli and seitan skewers as appetizers and the grilled kale salad and seitan piccata as entrees. It was a lot of food! I’m not much a ravioli fan but my partner really liked it. We both enjoyed the chimichurri skewers. This was probably our favorite dish. The seitan was tender and juicy and the roasted tomatoes and chimichurri sauce were a great combination. The grilled kale salad was fantastic! Loved the lemony dressing and it had a balance of crunchiness from the sunflower seeds and a slight kick from the red onion. The seitan piccata was our least favorite. The seitan itself was well done but the lemon caper sauce was not as flavorful as we expected. Overall it was good experience, but since we’re only in town for short visits at a time, I’m not sure if we will return with so many other tasty options in the area that are more worth the price.

So happy they're back! - Edit
Went out of my way to stop here for lunch today because I haven't been since they reopened. They did not disappoint. If you've never eaten at Candle, their house made seitan is their specialty. Get the skewers, cajun seitan sandwich, seitan piccata or a burrito with seitan. Can't wait to go back!

Our go-to is back! - Edit
After all this time, it had to be the seitan piccata, but everyone enjoyed everything. The mushroom crepe got raves, as did the Caesar salad. I also enjoyed the seitan dumplings, which were served with broccoli.

Easy, comfy, quick, delicious, plus value. - Edit
Candle is back! And it is excellent all around. The new location is a cafe, reservations not needed, the service is quick and the prices, for NYC certainly, are very good. It's also BYOB which keeps costs down if you fancy a glass or beer. Best of all, the food. I had the jackfruit taco which was mega value for $6 and the mushroom crepe which was packed solid, really solid, proper calorie count, and had a wonderful beet salad on the side. My partner had a paella and was happy with that too. A lot of dishes can be made gf, and I appreciated the chef asking my opinion on the way out. I subsequently grasped that's probably one of the owners, so if they're reading this, I am so glad you are back on the scene. Your only downside is it's not upscale enough to make a night out of it!

Pinch me!!! - Edit
Words can hardly express my excitement on learning that the Candle Team is back. My first visit turned that excitement into joy! The food is as excellent, creative and vegetable-based as ever. The menu is a blend of the prior 3 restaurants and many of my favorites appeared, including the Market Plate where one can assemble a custom, ultra-healthy meal.

Welcome back! - Edit
Over the course of close to three decades, I have been to Candle Cafe (all three venues, plus its precursor) around 100 times with friends and family (or by myself), and it has always been a favorite. I am happy to see it back in business--the dishes we had today were all delicious. The atmosphere of this new venue seems closest to that of the old Candle Cafe West (which was our favorite of the old Candles).

Wow!!! - Edit
We were blown away by the experience. The cafe is run by the former chefs of the highly acclaimed Candle 79 and Candle Cafe, and it truly shows in the quality of the food and service.
Read moreThe ambiance of the cafe is warm and inviting, with a modern yet cozy feel. The menu is diverse, from delicious vegan lunch options to gourmet dinner salads and entrees. The Grilled Artichokes for an appetizer was fabulous. The standout entree dishes were the SEITAN PICATTA, which was off the chart with flavor, and the WILD MUSHROOM CREPE that was packed with a very nice balance of flavor and texture.
The service was top-notch, with the staff being knowledgeable about the menu and providing excellent recommendations.
Five stars PLUS all around!!!!

They’re back!!! - Edit
I was crushed when Candle 79, Candle Cafe West and Candle Cafe closed because of the pandemic. But now they’re back in this new location in Gramercy! The menu is exquisite, their desserts are to die for, and the entire staff, especially Chef and owner Jorge, are absolutely fantastic. This has always been and always will be the highest quality of vegan food in Manhattan. Everything is so fresh and made with such care. Can’t wait to go back again and again!!
